If I notice I will correct. Sometimes I see a sentence that had I not been typing it at work I would have thought I was drunk. :(
I just did it on one of my answers! I noticed that I did not have correct agreement between the noun and the verb (thanks to a modifier phrase with its own noun). Eek . . . those issues bug me with my kids LOL.
Does anyone else do this? Sorry I just ended my sentence with a preposition. :P
Oh Tamela . . . your "spellers of the world" comment literally made me LOL.
Holy cow Heather P. - why DID I call "this" a preposition? Duh . . . I am really off today. :P
If I notice I will correct. Sometimes I see a sentence that had I not been typing it at work I would have thought I was drunk. :(
Yes! I just re-read one of my answers from when I was typing on my cell phone in the doctor's office waiting to be seen - and said YIKES!!!
I do re-read my questions and if I have an error - I fix it. If it totally changes the post? I put ETA - especially if I have answers already - I don't want people who read replies before they answer to say "huh??"
Yes, every SINGLE time, I go back and fix it. Don't want ya'll to think I don't KNOW I've screwed it up!
:)
I gave this up with the early onset of menapause. Now I can't spell and if I get interrupted, can't punctuate either.
I go for the complete sentence most days.
But I get ya...
Sending good thoughts your way.
PS Bad spellers of the world, UNTIE!! ;)
I'm still thinking about hampsters! LOL
Most of the time, but not ALL of the time.
I do it all the time. Sad that I can't see the mistakes on a first time read through. Sorry, Jim. You are correct. I mean 'all the time' in a figurative sense. I am sure I still miss some :)
I try to check my spelling. I have gone back to posts and "fixed" them so that I had the proper word for knew not new. But then that is a subject that can go on for days on here.
When I went to school (in the covered wagon) they had you diagram a sentence on the chalkboard in front of the class. We each had to do it and were corrected by our peers. Grammar was a big thing back then and so were tenses.
Off my soapbox. To answer your question, yes I do check.
The other S.
I do it all the time, correct my typos.
(Where did you end your sentence with a preposition, or was that a joke?)
I was that one kid in school who got off on diagramming sentences. I enjoyed grammar in two languages and participated in spelling bees. Yep, I'm a nerd. Sometimes I'll intentionally leave a typo, just to prove to myself that I can.
i should. my freakin autocorrect kills my written english.
Always. Literally, always.
I think we are all just emotionally responding, and errors are made. :) I do go back and change it. The other day I went back 3 times. Grrr. Today, I responded with "I thing..." instead of "I think..." and I just left it. I figure people realize what I'm really saying and that it's just a typo.
Now, I'm paranoid! Thanks! :)
I proof read my posts before I send and find do mistakes, usually typos. (One hand types faster than the other and my brain cant keep up with either) I correct them, but sometimes find another mistake later while reading again. I usually leave it if its been a few hours or days. I figure the damage is done and its water under the bridge. I am no where near perfect but gosh I wish more posters would proof read and correct. Grammer isnt something I understand real well, unless its double negitives. More so I hate when the wrong word is used, (to too two... then and than..which, witch, pitcher, picture...weather whether)... or its obvious the person has no idea what the real word should be. example, on Craigslist recently someone was asking for a "quart" of wood. They said it 3 times in the post so it was not a typo. They actually wanted someone to give them a quart of wood to burn in the winter. I was pleased to see a few corrected them and pointed out it is called a " cord" of wood.. Also it isnt "rot" or "rod" iron,, its wrought iron. lol Ok let me proof read and find my mistakes. Counted and corrected 6 typos. Any more? (o:
Am I the only one that doesn't know what "modifier phrase with it's own noun" or "preposition" is?
Yes, if I notice that I have messed up then I go back and change it.
L.
DAMMIT!! See I got called out on my it's instead of its. Geesh.
I do it all the time... I've found many typos and errors I have made.
I have seen some misspellings and paragraphs that are 1 long run on sentence that must be done on purpose just to irk the people who like to read something clearly.
Yes. If it get a red-lined word (indicating it is misspelled) and I cannot get it right, I put it in a word document and use spell check.
Tamela--LOL!
I do a lot of rereading!
LOL I was also going to tell you that "this" is not a preposition but Heather P beat me to it.
I correct my grammar and spelling all the time here. I usually can see the errors more clearly after I hit "post."
Yep I do too. This stupid phone decideds to go ahead and put words in for me so ill be typing away, hit post then look and great!! Typos all over the place :(
Yes, all the time. Another thing I tend to do is hit post before I really finished then I go back in and edit but end up with the "new" statement in the middle of the old and then it doesn't make sense. So I have to go back in and edit again!
I must look like an idiot all the time.
Yes, I do that. It would drive me crazy not to correct an error.
Yes, but sometimes I don 't and later see mistakes in spelling that are due to typing, etc. It drives me crazy when I see it too late.
I try to correct my post but if it's going to post as an edit and be superlong than "know," er, no.
In general and unfortunately, I think the instant gratification of txting and e-mail has made us careless on grammar. I sure do hope the schools still teach it :-)
All the time! I try to use the spell check on Google toolbar and do a quick read through before hitting post but there are times when things get past me.
I am very often nursing and typing one handed or it takes me forever to type something up because my kids constantly need something or the cat walks across my computer so post gets hit too soon.
I always feel guilty when I go back to fix something after I've gotten a couple flowers which means people saw my mistakes before I could fix them LOL
I usually read it once at least. Make sure Im telling people, what Im really asking. I cant believe someone wrote back saying i used the wrong tense of a word. I put an 'ed' on something I think and missed it. She 'felt bad for saying but...' and Im thinking "umm, no I think it made you feel good. "
Yes I have. I also use Word to and do spell check if I am not sure. :)
I do it all the time, usually with typos.
I had to correct one of my responses 3 times the other day, although it was for spelling bot for grammar. But, yes, I would totally do that.
