My 8 year old and I always dance around and sing to "loves me like a rock" by Paul Simon and "little boxes" by Malvina Reynolds"....we have done this since she was 2.
My 2 year old and I dance around and sing together to "White wedding" Billy Idol and "Surrender" by cheap trick
we (of course) sing and dance to other stuff, but these particular songs seem to inspire boogy-ing, What are yours?
OK I'm dating myself here.
My favorite song is Elvis' Can't Help Falling in Love. So when it ever comes on, which is next to never, I stop whatever I am doing and dance with the closest one next to me. I've even danced with the dog and the cat.
My kids call it M.'s song.

Lots of boogying goes on at our house, but my boys and I prefer trad rock, ACDC TNT. Classic.
Also for something different, Talking Heads lately.
Oh yeah, Angela reminded me, my boys insist on having the same lullaby every night. I just cannot get out of it. It is the most beautiful lullaby though, called 'Carra Barra Wirra Canna', an Australian lullaby.

He REALLY likes the song from the end of "Cars 2" with Robbie Williams and Brad Paisley. We always sing it in the car together and he REALLY hates it when I change the words.

Sugarland's "Stuck Like Glue" is our "family song" according to my six year old. Other than that, the girls and I listen to Justin Bieber or all the Glee soundtracks, they also like old Michael Jackson, much to my delight! My little one loves Cascada's "evacuate the dancefloor"! And my little one is obsessed with the wedding march too, since she's a flower girl in my friend's wedding next year.

"Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins
"Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti
"Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple (When our daughter was about 20 months old she gave an impromtu serenade to a group of businessmen in the lobby of the Minneapolis Raddison. She was a hit!)
This is an eensy-weensy list. Our family loves music of any kind and family dance parties are par for the course around here!

The original song is kind of a downer, but my mom used to sing the first two verses when we were kids. She still does on my birthday, and when she knows I'm really down.
It's my children's favorite song.

2 sons, age 15 & 24. Daughter deceased -18 years now.
Our song has been "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd for all of these years. I cried the 1st couple of times my older son played it on his guitar. He learned it for me...& then played it for Mothers Day that first year for my Mom & Sis. He was ?14-15? when he learned it.
The words are exactly what I want for my sons. Fav line:
"forget your lust, for the rich man's gold
all that you need, is in your soul
& you can do this, oh baby, if you try
all that I want for you my son,
is to be satisfied".
Well, actually, every line is my fav...... good question, thanks!
My husband and mil danced to "she loves me like a rock" at our wedding for the mother/son dance. It was adorable. :)
I always sing "You'll be in my heart" from the Tarzan soundtrack to my girls. It was my two year olds first song learned. It came to me during her first days, the begining of a colicy four months, becuase the first line is "Come stop your crying, it'll be alright" Now at 2 1/2 she sings it to me. We have changed a few of the words to make it fit us more. She went crazy a couple of weeks ago when we watched Tarzan for the first time and our song was in it. :)
We also LOVE the "wishes" song, which is what they do the Magic Kingdom firewords to at Disney every night. I love that since she was about 18 months old she will close her eyes when the lyrics say so. :) Melts my heart every time.
I don't really have a song with my 5 month old. Big sis and I sing Tarzan to her, but a special one for just her hasn't come to us yet.
Fun question!

I sing Baby Love to my daughter, but just the chorus, and when I get to the end, I sing "I do not know the other words". Now she sings with me and always sings the same ending. I think it's cute so I never bothered to learn anymore words.

I wouldn't say that we "have" "a" song... my husband has never been much into "kiddie" music, even when they were babies and toddlers. In fact, he is vehemently against suffering through any of it. So our kids were brought up listening to whatever WE were listening to, usually in the car, and my husband basically doesn't listen to the radio at all... all CD's and not just a track here or there, but the entire CD.
So my kids (at 3 yrs old) would get excited to hear Great Big Sea and would start belting out "Mary Mack's mother's making Mary Mack marry me!"
And then there was "Spit on a Stranger" and "When in Rome" by Nickel Creek. They loved "Baby did a Bad Bad Thing" by Chris Isaak. And "Coyote" by Mark Knopfler... they called it "The Roadrunner song" lol.
Just this morning, my daughter was on her laptop waiting for her online class to begin, and was joking about the music her teacher had playing... she had some elaborate joke she was going to make to the teacher that included/merged into the lines from a Crowded House song that ended with having a bite of her Vegi-Mite Sandwich.... LOL
When we are driving and the radio happens to come on to a "Police" song, my kids whisper: "Everybody be cool..it's the po po"...
They are a riot. We don't dance, though.

I thought you meant a lullaby when I read the title. LOL I used to sing "Baby Mine" from Dumbo to my kids when they were little. I swear it will still put them in a trance! =)
My kids and I (even tho they are teens) will dance around to almost anything.
