J.S.
I wore leggings in highschool and college in the early 90's. My rule is, if I'm old enough for it to be BACK in style, and I wore it the first time, I should probably skip it the second. :)
Leggings are not for me.
For the life of me, I cannot find leggings that make me feel appropriate enough to wear a shorter shirt with. I just thought it was a rule that if you are wearing leggings it needs to be with a longer shirt to cover up your booty and your whohaw. But, I have been seeing women wear them casually with a shorter shirt and it looks fine, not too revealing or anything. I picked up a couple pairs that looked pretty thick and thought that you wouldnt be able to see my underwear in them or my buttcrack, but when I brought them home, I put them on with one of those long and lean shirts that go down pretty far but didnt completely cover the stuff and I still felt like I was naked and it was inappropriate. I would love to be able to wear them with a casual shirt and my casual boots, but I just cant make it work! My husband even questioned the inappropriateness of it. Like, "Hey you're kinda naked". I dont know, what am I doing wrong?
Awww thanks Ladies!! I guess I DO need a complex! Im going to stick with wearing them under long sweaters or dresses. Hehe, this is funny!
Omg I am cracking up!!! LOL Lady bits!

I only like them with long shirts or sweater dresses. With a short shirt, I think it looks inappropriate and under-done on anyone! I don't want to see Jane's camel toe...
NOOOO!!!!! See "Leggings Are Not Pants" blogs nation wide: It does not look OK. Except to those who are doing it. Your mentalleggingcalculator is half broken in that you think it looks OK on others (it doesn't) but you think it does not look OK on you (good call!)
It is a preposterous trend. I have seen the youngest, slimmest, cutest, richest, upscale, girls/women in the BEST boots with the best tops and purses and sunglasses sporting nothing but leggings for pants...pulling it off as well as it can be pulled off...and ewww. No. They look like they need to put on pants. So anyway, even if you get the thickest, best leggings ever, lots of people out there will be thinking you should put on pants. It's one of those trends (like hoochie skirts and daisy dukes) that even though people wear it, it doesn't mean they should be outside. When that trend started, I caught my husband double-take a girl with no pants. At first I thought he thought I didn't see him, so I was going to be miffed, but he turned to me incredulously and said, "That girls has no pants!"
:)
There is no excuse not to find some fabric in the form of a tunic top or skirt to cover your lady bits. Unless you are actively in a yoga class.
LOL LOL LOL
Molly, while I'm sure you would be adorable, frankly, I think there are some women out there that NEED the complex you've got!
Holy Cow Molly, you are a major Hottie! If YOU can't wear them NO ONE can!
If you want to send around a petition to have them outlawed (for anyone over the age of 7), I'll surely sign it!
:)
I don't and won't wear leggings without covering up my ample assets. They are too skin tight and I'm just too curvy/sexy and mature to go around in them and I'm grateful I'm too smoking hot for them.
In the city I work in there are women and almost women in them and you can see right through them. You wouldn't think they were see through but when the light hits them there is all your business for the world to see. LOL
Most women I inform them that I can see through seem appreciative. I'm just grateful it is winter and that helps to cover a multitude of sins.
I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I just think this particular look leaves nothing to the imagination. People can tell all of your curves straight through this illusion of covering which is why you feel the way you do. Leggings are an illusion no imagination required.
I know it's the style right now, but I think it's awful, like wearing tights and nothing else. Very few women have the body to pull it off, either. Yuck.
I'm with Jess... I wore legging the FIRST time around. Not happening the second!
Of course, this go 'round, I also don't have the body for it (shhhhh). And I just have a private snicker at 'skinny jeans'. Again. Did that one in the 80's. Before spandex & lycra were in jeans. When you had to lay flat on your bed and use specially designated pliers (my dad HATED we girls kept stealing his pliers "Those girlls! Hey! You lot! Stay out of my tool box unless you're FIXING something!"). Anything less than pliers in my own mind is just cheating.
I have a complex about them...I just don't think they are flattering for anyone...I don't like them, period! In my mind they are not pants, and therefore unless a long shirt or skirt is over them. Well that's a lie...even then I can't stand them on myself or others.
My other complex is that there should be a size limit...and for those who might bash me I am plus size so I can say it...bigger ladies need not buy!
Please don't!!! I saw a tiny woman in Olive Garden wearing leggings and a shorter shirt - it revealed way too much!! You might as well walk around in a bikini bottom - it actually covers more.
Ditto to What Theresa said!
If YOU can't wear them, I'd better stop! LOL!
I wear leggings in the winter with my dresses under my tights, with my boots. Leggings are only "pants" if you are under 21! There are thicker ones you can find but they are hard to find.
They look cute that way on toddlers (boy and girl) but for adults - under sweater dresses or tunics.
I think leggings are great for little girls. or older girls with a skirt over them. I think wearing them as pants with a short shirt is not ok. for any age. but sigh....... I guess I am old. Leggings remind me of disco spandex pants and what the guys used to call camel toe? so no leggings for grown ups here
Jeggings are a good in between. They are the best of leggings but they have pockets like jeans. And most people can't tell that they're leggings. That's what I suggest
love the leggings. yes you do feel like you are not wearing enough but if nothing is showing that is fine with me. i wear them with shorter or longer sweaters, sweatshirts, shirts you name it.
