I'm thinking about trying a DIY carpet tile project in my home office. Has anyone done this by themselves? If so, how hard was it? My DH isn't real handy, but I'm pretty good with home improvement projects (I'm probably better at it than my DH). I would have to remove old carpet by tearing it into strips and bagging it. My biggest concern is the cutting of the tiles around corners, etc.

I did it...it was easy...I even got three colors and laid out a pattern. I just pushed all the cuts to the two most un-noticeable walls and even then it was fine.
Go for it!!
You cut them from the backside, all you need is a good framing square to keep the lines straight and the ability to remember you are cutting the mirror image.
So far as removing carpet, gloves, you will cut the heck out of your hands otherwise.
I did this in a bedroom. Luckily I only use it for napping daycare kids cause there is NOTHING cushioning the carpet, no padding at all, so it's like you're walking on the plywood. Cutting the corners wasn't super hard, some heavy duty box cutters did the trick. The tiles also shift sometimes, but they do have things that you can get to keep that from happening by basically using stickers on the backs of them. Removing the old carpet wasn't hard, most places you have to cut it into 3 ft sections that you then roll and duct tape in order for the garbage man. You also have to use pliers to pull up the tack strips and staples.
These are pretty easy to install, just have patience to do the corners. If you have some scissors that can cut almost anything (they sell them at Home Depot or Lowes) you could cut them that way. I usually use a utility knife for stuff like that.
When you take out the old carpet cut it into strips and tape it (its easier to carry that way), and bag the padding to throw away. The worst part is removing the tack strips along the edges of the room.
Make sure there is no dust or left over tacks before installing your new carpet tiles.
