Mamas & Papas-

I started giving a lot of context and backstory, but then thought, really, what's it matter. My question, short and sweet, is, do you have any tips on how to teach a little boy to wipe effectively. Our DS is three, in full day preschool 9-3 and the school cannot offer any assistance in that regard.

He sometimes takes too much paper, other times not quite enough. He sometimes goes through the motions of wiping, but doesn't get deep enough to get to the business end. Other times, he wipes too aggressively.

All I have in my bag of tricks is to say- brown brown tan tan white stop.

I am open to all tips and suggestions.
TIA-
F. B.

Have him use wet wipes to wipe until he gets better at using just toilet paper. He can throw it away in the garbage then wash his hands.

Yup, wet wipes.

The cheapest ones I find are sold in the incontinence section of Walmart. They come in 3-packs. If you just look in the toilet paper aisle, they only have the more expensive brands.

Wet ones are so helpful for this.

When he's older, if he doesn't wipe properly, his butt is going to itch and hurt. Then you'll tell him why. You'll have to put petroleum jelly or Desitin on his behind, and he will think twice before not cleaning.

However, at 3 years old, he's not there yet. Try the wipies til he gets better. Make sure they're the flushable kind.
