Diet and exercise can help almost any disease. I highly recommend the book Mother Nurture. It covers a lot of common illness mom's get from being run down. I also recommend seeing a naturopathic doctor. I was having chronic infections and while I took the antibiotics I also went to a naturopath to get to the root of the problem. You have to be diligent and find out what works for you. Good luck.

I have hypothyroid too as well and I am a healthy weight and exercise frequently ( I jog 4 miles a day at least). It hasn't helped the condition at all. I still have really low energy, get cold easily, and though I eat healthy and exercise frequently I am still at the upper end of my BMI. If it wasn't for the medication I probably would be very overweight and too tired to do anything. Before I was on levoxyl I was falling asleep standing up even though I was doing yoga and eating healthy. While you may be able to adjust your weight, because the healthier your body is, the less work any medication has to do, you probably won't be able to stop taking it completely. I am thankful medicine exists so I can go out and do things without feeling exhausted.

Hi T.,
My name is M. Wyatt and I am an Independent Reliv Distributor. Reliv is a food science company that focuses on soy based nutritional supplements. I know a lot of people that have seen great results with Thyroid issues and been able to cut back on medication. It is a nutritional supplement so we can not make any specific claims, but I can tell you from personal experience they are life changing. I have been on them for 8 years and my entire family takes them and have seen results. I would love to tell you more about them and see if you are interested. I am not a pushy person by any means, I just like to let people know about Reliv since it is not advertised. All of our products come with a money back guarantee. If you would like to learn more you can call me at ###-###-####. It is a cell phone, I live in Virginia Beach.

Hi T.,
I have hypothyroidism too and as far as I know, there are no dietary supplements/foods that can replace the missing TSH hormones. There is an 'organic' thyroid hormone on the market (but not popular with the docs)called Armour, I think. It's pig thyroid hormone. My aunt takes it with her synthroid to get better control of her symptoms. Losing weight, if you need to, is always a good thing but I doubt it will allow you to get off the meds. It's not a big deal to a daily pill and there are no side effects to worry about. No worries! At least the medicine exists to help us. I'm thankful every day for it!

Dear T.,
I too have thyroid disease, and thyroid issues are not like elevated cholesterol or diabetes that can be controlled or maintained through diet - at least not to my knowledge.
However, loosing weight can help with the dosage of synthroid you need to take.
After my diagnosis of Hyperthyroidism, Graves disease, I did the Radioactive Iodine treatment which left my thyroid 'useless' and I was put on Synthroid too. I gained an enormous amount of weight while we tried to get my levels under control... it was a long process.(several years!) Once I made up my mind to loose weight, (I lost 40+ lbs) I was able to lower my dosage of synthroid & feel soooooo much better. Apparently, weight can play a major role on how much of the synthetic thyroid hormone your body needs. Here's how I did it. GIVE UP ALL SOFT DRINKS! regular and Diet, and replace them with ICE water. Take a brisk walk for 15 mins each day.
You will see results in a short time, which will help keep you motivated.
Good luck and have a very Merry Christmas!!!
S.
