Hello;)
I have never done this before so I though I would ask for some help.
I would like to start eating better and loose weight in the process.
Anyone know of a diet that is effective?
Thanks in advance

I have heard that Take Shape for Life is very effective to take and keep the weight off. Send me a message if you would like a contact person's name.
i have been doing Weight Watchers and am very pleased with the result. I have lost 10 pounds in about 3 months so I am getting results, but still get to enjoy an occasional treat.
You can manage your program on-line or by attending meetings. Meetings are generally more effective because you have accountability, but if you lack time, then the on-line program does work.
I agree with the Weight Watchers suggestions! It truly helps you learn how to eat and it's more of a lifestyle change than it is a diet. My husband actually just did it (although he was afraid it was actually a diet for women until he found "Weight Watchers for Men Online" ha ha ha) He lost 20 pounds and truly knows how to eat to keep it off.
weight watchers has always worked for my mom!
Hey there,
I would not follow a specific diet plan. Those are hard to keep and unrealistic. How about you start with one thing: Breakfast!
I eat a bowl of oat meal with freshly cut fruit (banana, apple, berries - whatever you like) every morning. Get cereal that is pure - not the type with sugar and flavor added, simply oats, maybe with nuts in them.
You gain a lot just by doing that. It is so healthy, tastes great, and gives you energy. Stick with that for a little while, and then cut out something else you do that isn't healthy.
I always ate well, but I love a piece of cake too, or chocolate. Don't worry about enjoying those foods here and there too.
It has taken me one year but I am down 27 pounds! This is what I did:
I am not a big morning eater, but I know if I am going to exercise in the am I needed to eat. So I have either a Trio nut bar, a Luna bar, something around 175 - 220 calories before I work out. Then lunch is my big meal of the day. My fav is a can of tuna (packed in water) mixed with 3 tablespoons of hummus, (you can use a little light mayo if you don't like hummus, just keep it at a minimum) over a green salad. Raw veggies for snack and a small dinner. Portion control is key, although I allow myself unlimited veggies plus two servings of fruit a day. I like to cook simple healthy meals, always have, but I found as years went by I was serving me as much as I would my 6'4" hubby! So whatever I give him now, I give me less than 1/2. The best diet is balanced - lean proteins, fresh veggies, limited healthy starches etc....keep your calories to just under what your body requires. (This has to do with your lean mass). Slow loss is sustainable, quick fixes are not and will only lead to re-gain! Fad diets are the worst. Don't buy into them.
Any diet you stick to will work---but how many of them are doable for the rest of your life so you can maintain? If you look at it like a diet to lose weight, you will probably lose it and most likely gain again. You just need to take small steps to change your lifestyle. Don't deprive yourself completely, or it will make you want it even more--everything in moderation. Eat lots of veggies, lean proteins, whole grain carbs, whole fruits, low-fat dairy. Exercise a minimum of 30 min/day (use high intensity interval training). I've read it's about 70% diet and 30% exercise. (Think how easy it is to eat 200 calories, but how long it takes to work off those same calories!) Don't try fad or crash diets. Just be sensible and take your time! Good luck!
I am not a person who really diets, but when I try and lose weight, which I'm doing now, I just eat smaller portions and eat smarter and healthier. I also squeeze in any exercise I can get. But, I will still eat what I enjoy (fried foods), I just won't indulge.
To log my food and understand my calories, I signed up for the free www.loseit.com, which helps you watch your calories. Good luck.
I would suggest you check out sparkpeople.com
It's all about healthy living/eating with lots of tools, articles, etc.
Good luck!
My husband wrote up a way to eat better and lose weight accounting for me just sitting there. That's what I do at work. I sit. For 9 hours! Anyways, here is my "diet":
Breakfast: (around 8am)
a turkey burger, english muffin, piece of cheese, hard boiled egg, peach
Snack: (around 10am)
granola bar and a slim fast (snacks will not be needed later)
Lunch: (around noon)
Pita, piece of chicken or turkey burger, slice of cheese, small salad (could put in the pita), hard boiled egg
Snack: (3pm)
veggies, granola bar, or some nuts
Dinner
We have allergy kids, so we eat what they can. It tends to be pretty healthy anyways. Something like meat (chicken, pork, beef) and potatoes or noodles and a veggie.
I hope this helps. It worked for me and I do nothing. I expect it would work better the more active a person is. I also don't like yogurt and some other popular diet foods, so this accounts for that. I've heard, and it's worked, that putting protein in your diet in the right places makes a tremendous difference. And, eat breakfast. PS eating better also changed my cycle. It's lighter and more regular (tmi, i'm sorry).
Good luck to you!
If you want to start exercising I would suggest the Insanity workout and follow their eating regimen, I currently do it and have seen the results and it's great.. It's like p90x but cardio based. Goodluck
Hi A.,
A healthy diet has lean protein, whole grains, and lots of fruits and vegetables. Eat 5-7 small meals throughout the day, so you're never starving. Lean proteins are: chicken breast, fish, seafood, tofu, beans, natural peanut butter, low fat cheese, etc. Whole grains are breads with the first ingredient with the word "whole", whole grain crackers (like Triscuits), brown rice.
In each of the 5 -7 meals, you want to have a lean protein, whole grain, and fruit/vegetable. For lunch & dinner, half your plate should be a vegetable, 1/4 of your plate a lean protein, 1/4 of your plate a vegetable.
This is just a basic guideline along with exercise that I used to stay healthy, and lose weight.
Go to www.sparkpeople.com. It's totally free (always and forever). They take you through the basics of everything and make it really easy. They help you set achievable fitness goals, provide a super easy to use food-tracker, and even give you exercise help. And the exercises have videos that go along with them so you can see how they're supposed to be done.
It's a fantastic website. I highly recommend it.
Weight Watchers. It's a sensible diet. You learn the right portions, the right food choices, how to fit in exercise (for instance, things like vacuuming count) and how not to deprive yourself. Nothing is off-limits, so you don't have to give up favorite foods. You just learn how to fit them in a balanced diet. No promises of radical immediate weight loss, just slow, steady weight loss.
I lost 20 lbs. with WW last year and can't say enough good things about their program.
Hi A., 5.5 years ago I was looking for something that would help me eat better and lose weight. My girlfriend introduced me to this www.SoYouWantToCleanse.com. WOW! I released 42 pounds over 5 years ago and I have kept it off with ease. This is not a diet, it's a lifestyle. My family and I now eat healthier than ever, we have mostly well days throughout the year AND we are happy...really happy. Check it out, it may just be the answer to your prayers, I know it was to mine.
Start off with attainable goals. Cut out all alcohol, juice, and soda. You can drink water, tea, and coffee (a little milk is ok). You should not eat out, especially fast food. Cut down on cheese and increase your veggies and lean protein. Fruit is good too this time of year, just eat it in its natural state. I make a lot of soup for my husband. Tomato and beef vegetable are his favorites. Grains are fine, especially whole grains but no white pasta, white bread, or white rice. You can email me if you want the recipe. Also, do not eat any baked goods or anything "white". Don't cut out oil completely, just use healthy oil when you sautee or grill like olive oil. Of course these tips are pretty extreme and you can have anything as long as its in moderation. BUT if you really want to loose weight, those are pretty good guidelines.
I lost 30 lbs on the Lindora diet and have kept it all off for a year now. I highly recommend looking into this program. The program trained me to eat healthier, make better choices with my food and taught portion control.
It's really not hard, in the grand scheme of things.
Watch your portions (what you're used to, in general, is about 2x the size of what a "portion" actually is).
Eat lean meats (turkey, chicken, fish, pork)
Eat vegetables
Eat whole fruits
Eat whole wheats instead of whites
Stop drinking pop.
Stop eating sugar (it lurks EVERYWHERE, even in milk)
reduce sodium
If those are your backbone pricinciples, you're well on your way.
Count (honestly) all the calories you eat. Stop at 1200 per day.
Unfortunately you may be to hungry to keep it up.
I recently read that studies have shown that to lose weight, no matter how much you exercise, you must EAT LESS. Pretty simple.
