I get one every year. I'm an Army combat medic and an EMT. I do not want to put my patients and family in danger. It's really not about ME getting the flu, because I'm young and healthy and would get over it....it's about preventing my patients from getting it...potentially immuno-suppressed people who might not be able to fight it off.
I'm with you....get the flu shot! Don't be a selfish turd!
ETA: I get so sick of hearing stuff like, "I've never had a flu shot in 50 gajillion years and I've never gotten the flu! So that's why getting the flu shot is pointless!"
Just because you don't have extreme flu SYMPTOMS (the only way you know if you've gotten the flu), doesn't mean that you've not had it, carried it, and passed it on to others. Some immune systems simply fight it off better. But some DON'T, and THOSE people are the reason we get the flu shot. We get flu shots to protect OTHER people, not just our selfish selves.
The reason that QueenofCastle got the flu? Not just because SHE didn't get a flu shot, but because the people around her didn't either.
By getting the flu shot, you protect the people who didn't or CAN'T (young babies, immunosuppressed). Not doing so, IMHO, is very selfish indeed.
QueenofCastle, I do hope that you head out and get your shot to protect you and others against the other two types that you've not yet gotten. ♥
End of rant.
