Did It Hurt Getting Mirena Inserted?

I had mirena inserted 9 months ago, and since I wasn't on my period, she had to dialate me to insert it, which hurt like heck, another thing is, that I was reading someone elses response to a mirena question, and it said that you're supposed to have a 6 week check up after it's in to make sure it's in place, and even have an ultrasound to make sure it's centered? I had no follow up. I have weird cramping that does kind of freak me out. so, just curious what others experiences are with the insertion, and their follow up care

What can I do next?

Hello! I had the mirena inserted about 2 months ago and it was my response you were reading about the 6 week follow up. What my doc told me is that the mirena requires that they do follow up exams on all patients who get the mirena. I was out of the country so I had my done about 8 weeks after, which is fine. The docs did an ultrasound to see if it was still in place (correctly centered) along with an exam. My docs told me to come towards the last days of my periof to get the mirena inserted since the opening will be more lubricated it will hurt less. The procedure did not hurt me at all, it was alittle unconfortable but nothing drastic. Besides a little spotting I have not problems. The doc said there might be cramping but I havent experienced it. There are no more follow up besides the 6 week other than the yearly check up. Maybe call you doc and request a check up or make an appt with a different doc. I can give you my docs info if you want. I'm 28 years old with 2 girls who are 14 months apart and I"m done too as are you.

Had the Mirena inserted 5.5 months ago with no folow up. My doc's usually overly cautious with me due to BC not working that well for me (2 BC babies), so im sure if Mirena required an US or follow up she would have told me. I get cramps around my "period" but thats it. If the cramping is really bad and not happening around when you would get a period, Id call the doc to make sure everything is ok.

Hi C.- I am a SAHm of 4- I had a mirena inserted after my 3rd daughter- at my 6 week appoint - so I was still somewhat dialated from the birth- I did not have much pain and also no follow up appointment, 2 years later my new OB pulled it out on accident so now we have a happy surprise of baby #4 after that my hubby got a vascetomy- I did like the mirena while I had it
Good Luck

I got my inserted at the end of March. I was about 7 weeks postpartum. It hurt very bad. My gyne checked the placement right after he put it in with an ultrasound machine. As weeks went by the strings were poking me so I had to go back in to have them cut down. I then had another ultrasound to make sure it was still in place and it was. I have always heard that you needed a follow up to make sure it hasn't moved. If you are suspecting anything call and insist you be seen especially since you had 2 bc babies. Good luck to you!
