S.S.
I know people who go on the pill specifically for acne, not actually b/c they need birth control. So I guess it works!
I've heard it helps, I get terrible breakouts the same time EVERY month. Ugh. It has to be a hormone thing. I'm not currently on any birth control - did it help you? (we are currently trying to decide if we want baby #2, so I was giving it some time.. and don't want to do anything long-lasting such as Mirena) ;-)

Yes... but triggered gynecological cancer. I can't take ANY kind of hormonal BC, because the hormonal side effects are very very dangerous for me.
A warning on Yaz... there are MANY lawsuits (tens of thousands of women are suing) out on that particular contraceptive... since it creates the risk of 67% HIGHER than other hormone contraceptives of forming bloodclots. It also specifically triggers a certain kind of clotting disorder that 1:5 caucasians have. Which makes you 35x more likely to develop blood clots (you don't need to be overweight, over 35, smoke... PURELY taking something that triggers the response at any age -including teens- will trigger the formation of small and massive clots) ON TOP of the 67% higher chance that Yaz does. Blood clots are serious business, since pulmonary embolism often leads to brain damage and death.
The numbers can be confusing... so here's a quick breakdown:
- All women are twice as likely on Yaz to develop blood clots than on other contraceptives
- 1 in 5 women are 35 times more likely on Yaz to develop blood clots than on other forms of hormonal birth control.
Bayer is putting out a new/different form of birth control in response.
The studies are printed in the British Journal of Medicine. They're danish studies... which is particularly key... because Denmark has a record of ALL women who are on birth control and ALL women who develop any kind of clot (for any reason). So the study involves THE ENTIRE FEMALE POPULATION of Denmark... instead of a US study of 600 or 6000.
Yep!
I had terrible acne during my first pregnancy and immediately after it. Going back on the pill cleared it up in 2 weeks.
Ortho Tri Cyclen is a good one for acne
I'm on Yaz, and it has helped my skin a lot! When i had the Mirena IUD, my skin was horrible!!!
My stepdaughter had fairly severe acne. On Ortho Tri-cyclen or Ortho Cyclen she had perfect skin!
Girl, when I was on the pill, my skin glowed and I was sexy-thin and full of energy!
Otho tri cyclen was specifically designed to help wih acne. My doctor prescribed it for my sister and I just to help clear our skin and it worked great. It would avoid Yaz. My cousin is in the middle of a settlement with them because Yaz created severe health problems (liver related, I think) and caused her to gain over a hundred pounds.
I've been on the pill for years, and have always had zits. That being said, I've never had severe acne though.
Whenever I was on any birth control pill, I did not have any break-outs. But I never had really bad ones to begin with, and I was on a number of different brands of BCP. Remember though that there are side-effects and risks with any medication, including hormonal birth control methods, including blood clots like Riley mentioned. I did have blood clot issues after having DD, but it was NOT related to hormones in birth control pills (I had been off of them for 8 months before getting pregnant with DD, and other factors came into play causing my blood clots, including having a c-section). Because of my history, my doctor recommended an IUD that does not use hormones (Paraguard). I've had it in for just over a year and I do get more individual pimples popping up than before - when I was on the Pill, as well as pregnant, I got zero.
Hi--
Using the birth control pill totally messes up your hormones. In my opinion that's never a good thing. There are natural routes you can take to support hormonal balance that don't introduce synthetics into your body. I can recommend a natural doc if you're interested. I could probably give you advice myself as I know the supplements you could use, but it's probably better if you get professional advice.
