Diarrhea! - Louisville,KY

My girl has had diarrhea since Saturday. Apparently there is a virus or something going around here. Anyway, it isn't constant, just maybe 2-3 times a day right now. She doesn't seem bothered by it, just maybe not so much of an appetitie. Is there anything you all know of I can give her to help it go away??

What can I do next?

It'll just take time for it to work out. In the mean time, avoid juice and other sugary drinks, as well as sugary or high protein foods. The BRAT diet is best - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast (or tea, if you feel okay giving her herbal teas ... but that's iffy depending on age).
Do make sure she isn't getting dehydrated. Probably not with 2-3 times a day as long as she is drinking too. But if you're worried about it, give her some diluted pedialyte, or pedialyte popsicles.

And if it's not better by the end of the week, call the doc!

You can try some probiotics - I get the powder form from the healthfood store.. Also, as you already know, keep her hydrated : )

My son had this too and it lasts for a full week. At the start he had a fever and was miserable... by the end he had diarrhea every 3 or 4 hours and minimal appetite. Just keep her very hydrated (not just water) and avoid milk and milk products. The body has a hard time digesting dairy when sick. You can't give her anything, but keep her slowed-down (no running around in the heat), hydrated and rested.

Our pediatrician recommends not trying to stop diarrhea unless the child is becoming dehydrated. I give my daughter Gatorade when she has any type of viral problem. I agree with the other post about the probiotics... yogurt is a good idea.

I second the probiotics. I've used Kids Culturelle with great luck twice a day. You can get a coupon from their website and both Walgreens and Target sell it.

Yes, first of all, when we have the "runs" , the body is trying to remove something unclean or poisonous from our bodies. Oftentimes, when a person does not have an appetite, then usually they have eaten or dranked something that has damaged their kidney and, or liver. I recommend that you first, buy a bottle of (charcoal capsules) you can find them at most health food stores. Charcoal will absorb all poisons , toxins and contaminates, except lead and mercury. Whenever a person feels ill or is suffering from headaches, the first thing that they should do is take 3 charcoal capsules. The pain or nausea usually goes away within 10 minutes. If this was caused by a fungus or virus, then you should purchase a bottle of (olive leaf) from wal-mart. Wal-mart brand has the highest quality olive leaf. Olive leaf kills most viruses and fungus. In fact, if a person takes olive leaf everyday, it will be hard for them to catch anything! Keep in mind, that diarrhea can dehydrate a person quickly; so you should make sure that your daughter is drinking plenty of fluids. I am familiar with many natural cures. Write back if this does not solve your issue quickly.
