Diaper Rash from Hell....

My 12 month old has had a diaper rash for MONTHS.
(She's been in to 6 different pediatricians.) A couple claimed it was a yeast infection, (We tried over the counter, and prescription- no difference.) We tried Poop Goop. We tried mashed up concauctions given to us by doctors. (NO difference.) We tried the best desitan, A&D, Butt Paste.) I've tried everything. My pocket book is stretched, my nerves are done... and I'm ready to just bring her in to a dermatologist.

Her regular doctor is Dr. Tate at Metro Peds. (We've seen him numerous times for his. We brought her in after 3 days, after a week... nothing is helping.) Even if it clears up, the moment she poops it's back with a vengance.

The last couple night's she's been scratching the diaper area like CRAZY. I called the doctor and he said to bring her in. (We have an appt. tomorrow.) I don't really trust ANYONE anymore. This is still happening, and I can't remember the last time the poor kid didn't have a rash. I feel like a horrible mom- I've tried EVERYTHING.

My daughter is even having trouble sleeping because of it. (She can't stop scratching. It's been keeping me up for a couple days- nonstop... and I'm about done.)
Any other moms deal with this? Help!

What can I do next?

I was recommended once for diaper rash putting an over the counter anti-bacterial cream then on top of that putting a diaper cream like Destin to act like a barrier. We had luck with it when our youngest daughter had diaper rash. My other idea for relief for your daughter is to have her soak in that collidal oatmeal bath, I know Aveeno makes it. Also, she maybe too young for this, but try adding yogurt to her diet, the natural properties of it help with anything fungal or bacterial. I think I started my girls around 9/10 months on yogurt, Yo Baby is a good brand to try with not a lot of sugar in it. Good luck, I know diaper rash is no fun!!

Is she eating any foods with coloring dye? I have known some babies to be allergic to the dye in say, yogurts, juice, candy, etc. Look at some of the foos she is eating and see if that helps. Eliminate the food to see if it clears up.
We use the walmart brand (equate A&D) diaper ointment...it works wonders for us. My son sometimes gets red and rashy and we put it on him and over night its gone...your daughters rash sounds more serious.
Good luck...poor little girl must be miserable. :(

I am sure you have probably tried this but thought I would mention it. We use athlets foot medicine and then desitn or A&D over it when my duaghters was really bad.

My daughter has extremely sensitive skin and has eczema. She is 5 and fully potty trained and still get's irritated on her bottom and private. It's a possibilty your daughter could have this? I would try a dermatologist. Eczema causes itching.

Also whenever my daughter was the slightest bit pink down there after changing a diaper she got diaper cream put on becuase I tried to prevent them so I wouldn't have to deal with diaper rash. Maybe you could try putting diper cream or vaseline on after every diaper change.

I also remember if I switched diaper brands on her she got a rash. We could only use Pampers and any other brand she got a rash from. Maybe your daughter is allergic to something in diapers and you could try cloth ones or something.

You could try letting her run around naked a few times a day to air out too.

Like I said my daughter is 5 and currently evertime she takes a bath I have to put Eucerin Cream (I buy the generic) atleast a inch thick over her entire body and especially her bottom and I put her in footie pjs and in the morning her skin is back to normal and smooth.

Hi K. -

I have a 15 month old girl. I had the SAME problem! Although the prescription medicine for yeast infections did help some. . .as soon as she pooped again the rash was back with a vengence!! A friend told me this: Buy a TUB of Aquaphor ointment (it's expensive and well worth it). Clean the "area" and put your regular A&D or whatever you use then put an INCH THICK of aquaphor over the diaper rash ointment. This will create a shield and do it EVERYTIME you change her diaper. We did this for about two weeks and then we applied it just after she pooped. But we have not had one severe diaper rash with her since we started using Aquaphor in really thick layers! Hope this helps!! K., I live in LAKEVILLE TOO and would LOVE to start a playgroup. Im a SAHM that works very part time in Public/Media Relations. Email me if you're interested! We at least have girls close in age. (I also have an ALMOST 3 yr old boy). ____@____.com
