If the rash is due to the irritation of the diarrhea, I use corn starch for my daughter. Just a light rub of the powder to help keep things dry helps.
my 2yr old daughter has been sick for the entire month of october with a virus and ear infections and diarrhea.so now she has a horrible diaper rash that desitin isnt fixing.i change her often and this rash is really putting a damper on our potty training.i showed her doctor but all she said was wait until her test come back but im wondering what i can do until then to soothe her privates.
okay so thanks everyone who wrote me to help all your suggestions were great. so i went with using the womans yeast infection cream mixed with desitin until she go in to see her dr,then the doc prescribed vusion and it has worked wonders. it is clearing up all the redness and no more bleeding or anything and she doesnt cry she actually laughs i am so thankful to you all this is a great site!!!

Good morning
Have you tried womens yeast infection cream? I used it on my boys. Diaper rash is an external yeast infection. Try on a small spot first and see what happens.
Good luck

It sounds wierd, but my babysitter uses tea bags. My daughter had such a bad diaper rash that she was bleeding and had blisters from diarrhea! Even though we changed them immediately, it was still so horrible. YOu could see a difference in the redness the first day and by the end of the second day it was almost completely gone!
If it is a yeast infection do Lotrimn (not sure how to spell) and if not, I use only DR. SMITH'S Diaper Ointment. IT IS WONDERFUL. WE use to have blistery type problems and this stuff healed it in one application. A little price...(7-8 dollars) but worth every cent. I buy it at walmart.
I had the same problem with my child and it ended up being a strep infection in the bottom (perianal strep). I had never heard of it before. The desitin made it worse and the pain was horrible. They ended up treating it with antibiotics, but my other two kids got it and it was hard to get rid of!! Make sure that your doctor does a culture of her bottom and test for strep. The only comfort was oatmeal baths and benedryl. You can find the oatmeal baths at CVS or the grocery store.
Good luck!

Hello! We use this butt paste that you can only get from North Side McKinney Pharmacy. They make it their at it beats out all that we have tried and we have tried everything. Also, we use Renew lotion on top of that and it helps keep his bottom from getting other rashes as well as breaking out. Hope this helps e-mail me at ____@____.com if you want to know more about the Renew lotion as I would love to talk to you about it!
Have a great Friday!

Aquaphor - I use that for everything! Nothing else ever has ever worked for me....it's made by Eucerine....kinda pricey - but OH SO WORTH IT!
Hello sorry to hear about your little girl, i also used desitin and it did no good so my aunt told me about an ointment she use to use on her kids. the ointment is called A+D, i used it in the mornin and by bed time the rash was gone. well i hope it works for your lil one also.. hope she gets better soon. god bless
When my girls had a diaper rash that bad... I let them go without the diaper while they were up. I know this makes a lot more work for you as far as clean up but the fresh air and letting it dry out some makes a world of difference. Also I used Butt paste instead of Destin. You can get it right at Wal Mart. I loved that stuff. Hope this helps.
Hi K.!
This JUST HAPPENED about a couple of weeks ago to my son. I called the nurse at my pediatrician and she told me just the thing! She said that after the child has diarrhea for a few days, the sloughing of the colon causes a secondary yeast infection on the skin in the diaper area. Here is what she told me to do:
Get an antifungal cream like athlete's foot cream, and mix it in a separate tupperware container with the Desitin Original (the Desitin Creamy doesn't stay on the skin well enough for this problem). Then apply the mixture to the skin liberally. Also, during this time, do not wipe the skin at all, put her in the bath and rinse gently with water at each diaper change (a pain, I know, but necessary because they are hurting so much).
After I did this, the diaper rash had improved a lot in 24 hours, and was almost gone in a couple of days! This was after almost 2 weeks of diaper rash that would not respond to anything I had tried.
Oh, and several other people have recommended Butt Paste, which I also use and tried for this, but Butt Paste will not cure the yeast infection, which is what is going on here with your daughter, because of the diarrhea.
Good luck!
K., I had the same issue with both my oldest children...the only thing that ever helped at all is the powdered Faultless Starch...the non scented box. Put it in a clean sock and use it to powder their little bottoms between diaper changes. My son was so bad that he had blisters but the white starch forms a shield between their skin and moisture. I used it by the handfull at first, then went to the sock treatment. I hope it works for those sweet little ones.
A rash that bad/persistent sounds like it could be a yeast infection. My younger daughter had a stubborn rash like that and my pediatrician said to use Lotrimin AF in addition to the diaper rash cream (apply the Lotrimin first) to help clear it up.
Hi K., I agree with Sandy. Your daughter needs probiotics. My doctor recomended Culturell. I got mine at Walmart and opened one capsule into my sons cereal each morning. It will help with the diarhea and the yeast. Hope your little girl is better soon.
sometimes when a person is on antibiotics it wipes out the good things in your system, too. often this can result in a yeast infection. diarrhea can be brought on by antibiotics as well. It is possible your daughter may have the beginnings of a yeast infection? On a child it usually appears as an external rash. You can try spreading plain yogurt on the affected area as a short term remedy, or an antifungal that is normally used to combat athletes foot will work. Lotrimin is a brand name, but any clotrimazole cream will do the trick. Hope this helps!
It's likely a yeast infection. You can try Lotrimin AF. Put it on a couple times a day. In our experience, if it's yeast, it should clear up pretty quickly -- often the redness would go away in a day, then would be totally gone by 3 days.
Also, if it's irritating to have wetness against her bottom, you can coat her skin with something like vaseline after you put the Lotrimin on. I know some people prefer Aquaphor or Eucerin to plain vaseline, but Aquaphor and Eucerin both contain lanolin, which my daughter is sensitive to. Her skin would get MUCH worse because of the reaction to the lanolin.
As far as wipes, you may have already tried this, but regular baby wipes can sting on a diaper rash or yeast infection. Use Kleenex Viva paper towels until her bottom clears up. I would keep a roll of paper towels near the changing table, and some sort of bowl or container. Fill the container with luke warm water and use the towels as wipes.
Hope she gets better soon!
I'm sure your baby received a lot of antibiotics. I think you should cure diaper rash inside too. Probiotic could help. We started with this
http://store.natren.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PRO...
Now we are taking this
http://www.country-life.com/moreinfo.cfm?Category=9&P...
We bought it in Sprouts.
And yeast (candida) can give rash too. I nurse my baby. I'm taking grapefruit seeds extract and he receives this supplement with my milk.
http://www.pureliquidgold.com/
I'm taking in pills.
Hi, K.! The doctor can prescribe a cream for a yeast infection. Call the nurse ASAP and tell them you want a prescription before the weekend is here. It clears up in a few days, as long as you put that on at least 3 times a day.
And, Butt Paste works well, too. However, since it is at such a bad stage already, I would go with the prescription. Next time, when you see the rash start, try the Butt Paste because it works really well.
And, did you know they have something for the diarrhea? When my 9 month old was going through that, the doctor told me to go to the pharmacy and ask them for "Lactinex" granules. You just mix it up in their food. Just FYI Good luck! Please keep us posted!
My Mom has always taken some flour and browned it in a skillet. Dark brown. Then sprinkle it on the baby every time you change their diaper. It is an old fashion cure that works perfectly. Make sure you cool the flour off before you put in on the baby. You can keep it in a dry container as it will not go bad.
Gloria
When my children were small, my doctor would prescribe Lotrimin which used to be prescription only. In my opinion, this stuff is great. You can find it at the store where the foot products are located. Good luck!
Boudreaux's Butt Paste....it's the best, and you can find it at any drug store, Wal-Mart, etc!!!
My fist baby was hospitalized for a nasty stomach virus when she was only 3 months old, and she got the bad diaper rash. A&D ointmennt was suggested by the hospital and it worked wonderfully. I was also told that if that did not work, to use liquid Maalox. It did work, but Maalox was such and unusual sounding remedy that it stuck out in my mind.
My daughter had a diaper rash that turned very very serious and all the normal treatments did not take care of the problem. If by some chance all the other advice you have been given does not work, consider this. The best thing for a rash is to let the bottom air out. You might have to let her go without a diaper as much as possible. You can do this at nap time - put some towels and/or a big pad underneath her and just let her go without. When you change her, clean her without using wipes - or at least get the Pampers sensitive wipes. Then cover her with Aquaphor. You can have 2 layers; if you think it might be a yeast infection you can use the lotrimin and then cover it all with Aquaphor - that keeps the urine away from the skin. Also cut down on citrus fruit; no applejuice, applesauce etc., as that makes the rash worse. The diarrhea may be making the rash worse, so you need to deal with the diarrhea. If she has been on antibiotics, those may have killed off all the "good" bacteria in her tummy. If so, talk to your doctor about getting some phobiotics to re-introduce the bacteria into her system. They sell it at Whole Foods in powder form and you can sprinkle a little in her food each day. That may help the diarrhea which will help to ease the rash. If you have an area of your house with no carpet, consider letting her run around with no diaper as much as possible, even if it means a big mess for you to clean up - the more air, the less rash. Good luck and god bless; I know your pain. My daughter would literally scream and cry if we had to clean her bottoms; we would have to physically restrain her so that we could clean her up. It's heartbreaking. But she did get better and it's all gone now.
it sounds like a case of infant yeast infection from all of the antibiotics that she may have been on for ear infections. Our pediatrician said you can get perscription stuff but that he recommended that you get the straight Lotromin cream and apply that. It always worked for us.
Hi,
Vusion is the thing!!!
You can ask for a prescription for it. My little girl had a diaper rash due to a severe milk allergy. Boudreauxs and Dr. Smiths couldn't touch it, nor desitin. It is the best.
Have you tried Arbonne's diaper rash cream? It is wonderful... a little pricey but wonderful. Also, wal-mart has a generic cream just called "diaper rash" and it is loaded w/zinc, so it works real good a little thick though. You could try giving her an oatmeal bath...that should help soothe her... I hope she starts feeling better
Hello My daughter got open blisters on her bottom from having giardia that she contracted from one of her little friends that contracted it from the water at a water park...anyyway, we tried EVERYTHING. I like :
* bagbalm- its in a green can you get it in the pet dept. at walmart.
* Triple paste- alittle expensive but works really well.
* Water blocker skin cream. This cream will do anything and it's all natural. You get it at www.honeyguyproducts.com and it is made of bees wax. This is all I use because we have recently found out my daughter is allergic to llanolin(which is found in all diaper creams)They also have a natural bug repellant, it works good too.
Well hope I have helped.
J.
I have used Dr.Smith's 9can find at HEB) and have had great success. My daughter has sensitive skin w/some ecezema- Dr. Smith's seems to REALLy help her-
Her diaper rash is most likely a yeast infection due to the antibiotics that I assume she has been taking. Your Pedi should give you advice on how to treat it. Monistat cream always worked for my son. I know this sounds strange but letting her run around the house without a diaper and expose the area to air also really helps.
BABY BOTTOM BUTTER!!!!
There is something called that at certain pharmacies. I know down here in Southeast Texas it is at Kings Pharmacy. It looks like a brownish clay but IT WORKS!!! My daughter went through the same and I was scared she would get yet another staff infection down there and my doctor recommended this diaper rash cream. I couldn't believe how quick it cleared it up. Now we keep these really inexpensive bottles of Diaper rash cream everywhere from the diaper bag to my room to her room to the grandparents house. Check it out ...
http://www.fullcirclebaby.com/catalog.php?catalog=301
I think it was even cheaper at the pharmacy and of course there was no shipping. My packaging looked a little different though maybe they changed it.
Good luck I have been there and I know this works.
Butt Paste and Burt's Bees Baby Powder.
Hi K.,
If Desitin isn't working it is probably a yeast infection. A good indicator is if it is bright red. Yeast can also cause congestion in the ear that antibiotics will not be able to eliminate. In fact, antiobiotics kill off the natually occuring bacteria in her digestive tract that can actually cause a yeast infection or make a current infection worse. The other thing that could cause it is allergies. She may be sensitive to her diapers or wipes. My daughter was allergic to several types of diapers. A way to determine which condition is involved is through muscle testing. I am a chiropractor and I can use applied kinesiology or muscle testing to test your daughter. We can determine if it is yeast, allergies or something else. If you are interested in more information please don't hesitate to call me at ###-###-####. Thanks!
Dr. Sandra S.
Wow! You've got tons of suggestions. If it is yeast, I would bathe my kids in a bathtub with baking soda in it and then do the Lotramin and some kind of barrier. I don't think anyone has mentioned Bag Balm. I use it often and think it is a miracle worker. You may think it is weird though. You have to buy it at a feed store. He-He. WORKS:-)
Dr Smith's Diaper Rash Cream is the MIRACLE diaper rash cream!!! I PROMISE!!! I've used it on both my kids. IT IS AMAZING!!!
BE BLESSED!!
I second the Lotramin AF (Anti-fungal). My daughter is completely allergic to zinc oxide which is in every butt thing they make. The dr finally recommended this and she doesn't have any more issues. It was a godsend to us!
GL!
K.,
I have never been a fan of anything other than Balmex. It worked like a charm on my baby & I would buy it in bulk if I could. I hope you can find some relief for you & your baby.
God Bless.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste
If it's not a yeast infection try this at night in addition to the Boudreaux's (which is great)during the day:
Make a paste of corn starch and Mylanta (not the minty kind!!). Apply it to the diaper rash on the last diaper of the night - really layer it on, we used to smear it on the diaper as well. We usually saw relief the next day after one application, but sometimes it took a couple of nights for the rash to totally resolve. It works because the Mylanta neutralizes the acids in the urine so they don't irritate the skin, and the cornstarch helps keep her dry.
Girl the boudreaux butt paste has been around for years. My mom told me to use it or borafax which I don't see around anymore, but it works well the boudreaux is my next best fav. It works so much quicker and better than desitin. I tryed desitin before when they were out of boudreaux and I went right back out and found some boudreaux it clears them so fast. Plus give frequent baths even if you just have her sit in a small pool of water, makes them feel alot better. Wipes can irritate them the cool water is much better. Keep her changed the urine and poop just makes you that much more uncomfortable. When your stomach is tore up like that there is more acid in your stool and it really tears up their skin. Good luck.
cornstarch baby powder works great on my daughter who has very sensitive skin.
diaper rash cream from arbonne is amazing... you will not regret having it around. its acutally recomended by many drs..... my girlfriend just had a baby that has been sick and in the childrens hostpital,,, they game him something and she said arbonne worked better and she is so happy.... you can get it 35 percent off for 29.00 for one year if you want. if not you can just buy it the first time retale.... www.athomebusiness.myarbonne.com its in the baby line xoxo L.
Try Boudreaux Butt Paste - funny name, but it's awesome! I am not sure about Walmart but I know they have it at Target.
Hi K.,
My son got an ear infection, and developed a nasty case of diaper rash because he was on antibiotics. My doctor told me to use lotrimin AF (it's an over the counter anti fungal). It cleared up within 1 day.
Boudreaux's Butt Paste is the best thing I have found for my son. When I tried to use Desitin or others like it, he screamed in pain when I applied it. I am assuming it burned. When I apply the Butt Paste, it doesn't bother him. I is a little smoother than other diaper creams, not as difficult to smoothe on. It does smell different, but I would rather use it than anything else. Also, it cleared his diaper rash very quickly, sometimes within only a few diaper changes.
I actully have worked around tons of diaper rashes ( daycare 7 yrs) and I have found that liquid mylanta and powder work the best. Wash out wipes day dry, then use a cotton ball dab liquid mylanta on rash and put powder on. Does not hurt them like the cream will. (EVEN BUTT PASTE) and change often and will be gone within a day or two. I have tryed butt paste, destin and it makes it worse at a certin point. Yeast cream works better than butt paste I think. This is what I have seen work best!
When my son has a raw bottom, I like to use Boudreaux's Butt Paste and Lansinoh. Lansinoh is real lanolin and is primarly used to relieve sore nipples after breastfeeding. But, it is really thick and puts a great coating on the sore bottom. Also, I haven't tried it, but a coworker uses Milk of Magnesia on her daughter's bottom. It is supposed to relieve the acid just like in our tummies.
My son went through the same thing a few months ago, we used Desitin for a while and it didn't work for us either. So I talked to my Dr and we used Lotramin (the cream they use for athlete's foot) then we also used an oatmeal bath, the same thing they use for chicken pox or eczema, it worked great. The rash was gone in 3 days and he felt better immediately!! Also, i have found that the B Butt paste works way better than Desitin.
Good Luck!
Boudreax's Butt paste all the way!!!!! You can get it at Target! It's awesome!
Hi K.. My son was teething last month and had serious diahrrea..poor thing he had such a diaper rash. I was switching between balmex, desitin, and then finally the equate brand diaper rash. That helped him the best! Good Luck.
This is gonna sound weird but I swear it works,
you will need: Mylanta origonal Liquid, Neosporin, Desitin origonal, Cotton balls, Wash cloth, Warm water
Take Mylanta origonal liquid and Desitin ORIGONAL with 40% zinc oxide (the creamy formula desitin does not work as well) and make a paste by mixing the mylanta with the Desitin origonal. Then follow the directions below
MYLANTA plain old origonal liquid Mylanta,
1.- First you wash the butt with a warm wash cloth (not wipes the ingreadient in the wipes makes the rash sting.
OR you might even want to bathe the baby in warm oatmeal bath. if you dont have store brand oatmeal you can put some whole oatmeal cereal (plain) in a food grinder and grind it to a powder then add it to a warm bath and soak. it makes a mess of the bath tub but soothes the skin)
2.- after you clean the butt, soak several cotton balls in the mylanta liquid straight from the bottle and wipe it all over the clean butt. leave the mylanta liquid on for a little bit to air dry with out wipeing away. (give baby a tooth brush with baby safe tooth paste on it to chew on this will keep baby busy while on the table)
3.- after the butt is somewhat air dried, next take a generous amount of NEOSPORIN and wipe it all over butt and rash area.
4.- Now take the mixture of Desitin origonal and Mylanta and spread like peanut butter all over butt and rash area. Leave this on and re apply diaper to baby.
Now, Give baby some of the Mylanta by mouth (the liquid from the bottle only. NOT the mixture of desitin and mylanta that you used on the butt)give 1/4 teaspoon for babies under 9 months and 1/2 TEASPOON for babies over. This will help reduce acid in babies stools. and the mylanta on the butt will neuteralize the acid in stool that comes out in diaper onto the butt. I swear this works.
I have a friend who lives in Colorado and her Dr's are the Dr's that wrote the book Baby Wise and this is what they told her to do. and she told me and now I use this method all the time.
DONT give baby any acidic drinks when they have loose stools this can make it worse. also no sugery drinks like juices when they have loose stools as well. the sugar just fuels the problem.
For real bad diareaha, dont put baby in a diaper, buy a cheep play pen at wal mart and keep baby in it (just throw it out or bleach it clean when you are done but its better than getting house/floor all messed up) dress the baby in cloth diapers or cloth underwear and put the plastic potty training pants over them. the cloth lets the butt breathe allowing the butt to dry so a rash does not form. NEVER use wipes on a butt with a severe rash they sting the butt worse. just buy some cheep wash cloths at the dollar store or cut up some cloth diapers and soak them in warm water and wipe baby's bottom with them instead of wipes.
then throw the used cloths out or soak them in bleach/water to clean them and then wash them in hot water to use them next time you baby has a bad rash.
Good luck, A. J
I use Baby Bottom Butter. You can find it a Kings Pharmacy. Some other tips...After you clean her up, use a hairdryer to dry her bottom. Of course not to close and on a warm setting. I have not done the hairdryer thing, but I heard it helps. I hope this helps!
My daughter always gets a horrible diaper rash any time she is on antibiotics. I have found that PURE CORNSTARCH is the only thing that really helps.. no creams ( moisture). Then I let her air out as much as possible. She normally pees all over but it cures her painful diaper rash. Good Luck.
Buy yeast infection cream (like myconizole ?) and apply to the area. It works so good -you will be amazed. A pharmacist once told me about this.
Our Dr perscribed a cream called " HAPPY HINNY "
and trust me it makes them HAPPY. Wheneven my daughter starts to get a rash I get the cream and tell her I have medicine and she gets on the bed and lays down, so I know it makes her feel better, cause after I put it on, she says "ALL BETTER MAMA"
Both my kids couldn't use over the counter and had to use prescibed cream. But you don't use it very often.
The rash goes away in like 1 day.
I would definately call the Dr back till I got your child some relief.
I also used Lotramin prescribed my our dr. and it does work wonders, however for otc I HIGHLY recommend Dr Smiths. You only need a tiny tiny bit and it does work miracles. Butt paste was so thick and it seemed to my my son's rash more irritated. The Dr Smith's is much smoother and well worth the money!!! Hope she feels better soon!!
J.
Yes, I swear by "the Butt Paste" best stuff around.
J.
Use plain yogurt for the rash and change the diapers as often as possible. I know it sounds weird, but it works. I have used it on both of my daughters (3 years old and 1 year old). Another good thing is vaseline. None of the rash creams ever helped the really bad rashes for my babies. The main thing is to change the diapers constantly. Like every time they go the bathroom.
Arbonne has an awesome diaper rash creme, it works really well and it's all botanically based so it wont her her sensitive skin. THe creme is $14.00 + tax, and it has to be ordered, but i can get you a sample to hold you over until it gets to you... it takes 3-4 business days. You can contact me by email at ____@____.com I am an Arbonne independent consultant and can get it for you. I can also see if one of my consultant friends has one already that you could get without having to wait for it.
Good luck and have a great day!
C.
Try a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream (for kids) and give her lots of naked time to air out that area.
I use Dr. Smiths it works quick. ALso my son was always on anitbotics for ear infections so we mixed some stuff from whole foods for children that helped with diarrhea. It worked overnight! It was something that had acidophilus in it. My doctor told us to get it and they knew what it was when I went to whole foods, it is for kids. We just mixed alittle in his forumla when he was on antibotics and no more diarrhea. It worked great.
You've gotten a lot of responses! Wow. I didn't read them all but soaking in baking soda has helped us as well as Buddrouxs (sp) Butt paste. Good luck.
If she's been on antibodics, good chance rash is a yeast infection. I think there are some over the counter things you can use on it, but I'd call your doctor - might be able to give you something stronger prescriptive wise to make it go away faster. Probotics are good when you have your kids on antibodics (You can find these in some yogurts etc too).
Good luck.
Arbonne diaper rash cream! Nothing would work for my little girl and I tried a sample of this and it cleared it up.
Boudreauxs Butt Paste .. enough said :) ITS MAZING I USA IT ON MY BABY
Hi K.,
My son had a horrible yeast infection last week and the only thing that touched it was the Arbonne diaper rash cream. A little trick to keep it on your baby without it wiping off onto the diaper, put the diaper cream on really thick, then add petroleum jelly on top of it. It helps the cream stay on the baby's bottom and not just wipe off onto the diaper. See if it works with the desitin. If it doesn't help, let me know and I'd be happy to give you some samples of the Arbonne diaper rash cream. (It was featured in the March 2007 issue of Pregnancy Magazine!)
Good luck!
Jacqueline
I had the same issue and I highly suggest Aquaphor. You get it at the drug store and I swear it's a miracle cream. It healed my baby girl's diaper rash in a day and a half. I also use it for any dry skin she gets or scratches on her face. It usually heals it overnight. Trust me, try it! Good Luck!
My sister swears by Boudreaux Butt Paste. You can get it at babies r us.
With all the meds shes been on it may be a yeast infection, my son even got one after being on antibiotics. The best cream for a yeast infection is the foot cream limosill.
We tried many things for my two year old and Butt Paste worked the nest. It clears it up very fast maybe a day or so. Great!!!!!
K.--this mixture paste works wonders on severe diaper rash.
Mix some Neosporin, Monostat 7 and Desitin Creamy together and spread it on thick...everytime you change the diaper. Within 24 hours it should be a lot better. Good Luck!
K.,
I am a grandmother of 4 and a mother of 3. I have seen my share of diaper rashes. The best thing to do is expose it to air. If you can let her run around (in the house without her diaper the air will soothe it. Also, corn starch is great-my mother even used it on me. Just pack it on and then put her diaper on. It makes a mess in her little privates and you really need to nk clean well, but I think it's better than any ointment I have ever used.
Good luck with this,
P.
I got a prescription diaper rash cream that was great - as your pediatrician to subscribe you one. As for over-the-counter, Boudreaux's Butt Cream is one of the strongest on the market (confirmed by pediatrician).
My son gets horrible diaper rashes all the time. He has very sensitive skin. He gets rashes so bad sometimes that he gets blisters. I tried so many things over the counter and have found one ointment that works. I buy it at Walmart it is called Triple Paste medicated ointment for diaper rash. The cost is about $8.00 for a tube that is 2 oz. It is so worth it. You will tell a big difference in just one day. It has been the only relief for my son and I keep several tubs on hand at all times. It is the only ointment that I use now. Also use Aloe Vera & Vitamin E baby powder over the ointment. Another thing I do is give him baths in Aveeno bath. I hope this helps. Good luck to you and your daughter. God Bless!
this is going to sound a bit crazy, but it definitely works. you need a tube of yeast infection cream(any kind will work) and desitin.
mix together 2/3 yeast infection cream and 1/3 desitin (you can do this inside the clean pamper) and apply to baby's bottom. you don't need to reapply for every #1 pamper, only for #2. after a day or so, the rash should be clear. good luck with this.
M.
Boudreax's Butte paste is wonderful!!!!! i've used it on my grandkids who have had some awful rashes due to diarrhea. it can be bought at most pharmacies and at Sam's club and Walmart. Hope it works as well for you as it does for me. It is produced in Louisiana. My daughter and I discovered it when she lived in Alexandria, Louisiana. of course it was highly recommended there!!!!
My son had really bad diaper rash and the nurse told me no wipes. Use toilet paper. Depending on the diaper rash an anti fungal will make it go away. My sons got so bad they gave him a burn cream to put on it. Also a warm baking soda bath. His cleared up right after using those things.
K., have you tried Boudreaux's Butte Paste, it is by far the best, and way better than Desitin. I know because I have used both. You can find it anywhere, HEB, Walgreens, its a really cute colorful tube, and I guranteed no matter what kind of rash, you will see results over night. I received my first tube for my baby shower and have bought nothing since.
Good luck with your munchkin.
C.
A co-worker once told me that the best way he and his wife found to cure his daughter's diaper rash was to blow dry her toosh. Seriously. Also try Aveeno baby rash cream. That one or this one, Item#: 853
Arbonne Baby Care Herbal Diaper Rash Cream really work great.
Try Dr. Smith's. I think it is the best diaper rash ointment on the market. When my daughters had diarrhea they too would get a horrible diaper rash. My pediatrician recommended it and I never went back to anything else. They are 4 and 6 now and "cleaning" themselves after they go to the bathroom. So I still use the Dr. Smith's occassionaly. It's a littler pricier than the other diaper rash ointments but it is worth every penny. You can find it at local HEB's, some Walmart's carry it. Sometimes you have to ask for it. Good luck.
My son had a really bad diaper rash when he was about 3 1/2 weeks old, and my sister-in-law told me to use Gold Bond Baby Powder (in a gold dispenser w/ red lettering...I could only find it at CVS). I didn't think it would work, but the diaper rash was gone in a day! I use it every day as a preventative & he hasn't had a diaper rash since. Good luck!!
When I was a Mary Kay consultant I had moms buying the Extra Emollient Night Cream from me to use as cream. They said it was the best thing to use to prevent diaper rash and to make it go away. I used it once when my guy got diaper rash and they were right, cleared it right up.
Dr.Smiths diaper ointment works great! It is in a white round container. I put it on with each diaper change & niether one of my kids have gotten a diaper rash, but Dr. Smith's was what the hospital used on my son when he was first born and in the NICU as a preemie. One of the nurses even told me to put it on a little red burn on his face from the tape used at the hospital & the red burn was gone in a day. I would swear by this stuff. It is only sold at HEB (that has been the only place I have found it.
good luck & sometimes letting her go diaperless for a little while & getting some air to the area also might help (may be a little messy)

I would bet almost anything that it's yeast related. My daughter got yeast rashes all the time and the only thing that took care of them was the Arbonne baby lotion (diaper rash cream NEVER worked...)
Good luck!!
Try Dr. Smith's Diaper rash ointment. You can get it at HEB or Wal-Mart. It usually works in a day or two, and it is great. It is more expensive, but worth every penny. My daughter constantly had a diaper rash (we discovered that when we change diapers, it helped alot). I rely on Dr. Smith's. It is the best that I have found.
Good luck,
E..
Married mother of 3.
Often the diarrhea causes a rash because it is acidic (not sure if I spelled that correctly!) Try letting her sit in a bath of warm water with baking soda added several times a day. Pat dry and let air dry. Use B. Butt Paste after before dressing again.
I totally feel your pain. My daughter is 2 yrs old also and goes through bouts of diarrhea quite often. She has been blessed (sarcastically put)with her dads digestive tract; anything too acidic upsets her stomach. After complete desperation and not finding anything that works to cure her diaper rash I came across an old wives remedy that works wonders. You give her a bath like normal & once you're down bathing her, put about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar in her bath water (just make sure she doesn't splash the water into her eyes). Let her soak for a little bit, then take her out of the bath & pat her bottom dry, the let it completely air dry. Once completely dry apply Hydrocortisone to the rash area. Remember to change her frequently & discontinue diaper rash ointments or other creams, just use the hydrocortisone & you can also put another layer of petroleum jelly onto of the cortisone. This works for my daughter everytime. I don't ever buy diaper rash ointments anymore. Hope it helps you as well.
Mix (in equal parts) cortisone, clotrimazole (antifungal, by the athelete's foot stuff), and neosporin. Apply at every diaper change. You should see improvement in hours, cleared up in 2 - 3 days.
Milk of magnesia (I used just the Walmart brand not name brand) and A&D ointment. Mix them together to make a paste. It really works well for my son who if I don't change him as soon as he goes he skin breaks and bleeds.
Also cornstarch works great. And AVEENO Baby Oatmeal Bath is wonderful.
Good Luck, M.
You should talk to your pediatrician again. Both of my kids get a secondary yeast infection whenever they get diaper rash (normal yeast on the skin invades the inflamed tissue). If you don't address the yeast, you won't get rid of the diaper rash. I also use destin overnight extra strength that contains 40% zinc oxide (purple color on the box) on top of the nystatin. Nystatin is a prescription. Muy ped's nurse prescribed it for my kids. Whenever my kids get a hint of diaper rash I apply it at every diaper change, followed by what seems like 2 lbs of desitin. -jm
my daughter had a bad rash/ infection when she was smaller and the doc suggested mixing equal parts lotrimin a/f and hydrocortisone cream...definately helped clear her up...may help
Sit her in a bath with baking soda, it will help to neutralize the rash a little bit and soothe it. I also use Dr Smith's on my daughter, it comes in a little pot. It's a little pricey, but it works way better then Desitin ever did, for me anyway. Hope it helps!
There is an ointment by the name of Dr. Smith, it works wonders!!!!
Hi K.. I use to use just plain cornstarch on my son KC. He use to get a worst rash with any rash cream.
Try something with lotramin (not sure on spelling), she may have yeast.
I highly recommend Dr. Smith's. It is the best.
dR. sMITHS BUTT PASTE IS THE BEST!
Try triple paste and Dr. Smith's cream. Put the Doctor's Smith on first then coat with Triple Paste it works wonder's there is also a prescription called NuZon you can get from your doctor. My daughter had the same virus for around 14 days and it was horrible her little bottom was bad so I used the medications above and finally got a precription and it was gone within a couple of days. I also stopped bathing her with scented soaps (I used Aveeno for diaper rash) and only cleaned bottom with warm wash clothes when changing her diaper. I think the wipes made it worse on her.
you should try butt paste, ive used it for my children and it works great
Try mixing equal parts calamine lotion and monastat cream (the walmart brand is just as effective and less $). It should likely clear up in a matter of days. It cleared up my nieces perineal area even when it was so bad she had huge blisters!
Good luck and God bless!
It's a yeast infection, most likely. Try using some topical Monistat (Walmart has a brand "Equate" that is under $5 for a nice sized tube). It is safe to use externally on your little one and WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!
I highly recommend Dr Smith's ointment. It is carried at HEB and costs more, but is worth it. It should clear up a rash in a day or 2. I have used Desitin and all the other cheap brands and they are not worth buying. Try Dr. Smith's - it's even made in San Antonio!
The only thing that has REALLY ever worked for us was Aquaphor. I discovered it when I had a sample one time and use it all the time now. It seems to help those nasty red diaper rashes better than anything else. I hope your dd finds some relief soon!
I guess we are not suppose to use it but I think that mostly a real infant. Anyway, one of my customers used just plain baby powder that obsorbed the wet and she started to clear up. They told her it was a yeast from being wet. There is something women use too for yeast and I cannot remember it. Ask pharmacist. But that powder really helped a lot. Poor things are miserable and they tell you to wait that is not exceptable, unless the results will be here today. G. W
Is she taking an Acidophilus supplement? If not, I would start with that. It sounds like her digestive system is all out of whack and adding some probiotics/good bacteria to her gut will really help. Is she taking antibiotics?? I suspect that she's got a yeast infection instead of or in addition to a normal diaper rash. Whenever I've had to deal with a yeast infection, I always use a combination of Clotrimazole and Boudreaux Butt Paste. I put a layer of Clotrimazole on first and then a thick layer of the Boudreaux. I see a dramatic improvment from this in about a day. Good luck!
we have found the best thing for diaper rash is corn starch. i love the burt's bees "dusting powder" (their version of baby powder) and the burt's bees diaper rash cream -both are GREAT for clearing up bad rashes FAST. use the cream on the rash when it's really bad, and then keep putting the powder in the diaper once it starts to heal and to prevent. it has corn starch in it and enough to work. you can also just use corn starch alone in the meantime and it works very well. also - if your daughter is prone to diaper rash, you might consider cloth diapers. we switched and LOVE them - check out bumgenius.com - cloth diapers are NOT what the used to be!
Go to Target and buy some Aquaphor (the pharmacist can help you find it if you can't locate it by yourself). It comes in either a tube or a container. This stuff was amazing for diaper rash on my two little boys. It looks and feels like vaseline and if you just coat their little bottom with it (use a lot) every time you do a diaper change, it will be gone in no time!
sounds like it might be easy to fix. as mother of 2 girls grandma of 2 boys 2 girls. also nurse aide 20 yrs. buy plain yogurt and use like a diaper cream. also if you can find it and she will eat it get baby yogurt. all those antibiotics are causing yeast. try it see what you think hope it does the trick. Hello,
I had a similar problem with my son and his doctor recommend "Dr Smith" diaper rash cream. It is about $9 a tube but worth every penny. Hope this helps. :)
We use Grandma El's Diaper Rash Remedy. You can find it at their website www.grandmaels.com . It is great and clears up our son's diaper rash within a day or two.
Hope this helps.
Air. Her privates need air to dry out and heal. This may also get her started on the potty training.
This old remedy works every time. I usually use Destine (40% Oxide) and it works. But, when my boys have a really bad rash and Destine doesn't work I usually do the following- I give them a bath, pat the rashed area dry and with a cotton ball soaked in warm water and baking powder I gently pat the rashed area. I always let their bottoms air dry once i'm done. Let your daughter run around without anything on for a few minutes. Hope that helps. Hopefully by now the rash is gone, but try this next time. This is the only thing that helps fast. Also, give her a bath and do this more than once a day, especially after a dirty diaper.
probably the antiabotics is a major factor with the diaper rash, but have you tried taking a little flour, browning it lightly, then cool and sprinkle it on her. I have found that this works really well with my great gran son.

Tried and true. Skip all the fancy stuff and just get regular Vaseline.
If you allowed the doctor to prescribe antibiotics for the infections than the chances are the diaper rash isn't a diaper rash but rather a yeast infection. Coat her bottom with yogurt and consider giving her some probiotics (get them at the health food store) becuase if she's been on antibiotics this young the stage is set for not only chronic yeast infection problems but also increased risks of asthma, allergies and intestinal issues.
In the future try to avoid antibiotics for minor ills like viral infections which do not respond to antibiotics and ear infections whichstudies show usually clear up within the same amount of time whether you use home remedies or prescribed meds. Try garlic infused olive oil in the future and consider adding some infection fighting essential oils like tea tree oil and lavender (http://yournaturalessentials.com/InfantAromatherapy.aspx)
