I have been using a diaper champ for 5 months, and it really smells now. What diaper pail would you guys recommend? Also, I live in an apartment complex, so no garage...and live far from the dumpster..so I can't run outside each time.

What can I do next?

We use the diaper champ and have for 2.5 years. We wrap the poopie ones (and once the poops got dumpable, we dumped them in the toilet before wrapping the diaper in a plastic bag). We get the bags at the dollar store in the baby section...one box lasts a long time. You could also put a box of baking soda or something in the bottom of the pail.

We dump a little baking soda in the fresh bag when we change the bags out. It cuts the odor quite a bit and it's not terribly expensive.

I love my Diaper Dekor Plus. No smelly--ever. It's 3 years old now and the pedal you step on to open it is cracked. We are having a new baby in a week and a new Diaper Dekor is one of the only things I wanted. We got it last week and the new one has an improved pedal, so it should last longer than this one will be in diapers!

We had pretty good luck with the Diaper Genie.

We use the odor control bags, b/c let's be honest, I'm lazy about changing the bag in there, and it does help a bit. I think Glad makes them and they even have vanilla scent. I also put one of those car air fresheners (shaped like a tree) in the bottom of ours. I got a six pack at Target for a dollar.

Hi M.,
We've had our diaper champ for almost 3 years now. We finally figured out that dumping the poop into the toilet was a better option. Then when it starts to smell a little, we take it outside, spray it with lysol and let it sit in the sun all day (it does need the sun, not just being outside)....and it really helps.

Good luck,
R.

I would suggest washing it out with Dawn or Joy oder eraser. We had a diaper champ & loved it until it started to stink. Then we realized that we had been craming diapers in it & the seal had gotten pushed out & had fallen into the bag. It got thrown away with the diapers. Open the lid & see if the rubber & silicone seal is still around the plunger thing. This was 7 years ago, so they may make them differently now.
God bless!

I, like everyone else, hate the diaper pail. I got those little trash bags that are made for disposing of diapers. You just stick in in there and tie it up. Of course if you leave it in the trash for very long it might start stinking, but if you are anything like me and my family we take the trash out once a day anyway. We bought the top of the line diaper pail and never used it even once.

We've been using the Diaper Dekkor for 18 months and have had good luck with it. Yes you have to buy the special refills but in 18 months we've only had to buy one refill pack (in addition to the ones that came with it).

I never used one, waste of money, just one more thing you have to clean. I just dumped the poop into the toilet and flushed it away. I would put those diapers in a bag in my garage and put the pee diapers in the trash bucket in the house.

I have had great luck with the Diaper Genie II. You have to get the II, the first one doesn't work as well, you can still smell the diapers, but the II works great. I have a daycare, so lots of smelly diapers during the day. The refills are about $5-6, but are really easy to change out and really block the smell well. Also if you can't get a new pail, if you clean the pail with chlorox wipes and spray with airfreshner or febreeze it helps with the smell also.

My husband and I have two boys, ages two and 6 months... lots of diapers! We put the pee ones in the regular garbage can and the poop ones tied up in a regular plastic bag, either in the garbage can, on our back steps (leading down to the garbage can outside), or in the garbage outside. We try to flush the poop down the toilet if we can, but they often have very mushy poop so it doesn't work too well.
Good luck!

The Diper pail YUCK!! I hated mine. I always put the poop dipers inside a wal-mart type plastic bagand tied a knot in it. If it was still bad after the first bag I would put it inside an other one and tie a knot in it. That seemed to work just fine.

Dump the poop in the toilet. If you read on the box of diapers it says to do that anyway. It is better for the environment, and your child's room will never smell!

Try cleaning it, then spray with Lysol. I really think that all pails will smell after a while, so I wouldn't go buy another one. ls

Have you tried cloth diapering so that you dont have to have a stinky diaper pail? check out this site to find them...www.healthybabyboutique.com. Trust me they aren't the old fashioned diapers with pins anymore!! We are talking velcro, snaps, flushable liners, etc. In fact there are flushable diapers on there also!!

Hey, have you tried spraying Febreze in it and airing it out for a few minutes when you empty it? Seems to work with ours. I would think any diaper pail would have this issue after awhile. Good luck!

I would put ours in the out in the sun and it works! I also put a dryer sheet in the bottom every two weeks and that helps too.

I had the same problem. I got the Diaper Champ at the recommendation of friends, and within 4-6 months it was SO stinky. Putting the poops in the toilet wasn't really an option...my daughter had quite mushy poops when she was younger...I finally broke down and bought the Diaper Genie II and won't use anything else...I love it (as much as you can love a diaper pail! LOL) I hate the fact that I have to buy refill bag things, but it works so well that I think it's worth it. You can find them on sale and stock up.
It turns the diapers into a sort of "sausage" that you can tie off and cut without smelling much stink. Nothing is "stinkless" I don't think...but this one really reduced the problem. I also think that after a lot of use, they all have problems with the "air tight seals" they all boast about...but I'd give a thumbs up to the Diaper Genie II (I think it's called the Elite now...who knows...but I think they work the same...no fancy twisting...just push the diaper thru the "mouth")
Good luck!

I have a diaper pail too, not the same kind and it also smells after a while. I usually open it and put it out on the deck for a few hours and then it's fine. You could also put a little cup of baking soda in the bottom.

We have a Diaper Genie II...we've been using it since my oldest daughter was a baby 19 months ago, and now that we have a 2 month old also we are still using it for both of their poopy diapers. I never have a problem with it smelling, even if we don't empty it for a while. Plus it's REALLY easy to use. We even had it in our bedroom when our new baby was first home b/c she was sleeping in our room and our room never smelled. A little tip in case you aren't already doing this...put the wet diapers in another trash can and the poopies in the Diaper pail...it will save you a LOT of money on refills! Good luck! :)
