I used to have the same problem with my kids. With child number 4 of 7 I learned that only pampers are worth a darn anymore. That is all I use now and we are dry every morning. Good luck.
My 2 yr old son's diaper leaks every night. I have tried a couple of brands of diapers & do not know what to do short of having to wake him up & change him. He usually wakes up all wet & I have to change his pajamas when he otherwise would still be sleeping. Any ideas? What are the best brands of diapers for this etc?
Thanks to all the helpful advice, apparently this must be a common problem! Well so far I have tried a couple of the ideas. I can't go up a size as many moms have suggested since he wears a 6 already (even though he just turned 2 he's a big boy @ 37lbs). I have had the best luck with Luvs even though they leaked just a little. I am going to look for those doubler pads & move on to the rest of the ideas if that does not work! Thanks so much again!

Hi -
I switched my kids to pull up goodnights at night when diapers weren't cutting it anymore. They seem to hold more. I also cut off liquid intake around 7pm. Good Luck
I stand by Walmart's White Cloud brand. We have twin 3 year olds and we've used those diapers the majority of the time and typically do not have the leaking problem.
My boys have graduated to pull-ups at night but one thing I would suggest is cut back on the amount of milk you're giving at night - I don't think that a full 8 oz of milk before bed is needed anymore at 2.
Good luck.
Hi! I am sure you will hear lots of tips/brands/etc., but for me, both of my girls leaked with EVERY single brand at night- except LUVS. Seriously, even the expensive leakguard type-it didn't matter. For some reason, LUVS was it- and they have a money-back guarantee! Good Luck!!
when my son's diaper did this, we would switch him to the next size bigger and that usually took care of the leaks. don't know if that'll work for you, but it did for us. good luck. C. A
I've always used Pampers and with my boys, I put a maxi pad in them. Just buy the cheap ones at the dollar store, but it gives you enough extra "room" for absorbancy. Good luck!
We have an almost 3 yr old boy and for the past year and a half we've used Huggies Overnights. They have worked for us and our son loads a diaper at night! He still has a wet morning occasionally, but rarely since using those. Good Luck!
I had this same problem and wrote a letter to the Huggies company after using the normal huggies for years. They suggested using the overnight diapers or overnight pull ups. I know my little boy was to small for the pull ups but they work really well. I love the overnights and if I change him right before he lays down (after story time and cuddling) it does the trick. They have been the only thing I could find that would work. I did NOT have a good time with the Luvs or pampers but atleast the luvs company was willing to give me my money back when theirs didnt work out for us. :) Good luck!
You probably already do this, but make sure to change his diaper as the very last thing before he gets put to bed.
I have always used Luvs, and find they are awesome at night-time. I've tried all other brands and for my kids they were the best. I know there are also other "over-night" type diapers, but I haven't tried those.
One other thing that would definitely help is to try cutting down his fluid intake after about 6pm (say if he were to go to bed at 8 or 9), and just reintroduce that fluid during the day if he needs it.
Best of luck!
limit what he drinks starting about three hours before he goes to bed. less than a cup should get him through the night. My son used to do the same thing
I dont think that brand matters. I tried those overnight diapers and they didnt make a bit of differnce. I also tried every single brand out there and I have found that the Walmart brand (whiteclouds) work just as well as the next and they are cheaper. What I did find is that when my son or daughter started leaking it was time to move up a size. You may want to give that a shot. Also, cut back on fluids after dinner. It might be that he is drinking too much. You also may want to try getting him to use the potty before bed. I know 2 is a little young to actually start potty training (espically for a boy), but I would have my son sit on the potty before bed...and after a couple nights he would actually go...just another trick to try. Good Luck!
You should try cloth diapering! Email me if you want and I can help you. They are very easy to use and the only thing that didn't leak for my daughter.

Put the next sized up diaper on him just at night.
The Huggies overnight diapers work good, but what I learned with my son is to make sure that he is done with all drinks at least an hour before bedtime. Then when you put him to bed change his diaper one last time. This solved our problem!
My 2 year old daughter was having the same problem. I recently switched to Huggies Overnights and we have not had an accident since. Good Luck
Have you tried a bigger size? I also like the Huggies Natural Fit (not the regular huggies). They also have some diapers just for night, but we havent tried them. We also have a 2 year old who leakes often at night. I also make sure he has a brand new diaper directly before he goes into bed. Hope that helps, other than that, I dont know what to try!
I had the exact same problem. I have found that Huggies are the best and I also bought the next size up and it seems to be working great. Good luck!! I certainly understand the changing clothes, sheets.....daily LOL....oh, plus I limit his drinking to 1 cup after 7pm and that helped too.
Huggies Overnight diapers in a size larger than he wears during the day.
Have you tried Huggies Overnights? They seem to work for me.
I have always used Luvs. I limit the amount of liquids before bedtime and I do change my daughter before I head off to bed for the nite. That usually works for me.
Unfortunately I have the same problem with my 2 year old boy I have to make sure that his private part is pointing down and I have had the best luck with Huggies. Pampers have been the worst for me.
Hi i was having the same problems with my son with the cheap walmart brand diapers that i tried since they are cheaper and huggies since they run smaller so i put him in pampers baby dry and i love them. sometimes he does still pee all alot and it leaks out if his diapers is completely full. For awhile we used the gerber plastic diaper covers and they worked nice till they didn't fit him anymore, now we just make sure we cut off his liquids at a certain time before bed and it's helped alot. our son doesn't go down till about 10pm so we don't give him anything after like 8:30pm. if he complains he's thirsty we will give him a few small sips of water. he's used to having a sippy cup of milk before bed and that's when he was peeing so like i said we give it about 8:30 and then a few sips of water if he's complaining of being thirsty. i would try cutting off about 1 1/2 hrs before bed. hope this helps
Try giving him a little bit less to drink at night time, and I have found that Huggies work really well at preventing leaks. Another suggestion that I was told and worked for me, is use 1 size larger at night, like if hes in a size 4, try using size 5 at night. I hope it works for ya hun. Good luck!
Ia m so glad you asked this! I have been dealing with the same issue and was getting ready to post my own question!
"diaper doublers" are a lifesaver. You get them at Babies R Us. They are like maxipads that go in the diaper.
For my boys pampers were the worst and luvs weren't much better. Huggies supreme work great. They are a little pricey, but if your only using one at night a package lasts a long time. Good luck!
I know moms who have had good luck placing a maxi pad in diapers at bedtime.
I've always liked luvs, but I would suggest using a bigger size diaper at night. That is what we did and it has seamed to work. Those diapers happen to be huggies, (I got them super cheap) I don't know if the brand has anything to do with it.
Try cutting back on liquids, have you tried huggies overnight pullups?
try rubber pants, you can buy em at walmart in the infants section next to all the baby socks and onesies
A co worker and I was just talking about this same topic this morning. She has a son that is between 1.5 and 2 years of age. He would wake up every day with wet pj's and sheets. She ended up switching to Pampers and she said that they work much better. Good luck
Hi Brekka...I am a SAHM of 2 boys, ages 3 and 6. My 3 year old weighs 41 pounds and is currently in a size 6. He has had no interest so far in potty training. I have tried a few different brands and have found that the White Cloud diapers that Wal-mart sells are the absolute best! I buy them by the box...I believe they are $15.48 for a box of 52 or so which is way cheaper than any others even with a coupon. I was in a pinch last week and wasn't going to get to Wal-mart in time because of a snow storm so I bought Luvs from Hardings. Worst misktake ever..not really but I absolutely despise these diapers and called and told them about it. They are sending me some coupons for a different brand other than Luvs thank god! But, back to the White Cloud brand...they seem to hold about 3 pounds of liquid before soaking through. We have great luck with them and they don't fall apart or the tabs don't rip off like they do on Luvs. It's worth a try! Hope this helps and have a good one...M.
My son did the same thing and I used Pampers.
Huggies have always worked for me but I have girls also. I have also heard that Pampers work well for boys. Good luck!

The best thing that helped with my son at that age was no drinks after 7. It helped a lot and he felt better in the morning because he was not as wet. This was the age that I also started to potty train him and that might have helped.
I've had good luck with Luvs and Huggies Overnight. I get once size too big so there's more diaper to absorb the pee. You could also try limiting his liquids before bedtime. I don't do that, tho, because we live in a dry climate and I like my kids to drink a lot of water. But yeah, try Luvs or Huggies Overnight and get one size bigger than you normally would and see how that goes.
Be sure that when you put his diaper on, that his "equipment" is facing down. Just push it down and hold it there until the diaper is up over it and is holding it in place. I have 4 boys. My husband taught me that trick. And it works. I imagine your son is wet in front. That's why. He's peeing up and over the top of the diaper. It doesn't matter how good the diaper is if the fountain is set to spray over and out. Hope this helps.
Well my kids are 32 & 34 years old. But my mother told me to take a wash cloth and lay it in front of my sons diaper. For a girl you would lay it in the back and front. This adds extra absorption. With disposable diapers I would use 2 washcloths.
With Cloth diapers, my mom told me for a boy twist the diapers in the front, plus use the wash cloth. You have that many more layers of fabric.
I don't know if this will help. But, it worked for me with disposable diapers. I used both.
Good luck
Hugs Mary
We have had the same problem with our 22 month old. What I found that has worked is the Huggies Overnight diapers.
It has been 25 years since I did this, but it worked like a charm. It's called double diapering. In the crotch area of the first diaper rip a patch of the plastic off that area and diaper baby. Then put another diaper over that. Granted, it is alittle bulky at first but works great. No more changing before morning. Hope this is something you might try.
My son who is almost 2 had the same problem and we couldn't find a brand that didn't leak either. We just change him in the night. My husband has been changing him in his crib lately and he hasn't woken up. It's not the most fun answer, but it's a lot better than changing pajamas and sheets often. Val K.
We use Huggies overnights. Sometimes it also helps to go up a diaper size.
Have you tried going up in size? Or even going to pull ups?? Also you might try limiting his liquid intake an hour or two before he goes to bed. Maybe then he wont need to go to the bathroom as much!
Have you tried Huggies overnight diapers? We use them with our 2 year old daughter. I can only find them at K-Mart and Albertson's here. They seem to work great. They start at size 4. I hope this helps.
Hi there. I have a 2 yr old as well and he was having the same problem. I kept switching diapers thinking that was the problem and what I started to do was to stop him from drinking an hour or so before he would go to bed. That way I would do one last change before putting him down for the night. My son is also a heavy sleeper so when I was ready to go to bed I would check his diaper again and change him while he slept. He never even knew what I was doing. Those are my 2 cents on the subject. Hope that helps. I currently use Huggies.
Huggies Overnights!! We have used them for both kids and have never had a problem!!
We had the same problem with our oldest 2. We switched to Goodnights and never had that problem again. We used them up through age 5 or 6 even when they still had the occassional accident.
Good Luck!
C.
My friend had the same problem with her son and she put an insert into his night time diaper. It almost looked like a pad, but it helped.
I would suggest using Huggies Nighttime diapers. We were having the same problem with our son and this has seemed to help. My brother also tried using 2 diapers at once, he was not able to get the Huggies. This helped for him. Good Luck!!!
I also had success with going up a size at night or Huggies overnights. I could only find them at the grocery store.
I had that problem when my boy was about 8 months old, we found that huggies overnights seem to do the trick. He can go straight through the night 95% of the time. Unless he goes poopy then it's a mess. For urine though there has been no problem.
You know my son did the same thing and tried stopping the drinking waking him up.I went through all the name brand diapers and finally a friend send to try the Walmart brand and believe it or not it worked. He never woke up wet again.
Try switching to Huggies Overnights. My daughter is almost 2 and we had the same problem. She is in Pampers during the day and Huggies at night. Since we switched 3 months ago, we haven't had any leaks! They worked great for us! Good luck!
Both my kids would wake up wet in the morning until I started using Huggies Overnights. I haven't had a problem since! Yea!
The best thing we did when our kids went to bed at night was put a diaper doubler in. It goes inside the diaper and even thought it is large (it looks like a pad) my kids never minded having them in. The only place I ever found them though was at Babies R Us. The closest one to us is about 45 minutes away, so I used to stock up on them. They were only a couple of dollars for a large package, very reasonable. We never had any leaking problems after that. Good luck!
One of the best things I've heard of is double diapering, have you tried this? You just put two diapers on! Also, trying to limit what your child drinks an hour or two before bed, and encourage him to empty his bladder before putting diapers and jammies. Good luck!
I would definitely go with cutting down on the liquid's. My son is turning 2 tomorrow and most nights he doesn't even pee in his diaper. I give him a cup of milk with dinner around 7 and after that just a few sips of water if he needs it.
Good luck,
B.
Hi,
Same problem here. I tried Huggies "Overnites" last night for the first time and they worked like a charm (regular - not pull ups). I bought them at Woodmans. They did not have #6, only #5, but the #5 worked on my large, almost 2 year old. I'd like to know if they make a #6 Huggies Overnites. I also have switched to only 1/2 bottle before bed. He hasn't seemed to notice. Good luck.
Hi Brekka,
You've certainly had a ton of responses so this is probably repeating one somewhere along the way but I agree with the moms who said to try a bigger size. For my child, the only diaper he didn't leak through on was the generic Albertson brand.
Good luck! It's never fun to deal with wet diapers, pj's, bedding, etc!
T.
My son is also 2 years old. We buy the cheap diapers and make sure to point my son's "parts" downward to prevent from completely soaking his clothing. We make sure his diaper is completely dry before laying him down for the night. If he wakes in the night, I make sure to change his diaper even if it is just a tiny bit wet. Another thing, our family doc recommends for potty training is to cut-off beverages one hour before bedtime. Maybe you should back off on his drinking before he goes to bed now before potty-training starts and maybe that would help with the soaked jammies? Our son is big "wetter" also. This has helped. Good luck!
Hi Brekka-
When my girls were little I had the exact same problem! It didn't matter what brand of diapers I used because I found 'Diaper Doublers' at Albertson's Grocery Store and they were a miracle! They are an extra absorbent pad that you line the inside of the diaper with and put on the child and off to bed they go!! Granted the diaper will be full in the morning, but the pjs and bedding will be dry!! As they got older, I reinforced them with rubber pants (extra security for me)!! They are great and they really work!! I continued to use them with my granddaughter a nd 3 grandsons when they were little and still in diapers,as well!! Still a miraculous product!! R. T.
My friends told me that if they pee through the Huggies you should sit them on the potty before bed. Try to give more to drink earlier in the day and less before bed. Huggies are the best for leaks though. You may also try those Goodnights pull ups. Those hold a ton!
Hi Brekka~I have gone through two boys with this issue and the best diapers are Huggies Overnights (I think they go to a size 6)! They work GREAT!!! I don't think I ever had one leak and my boys always drank a lot before bedtime at that age. I know it is hard to do(both of my oldest boys loved their bottles before bed) , but try to limit the amount of liquids before bedtime. Even just an ounce or two will probably help, but I understand if this isn't an option. All kids are different. I hope this helps and Good Luck!!!
Buy a size bigger in diapers or maybe even two sizes bigger... that seemed to work for us. I also used the rubber pants over the diaper. Good luck!
I like this question because we were having the same problem and our daughter is no little girl she is almost 3 69 lbs. and 40 inches tall so anyways she would wake in the middle of the nite and we would go thru the hole changing thing too. After trying all different brands we found that Good Nites the Name Brand you can buy anywhere or If u have a Safeway Albertsons, or Baker's where you live you can try their store brand type Its an over nite as well big dark blue bag w/ stars on it called Overnites I believe also i dont know how big you boy is but huggies also makes an overnite that holds up pretty well good luck and i hope this helps...
I used pampers and went up one size for night time. Good luck!
The only diaper brand that didn't leak with my daughter was luvs. You should also check the size, that can affect the leaking too. A too small or too large diaper can leak worse.
Good Luck!
Brekka; Try limiting his fluid intake around a certain tiem in the evening and see if that helps.I had to do the same thing with my youngest son when he was smaller and it helped, and it also helped with my Goddaughters oldest son. Good luck and God bless
My 3 yr old son has had that same problem. I can hopefully help you. The only thing that worked for me was something they call pads. The only place that I have found them is at Babies'r'us. It didn't matter what type of diaper we used he still would wake up in the night wet. So I started putting these pads in his diaper. I tried one and when that stopped working I just had to do more. There was a time we had to use 3 pads in his diaper. It looks like it would be so uncomfortable but, I guess it's better then being wet. As he has gotten older we have been able to reduce it back down to one. He is now 3 and he is potty trained except at night. he still has to wear one pad in his diaper to bed even when we put him on the potty right before bed. Well, I hope this helps you. It sure did me.
I've known people that put 2 diapers on their kids at night to solve this. Also, there are these things called diaper doublers that you put inside the diaper that would help, but they're a bit hard to find. My SIL actually puts a maxi pad inside her son's diapers at night for extra absorbency. I've actually never done any of these, so good luck.
Pampers or Huggies in the next size up, and/or Goodnights. They've worked great for all 3 of our boys!
My son's diaper ALWAYS leaked. After doing some research I found out that Pampers Dry Baby brand are especially made for when the baby is sleeping. Due to their stomach shrinking while they sleep the other diapers don't expand to make up for this difference. I have only had 1 wet night since I discovered this. Good luck.
Okay, so this might not be of much help, becuase I can't remember the name of the product, but I know that you can buy inserts for your children's diapers. They look like pads and you should be able to get them where ever you get diapers. You just lay one of these pads inside their daiper and then put the daiper on as usual. My sister-in-law just told me about them while she was visiting for Christmas, she uses them for he 2 1/2 year old. I'll try to get the exact name, if you want it, but hopefully this will give you a start. :)
I would suggest to stop giving him any liquids about 2-3 hours before bedtime. I prefer Huggies overnite diapers too, or maybe try a bigger size diaper at night? Or plastic covers for your diaper? The extra pad inside the diaper sounds like an interesting idea too?
I have heard of putting on the first disposable diaper then tearing a hole in the outer barrier then putting on another diaper on top.....hope that helps. That way the overage/leaking from the first diaper simply goes into the second one.
Have you tried Luvs? They work great and are less expensive
Have you tried going a size up? I have found that when that happens, I need to go a size up. Also, personally I think Huggies stink. Luvs is ok and pampers cruisers are the best. Also, sometimes I put them on a little crooked. Hope this helps!!
