I use the diaper genie now because I recieved it as a gift, however, with my first son I used the cheaper version which I believe is made by 1st years. Walmart carries it.

What's the best way to dispose of diapers so that your changing area (or any other part of your house) doesn't stink?

I suggest the Diaper Champ. You can get it at Babies-R-Us. This is what I use and it's great cause you can use regular trash bags instead of having to go out and buy the refills. I have never had a problem with it and it never stinks.
The best bet is to find a small trash can with a tight fitting lid & empty every night.
I have a Diaper Champ and found putting the scented trash bags in it helps a lot.
We use the Diaper Champ. I like others like it because you can use just regular trash bags. I like the scented ones. However, of course it's eventually going to smell-you are putting dirty diapers in it. I just clean mine out with pine sol and let it air out once or twice a month.
I have a covered garbage pail that sits right next to our Oreck air purifier. My son and I both sleep in the room with said pail and I never smell a thing. Well, I smell it for a brief moment when the pail is open to put another diaper in, but aside from that there is no smell. I also make sure to rinse the pail once a week with water (soap only if needed) and air dry and then spray Lysol or febreze inside and let that dry before I put the plastic garbage bag into it. Hope that helps!
he best way I have found is this....savae your grocery bags and store some by the place you change your babies diaper. after every change tie the diaper up in a bag and dispose in a single single bag in the garage. At the end of the day put the bag of diapers in your trash
good luck
Try the Diaper Genie. It runs about $30. You can get one at Babies R Us, Target, Walmart, etc. Babies R Us even has several "knock-off" products that are less expensive and use regular trash bags.
We have a diaper dekor it holds alot of diapers and keeps the smells away, I throw out the bags once a week or as it fills up. I found the diaper dekor at Target, I am sure you can find one at Babies R US or even Walmart

I have a diaper genie and all that. And a 2.5 year old. At this point, I throw pee diapers into the regular trash can and I take poopy diapers outside to the trash as they happen. Occasionally, if I get a poopy diaper that is pretty solid and intact, and I'm feeling lazy, sometimes I flush the poop and throw the diaper in the trash (if all the poop comes off). I take the trash out each evening. Using this system, my house does not smell like diapers.
When my son was tiny and I was still using the diaper genie, I would put a diaper in and twist and then untwist and stuff in the next diaper and twist again. Doing that, I used much, much less of the film than I did when I was individually twisting each diaper. And it contained the smell pretty well. With a newborn you probably don't want to take each diaper outside (because they poop constantly!) but when they are older, it isn't such a hassle and I don't have to be grossed out by poop sitting around my house.

I know this question was asked a long time ago but I just joined and thought this might really help. It's simple...I'm sure you shop at Walmart or anywhere else to get the plastic grocery bags. Save those, put the poopy diaper in and twist it and then wrap it over in that same bag and then twist and tie it. If you do this correctly you can put these in your regular trash can until the trash man passes for pickup. Those diaper pails are worthless! You will not smell these if wrapped up correctly. If you're like me, you have a ton of bags and always forget to take back to the store for recycling; now they can be useful. Good Luck!
