Diaper Blow Outs

Ds #2 is prone to diaper blow outs. No sooner had I changed and dressed him this afternoon than he started fussing. Peeled it off to find poo all the way up his back, soaking his clothes and the changing pad cover. Precious little poo was in the diaper. We are using Huggins size 1. He is 2 months old.

Any suggestions re better diapers, diapering techniques or other thoughts?

Cloth is not an option. We live in a coop building with a communal laundry room. Also daycare won't do cloth.

i seem to remember phases where this happened. maybe diapers have improved madly in the intervening decades, but i'm betting babies' butts haven't.
may the force be with you.

B., have you taken steps to address your baby's gassy tummy issues? My milk intolerant baby was prone to blowouts because the intolerance gave him gas, which made his excrements come out with force. Diaper brand/technique/size was irrelevant. Once I got his tummy settled by eliminating dairy, the blowouts also greatly lessened in frequency.

Four babies and I have tried every diaper and it's just something they eventually stop doing. Pampers swaddlers were my favorite when my babies were tiny. I never cloth diapered(never wanted to) but I have never sat next to someone and thought they smelled like poop cause they used cloth.

I've got nothing to offer here in terms of diaper advice but just wanted to send along my good wishes. A newborn is tough in many ways, but you seem to have a wriggler who works his way out of sleepers and who is highly skilled at diaper filling. Add that to your exhaustion and being needed by your older son, and you've got a full day in every way.

There's really nothing you can do about it - they just out grow it eventually - usually within a month or two.
Just get use to having multiple outfits on hand for just such and emergency.
Our son once went through 3 outfits in 20 min.
Every time I had him cleaned up - BOOM - time to start all over again!

Our 7 month old is growing out of this phase now (thank goodness!) since we started giving him some solids. We've found that pampers swaddlers and the Costco Kirkland brand diapers work the best to control it a bit too. I feel for you!!

We always used Pampers. Just had less problems. I'd try other brands it seemed just to save money or someone would give us some, but we always went back to them.
One of our babies had explosive poops. He still does lol. But he's just a gassy child. I think you've mentioned this little one of yours had some gas issues maybe in an earlier question a while back.
That will do it.

It will pass. Once we got ours onto solids, he had more solid poops and fuller ones, and we had less it shooting up back issues.

Good luck :)

ETA: Just read MyNewNickName's response. This child of mine is lactose intolerant too. Good point.

Cloth diapering is so nasty. If you think about it they don't wash them in hot bleach water. So the feces in them permeates the washer and dryer. Then almost every item of clothing you own has stench in the fibers. I hate sitting next to young mother that smells like a dirty diaper. Then I ask questions and almost always they have an infant using cloth diapers.

I suggest you try the next size up and cinch the waist up more. He may not have enough room for it plus if he's on his back it's going to follow gravity.

Pampers that are big enough are your best bet, I believe.
