Hello dear mothers,
For the ones who have had a diagnostic mammo during breastfeeding, do you know or remember if they took views of your whole breast?
Thank you for your answer!

What? A mammo is a view of the breasts, not parts of them.

Have you had a mammo before?
If you have concerns, as your Dr and communicate with the technican.

Yes. Then they often need to follow up with an u/s if there is a particular spot of concern. I had a lump while breastfeeding that wasn't visible on the mammogram due to density and lactation so they did an u/s after focused on just that spot and confirmed that it was a clogged milk duct. It may also depend on your age and risk factors...some docs go straight to u/s if they suspect it's a milk duct or a cyst and you are low-risk for breast cancer.

I see you are still worrying about mammograms while breastfeeding.
Yes they take views of your whole breast (both of them).
They squish one top to bottom, scan you, then squish it side to side and scan you again - repeat same process for the other breast.

Please talk to your doctor about your questions and concerns.
Breasts that are producing milk are often lumpy/bumpy and it's usually nothing to worry about.

Yes, a standard mammogram is of both whole breasts. Follow up mammograms may focus on one side or a particular area.

When they do a mammogram, they take it of the whole breast. I didn't have one during breastfeeding, but get them regularly, and had one taking shortly afterwards.

Yes, do the whole breast. If they can't tell where the problem is, why wouldn't you want to see if it's localized or not? While you don't want to go around getting tons of radiation every day, you also don't want to get anesthesia for surgery every day or take antibiotics every day. But when you need to, in the smallest amount possible, you do it. Warding off bigger problems is much more sensible than being anxious about the small amount of precautionary measures. So, if you wouldn't leave a bad appendix in because of fear of anesthesia or surgical complications, if you wouldn't keep yourself home from work or your child home from school because of a fear that you'd get in a car accident, you don't stay away from proven diagnostic techniques that are safe. Do you actually know of anyone who got cancer from a mammogram or a dental x-ray? Of course not. Get the mammogram, and get some counseling for the anxiety so it doesn't prevent you from doing the right thing going forward, not just for you, but for the next 17.5 years of your child's life in your care. My motto is, all things in moderation - I occasionally eat a hamburger, drink a beer, go to a restaurant where someone else preps the food (although they probably have more safety training than I do), use a weak bleach solution on my stained cutting board, swim in the ocean, cut with a sharp knife and take medication. All of these things have risks, but they are negligible compared to the benefit I get. I wish you happier times.
