My pinkie toe hurts bad. It feels like the circulation is being cut off or something. I get a pins and needle feeling and tingling in both legs. It is very hard to sleep some nights. I went to the dr a few weeks ago and had a thyroid test,B12 test and Iron test. My iron came back low.My thyroid and b12 were fine. I am not sure if a diabetes test was done. I don't remember the dr even talking about it being an issue. I've just read symptoms of diabetes and I have some of them! I called the drs office to ask if I had the test and if not, can I get one. Does this sound familiar to anyone with diabetes? My toe really hurts:(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sheila S I was kind of wondering the same thing!! I live in my flip flops! The nurse called back and said my sugar tests were fine and to see a nurologist. I'd hate to go through all that if that isn't the case. The chiropractor helped a little but it comes back.I am gouing to urgent care since the dr cant get me in and told me to go there. I will let u know what they say. Thanks!

The dr said it doesn't appear I hurt my toe and odd that the flops would be causing so much tingling and pain. I was told to take xstrength Tylenol every 6 hrs until it stops . My appt with the nuerologist isn't until the first week of August! I went to the chiropractor and felt fine for a short while then it started up again. I was just checking into Lymes disease because all I can do is sit and wait and it is a symptom (tingling and pins and needles). I checked into it because I go up north year round and was bit by a tick last year. I did get a pill to take afterwards just incase but kind of ironic. Now do I call the drs office to schedule a Lymes disease test??

I will let everyone else handle the medical question, but I was wondering if you by chance wear flip flops? I actually had something like this going on last year, went to the doctor thought I was having a stroke (or diabetes or heart problems, kidney failure, muscle lacerations, etc.) and discovered that I was wearing my flip flops so much that my toe was actually kind of set in a weird way and the rest of my foot legs were held rigid while I hung onto it as I walked. Good ending in my case, I bought different ones wear the material didn't go between my toes. A couple of months later I was good as new. Now I really hope it is that and not some medical condition, but I'll keep reading up on this. Good luck!!!

Is this discomfort primarily at night? If so, could be RLS. Restless Leg Syndrome. It is not a scary thing, just annoying. There are things you can do to help yourself. Google it and see what you think.

But.........it wouldn't hurt to see the neurologist. If it were me I know I would feel better just getting a real diagnosis.

Suzy:

I'm not a doctor. So I don't know if you have diabetes. However, I do know that looking symptoms up on-line - you can think you have cancer. I'm glad that you called your doctor's office instead of trying to guess.

Pins and needles along with tingling can be restless leg syndrome as well as DEHYDRATION!!! If you are not drinking enough water or getting enough potassium in your system - your muscles will twitch and feel like pins and needles.

The toe hurting does NOT sound like diabetes to me. It sounds like someone who hit their toe in the middle of the night and doesn't know. Or someone who has gout. Gout likes to "sit" in the feet and toes.

Does anyone in your family have diabetes?
What is your doctor doing about your low iron or anemia?
Sounds like you need to go back to the doctor for a full work up again - and get tested for autoimmune diseases as well.

GOOD LUCK!

To me the pins and needles and tingling feeling sounds like Restless Legs Syndrome, I have it as one of my symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

I sometimes have a part of me that hurts for no reason, my hand, a shoulder, a toe, etc., that's also part of the fibro. It's good you're going to be seeing a neurologist.

Throw away the flip-flops! I read an article once where they were called "both a podiatrist dream and nightmare" because of all the patients they brought in with foot problems and injuries. Just Google "flip flops bad for feet" to find many articles on this.

It could be anything, but my understanding about diabetes is that the circulation problems from that are caused by years of problems and not just a sudden thing. If you've ever broken it or banged it hard and didn't know it was broken, it could be acting up. My husband has occasional bouts of gout. Keep talking to the doc, cause you don't want to mess around and not take care of something. Good luck!
