Yesterday I asked if anyone had experience with this DR. My second question is .. My quote for a visit (insurance not covering) for the evulation is $800. Is this normal pricing for a Developmental Pediatrician? Thanks

What can I do next?

E.,
I totally agree with the other responder. We had our eval with ECI today and it was a great experience!!! Try them!

We called Dr. Rios too and got the same quote. After my husband and I discussed it, I called him back to cancel and told him we could not afford $800. He lowered it to $500. We still didn't go. We ended up going to a Pediatric Neurologist in Grapevine (Dr. So) which was covered by insurance. My son was 2 1/2 at the time. We had been with ECI since he was 15 months. We also went to Easter Seals in Carrollton. The plus side to getting a diagnosis from a neurologist, was that the school district could not turn us down for services when my son turned 3 years old and no longer qualified for ECI.

Good luck!

Don't waste any money on this doctor! Don't be fooled by his "good-phony" reviews and elaborate website. He was very uncaring and indifferent. He just wanted to throw out his spill and got irritated at my questions. Then he became condescending . Please find someone who can give you a first hand referral for someone else. I dont want anyone else treated the way we were.

I saw a dev ped (genecov) and it was about that much. They have different rates for with insurance and without.

I was unhappy going to a dev ped. Your child is so young and unless you are planning another one (in which case go to a Ped. Neurologist) I would just do ECI instead.. which is FREE. Their eval was more thorough. Given your child's age, the tests are based on your thoughts and answers. It was not worth it for me. PM me with any questions.

Good luck and god bless.

Curious, what type of developmental pedi are you going too? I saw a pediatric neurosurgeon (speciality) for gross motor delay and the bill was 600+ b/c they are specialized trained people. Our insurance was an 80/20 policy so we had to pay 20% out pocket. Is the 800.00 your out of pocket - or their bill before they bill insurance.

I have several friends who have kids with autism and they say that's how much they pay where they go too. It's unfortunate.

I also went to Genecov when my son was 4 years. I wasn't impressed with what she told us. I recently went to a pediatric neurologist (Miller) who gave us more info. But honestly, the best info we got was from the therapists at Our Children's House Baylor who did his evaluations.

The price seems about right, but check with your insurance. Our's covered the dr becuase they didn't has any dev peds on their list. It ended up costing us only $35 after insurance even though she was out of network.

You didn't say why the need to go to a DP, but I would check other places as mentioned from others. We were with ECI and are now at the Callier Center. The good thing with ECI is that they will see you child more then the 1 or 2 hour visit a DP will. We had a great experiance with them. Worked with them for a 1 1/2 years. We had an OT, speech therapist and developmental service. My son was very delayed in just about everything. There was also a mom's group that met twice a month, which was great. I would at least explore other options. Good Luck and let us know how it is going.
