Had anyone gotta the depo birth control shot??? Long story short I had my last baby last August. (He's a year old now) 6weeks after I had him( october 2013) went to my obgyn for a follower up and told him I had my period a week earlier and was bleeding again. He said about getting the depo shot and it should stop my bleeding. Ok, whatever I thought. It stopped for a few days then I started with breakthrough bleeding. Side effect I thought. Had this and my period throughout to February. My mom kept telling me to go and get checked out. In April I went to another obgyn and told him the same thing and he shook his head and said it was from the shot that was causing the breakthrough bleeding, period that was a week late a few times, weight issues etc. He said there wasn't any to do but either get back on birth control to regulate my periods or let the shot get out of my system on its own time. I was cutting my calories down since September 2013 to lose my baby weight since I wasn't breastfeeding. I lost 2 pounds each month to November. December came and my weight stopped. It has been that way since now. I been counting calories, exercise, cut down on the sugar and carbs and start to take coconut oil and nothing has helped me lose weight. I have low thyroid and been getting my levels checked and all has been good. I don't know if it's the shot still after a year or maybe my hormones are wacked out. I read it can take a year or longer ffor the shot to fully get out of your system. I took one round in October which would be required to get another in January which I didn't. I had my tubes tied and didn't feel the need for it. Had anyone had problems with the depo shot and how long did it take to feel "normal" again? I really regret getting the shot now but can't do anything about it now. The only good is I haven't gained any weight but my weight seem stuck.

What can I do next?

Losing weight just gets harder to do as we get older.
What was effortless at 22 took a whole lot more effort at 32, and at 52 it doesn't seem like all the effort in the world is going to make my weight budge - but I keep trying anyway.
It might be the hormones (with or without the shot) but maybe not.
You just have to find a new 'normal' for you.
In the mean time, keep doing what you're doing, drink a lot of water and walk and go up and down stairs a lot.

years ago I got the shot 3 times total (about 12 years ago). I had spotting every single day I was on it, horrible cramping, 40 pound weight gain, mood swings, and very painful sex. Once I stopped the shot, I did not have a period for a whole year after that. I finally went on the pill for 4 months and got my period back. After that, I never went on any type of birth control except for counting my cycle. Thankfully I had a perfect 28 day cycle and was able to plan both of my kids. My husband had a vasectomy about 7 years ago. I am also hypothyroid and have the hardest time loosing any weight at all.

Okay.

One of the MAIN side effects with Depo is weight gain.

You could starve yourself and you'd likely still gain weight. Stop belittleing yourself and accept this weight gain is not anything that YOU have control over or can lose until the depo shot is gone. You may always have a little extra weight from it.

I don't know anyone that got the depo shot that didn't gain enough weight where they had to go a whole new wardrobe because they couldn't get back down to their old clothes.

It's like taking steroid shots, they put the weight on you and you might never get that weight off again.

You researched and asked a lot of questions about the depo shot so you know the possible side effects. It can be a very successful method of birth control but the side effects can be more than you thought.

I suggest that the effects of the depo are gone after a year of not being on it but I'm not a doctor. I suggest that you ask this question of your gynecologist.
