My husband is enlisting in the army. I am just wondering what the schools are like on the army bases because my kids might end up going to the dod schools on base. If anyone has any information on the army base schools it would be greatly appreciated. The recruiter said that the schools are highly rated but I'd like to know a little mre detail than that.
thanx.

I am a product of some DoD schooling. I LOVED my school(s) in Germany, in fact I associate myself more with my DoD school than with the school I graduated from. There was a great emphasis on college prep and academics. There were also many different extra-curricular activities for students to join. We lived off base, so it was a little more difficult to participate, but as my siblings and I got older, it was easier for us to use transportation provided and available. I would just check into the schools and their statistics and see if they meet your requirements.

I have one friend whose husband is stationed in Japan right now. She homeschooled her children for a long time here in the US, but once moving decided to put her kids into DoD schools. She loves that they are learning the language and that they have transitioned well.

I hope this helps!

I went to base school about 20 years ago I was in elementary school. I loved it. Most of my school age memorys of school are from those schools. And trust me there was a lot of schools. Just be warned your children could be going to several schools. I went to 20 different schools. 6 of those just in 4th grade. But I did love the base schools I went too.

Hi C.,
My husband been in the Marine Corps for like forever seems like.
The bases are great there so much help for the spouse when he is TAD or deployed. As for the schools there good smaller classes than public. Most bases pick your child in front of your house. If you don't live on base most of the time you can't attend the school. you should enjoy the military life. But just remember it hard sometimes, but it's well worth it for you kids they become so well rounded and you meet new people some you like and some you don't
