I live in Chesapeake, but am not opposed to a little travel if I can just find a dentist to take my stepson with SPD to!! His mouth is a huge sensory issue to him, and I'm pretty sure he has a cavity in a back molar. I can't just walk into a dentist with him, and I don't want to traumatize him!! But his teeth need to be cared for, and we don't know what to do. Any ideas for us???

I take my kids to Dr. Plauka's office in Chesapeake. We usually see Dr. Lori. They are all great and very child friendly. The specialize in pediatrics and I know they work with special needs children. It is the best dental office I have been to--We are navy and move a lot so I have been to quite a few. I take my boys to Melvin E Cruser, III. 1209 Independence Blvd. ###-###-####. www.melvincruserdds.com They use the WaterLase for cavities. It is a water laser, no needles, no pain. Unfortunately my boys have had to have several cavities filled each, and they like this way the best. 5 minutes per cavity and you're done. Good luck on finding what works for your family.
I jsut took my son to Beach Dental in Va Beach. It is on first colonial. They were great. My son who is 2.5 actually wanted to go back the next day. good luck.
Have you tried Kool Smiles? They are a pediatric dentist and they are awesome! I take all four of my kids there and they actually love going to the dentist (which is suprising because my 7 yr old son has very bad teeth and he still loves going). There is one in Portsmouth and Janaf in Norfolk for the ones closer to you. Hope it helps J.
