I just had a major shock from my husband saying that we may not send our daughter to the private school she's been at and we may send her to public school...YAY!!!! I am thrilled and freaked out at the same time b/c I know nothing about the public schools here. I think we are in the Kenton/Kipling district but don't know anything about them. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

What can I do next?

I have heard from other parents that the school system in Deerfield is excellent.

What I would suggest is that you call the principal of the school where your children will attend and ask for you AND your husband to visit the classrooms where your children will go. You usually can stay for about 20 minutes per classroom. Tell the principal your philosophy and what kind of teachers you want you children to have and s/he will arrange the visit.

We live in Deerfield, but don't go to Kipling. They are all wonderful schools though. One of the reasons we moved here in the first place was the reputation of the schools. We have had nothing but wonderful teachers. It will definitely be different from private school, but that is to be expected. You just need to have an open mind. Good luck.

I have to say that I think Deerfield schools are fantastic. They constantly rank in the top percentiles in state rankings. My son attends public school in Deerfield and we've been very pleased with everything so far. I have two friends with daughters at Kipling and I haven't heard anything but praise for their teachers. Of course no school is perfect but I think Deerfield has their act together. They offer tremendous support for both special needs and gifted kids and foster "typical" kids' educational growth.

I have a friend who is an administrator at Shepard and I can vouch for her and her colleagues that they work their tushies off! The school system has a lot to offer children and the population of the school is very friendly and warm. I think you will be happy there!

My niece will start at Kipling in the fall. My sister and brother-in-law have visited and are very impressed with the school.
