Does anyone know how to decoupage photos onto Christmas ornaments? I can't make the edges completely flat. Plus I am hating the brush strokes in the finish. My grandma could always make them look so smooth! What is the secret?
Thanks!!

So What Happened?

They turned out great. Here's a photo: http://www.2002music.com/ornament.jpg
I bought glass ornaments from Michael's. They were round but flattened, not spheres. I mixed water with Elmers glue and poured it inside then dumped the excess in a bowl. Dumped in glitter to coat the inside (I used red glitter). Dumped out excess glitter. Then I printed out photos from my computer. On one side of the ornament is my daughter's baby picture and "2003" in text. On the other side a current photo and "2007". I decoupaged the printouts onto the ornaments. Then a couple of coats of Modge Podge and a spray coat of high-gloss. I hid the photo edges with gold beads ($2.99 for 10 yards spool at Michael's). I used wired gold ribbon to make a bow for the top, tied with one cloth rose (26 cents a bunch at Garden Ridge).

Hello Pam, I decopauged my sons dresser with pictures from magazines. I found the best way was to use my fingers. It's a little messy and sticky but it's easier to push the edges down and also to get the streaks out, I used a circular motion. Also, I sprayed clear coat over it after it was dry. Let me know how your ornaments turn out, this sounds like a neat idea!

As far as the edges thing goes I decopaged pictures onto plate and I just made a printer copy of the pictures and used that instead. It was much thinner so worked much better than using the actual photo itself. Just be careful not to tear the picture with too much pressures. You might also be able to use a spray adhesive on the back of it and then clear coat spray over the top?? I would think it would give the same decopauged effect without the streaks???? Let us know! :)

Have you tried using a foam brush? I haven't done this in MANY years, but it seems like we always used the foam ones and we didn't have any brush strokes once it dried.

Hope this helps!
