Dead Spot in Front Lawn

Here's a question to get off topic. I have a huge dead spot on my front lawn. I would say it's about 4 feet by 4 feet. What can I do aside from putting in new grass? It's been like that for a couple of months now. With the water shortage, I now only water every other night. Help!

What can I do next?

Hi M., I use the Miracle Grow lawn feeder every spring, and I treat my lawns about every 4 weeks during the spring and summer months. Last Holiday season we had a large snow globe in our front yrad as part of our lawn display, well after we took everything down we had this big round dead sopt on the lawn fron the plastic siting there, so when it was time to treat my lawuns I concentrated ion the big round spot, and it turned green. I get my lawn food at the Garden shop, either at wal mart or target, I also use the plant food for floweres amd trees and shrubs, igt helps you creat a beautiful yard. J. L.

If it's really dead, it might not come back unless you put down some grass seed and water the spot every day.

Do you water the lawn yourself or are the sprinklers on a timer? If timer, the next time they come on, go out and check to make sure the sprinklers are working properly. That's happened to us a couple of times and we just had to either adjust the head or replace one part. Good luck.

In addition to what Julie L. said... try applying some mulching to that area... to retain the moisture on that patch of grass... water whenever you can... and the mulching should help it keep moist and prevent drying out. And/or, apply some good soil/dirt on that area... thereby helping it to "heal."

And yes, fertilize that area with any general purpose fertilizer.

Also, try not to cut the grass too short... when grass lawns are cut too short... it tends to dry out (quicker) and die... because it can't retain moisture. KEEP the grass clippings on the lawn... because it helps to retain moisture and will biodegrade and then help to give back nutrients to the earth.

A lot of times, grass lawns are cut down too short.. .and this isn't good for the grass. It leaves them vulnerable to drying out more.
