If she likes to sew, I suggest a gift card to JoAnn's Fabric, Hobby Lobby, Michael's or another craft store (less stuff to pack). Or a gift card to a national restaurant chain so their first nights in their new house they don't have to worry about cooking meals. For something special, have your son draw her a picture and put it in a little frame for her to display if she opens a new daycare.

I personally like to give pictures of my kids for her to remember them as time goes by and she moves onto other families that she cares for. I know it's weird to give other people pictures of your own children, but she's likely been a huge part of his life (and him in hers). We usually try to do something with a handprint and a picture + the date to help her remember when it was done.

When I was coaching, my favorite gifts were the ones that were made my the kids (even little ones can make incredible things with handprints/footprints, etc)

www.namemaker.com sells personalized labels and ribbons, they would make a nice gift for someone who sews a lot of things for their own children.
