Ok so my daughters fleece pants are too long by several inches I would like to know if I can just cut them with pinking shears? Will they fray or fall apart? I dont sew and dont know anyone who does and I would like for her to be able to wear them in the frigid temps coming up this week, but dragging a extra 6 inches in the snow makes them pointless. Any advice would be great, we only have thie problem with fleece because it wont stay rolled up as jeans do. Thanks

What can I do next?

You don't even need to use pinking sheers, regular scissors will do, fleece won't fray.

If you still want her to roll them, so she can wear them as she gets taller, you can keep them rolled with safety pins every few inches on the inside of the roll if you don't feel comfortable doing a simple hand sticth.

For my sons I rolled them were I wanted them, and than just put in a stitch on each side to hold them in place. You can do it by hand, no need to know to sew, just need a needle and tread. It held fine, and once he grew I was able to remove it easily so he could keep wearing his pants longer.

I have a few pairs of sweatpants that I have cut off for around-the-house shorts, and they have never frayed. I have had one pair for many years. You might try the other suggestions of pinning the cuff first so you won't have to buy more once she gets a little taller (next year?).

You can cut them but they might curl a little. Maybe get some of that hemming tape and iron it on after you snip?

What I do with my daughters pants if I'm in too much of a hurry to hem them (ie- they are the last pair of clean pants) I roll up the pant legs and then put a safety pin in the inseam and the outside seam. That is quick and if you forget to take them out in the wash, no biggie, you just have to re-pin them. Also you will be able to adjust the hemline when she grows, as long as she doesn't outgrow the waist.

I hemmed my 2 yr old's pajamas b/c they were too long. THEN he put them on and I realized that his crotch area needed to be taken up, not the leg. So now his pjs technically 'fit' him (there's no material on the ground being stepped on) but his crotch area is closer to his knees than it is to his crotch. So IMO, see if you need to roll the legs or roll the waistline. If rolling the legs work, then cut one pair, wash them and dry to see if they fray. If they do, then you could try hemming them by hand. If they don't, then even better!

If it's the poly fleece that's fuzzy on both sides, you can cut it straight across without a problem with fraying. But without the slightly weighted double hem, they could also creep up and expose her lower leg.

How about cutting them about 2 inches long, folding that under, and just using a simple running stitch to create a hem? You'll also be able to let down some of that hem later if she has a month or two of fast growth.
