Daughter Wakes up Crying

My daughter, who just turned a year old, has been waking up crying the past few weeks and I can't figure out why. She used to wake up happy.

This happens for both naps and in the morning. She doesn't wake up at night (sleeps 12 hours) and takes about 45 min-1 hour naps during the day. Once we get her out of her crib, she's fine. The only morning it hasn't happened recently was today. When I went in this morning, she was playing.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Maybe she's lonely...I'm just trying to figure out what's making her so unhappy. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hello Katheryn. My youngest is 8 mo and some times she wakes up and coos and plays with her toes and other times she cries. Generally she cries b/c she is hungry or didn't get enough sleep or is done playing and I hadn't gotten her up yet. Since your little one is a bit older, she might be bored laying in her bed; her toes might no longer be the coolest new toy. With my 4 y/o I had toys in her crib (safe ones) that she could play with when she woke up in the morning. Best of Luck! :)

my son used to wake up crying all the time at that age. I figured out it was because he was hungary. Once I got some juice or somthing in him he would calm down.

I have a twin son who does the same thing, It started around 12 months or so.. he is 17 months, still does it off and on. I have no idea why. Maybe it's "normal" just wanted you to know your not alone in this issue.

I think kids just go in phases. My daughter used to always wake up happy, and then one day she started crying every time she woke up in the morning. I'm still not exactly sure of the reason, but she did outgrow it. I think it was the realization that she was alone and she just wanted to be by us, because as soon as we picked her up she would be fine. I think she started it around a year old as well. Does she have all of her teeth in? If she doesn't, she could be teething still. My daughter had all of her teeth in by the time she was 15 months old, so she could be starting on her molars (or others).

And this too shall pass... =)

My 12 month old does the same thing. Nearly every morning, he's crying when you go in to get. Or if he's asleep, he'll start crying as you wake him up. I honestly think it's a startle reflex. He's startled awake, or just waking up and maybe going thru some confusion. I just pick him up and hold him close, letting him know mama is there. That seems to do the trick.

I'd cry too! I hate mornings. Kids go in cycles with most things. Food, sleep, crying, teething, moods. Until they can express themselves with words or get double espressos they may fuss in the morning.

My children sometimes wake up crying too. I think it might be a drop in sugar level, especially after sleeping/not eating for such a long time, so I try to feed them some breakfast as soon as they wake up. I asked the doctor about it, and he said that could be the issue with mine.

I'd love to work part-time too! Hopefully we can someday. There's a lot of guilt that goes along working full-time, I know!

God Bless.
