Hi everyone,
Our 3 year old has ulcers in her gums and tongue from the coxsackie virus. And over the last few days she's unable to hold her stool. She has been on a mostly liquid diet (soups, yogurts, ice cream) over the last 5-6 days and her stool is almost black with consistency of firm oatmeal. Normally she will let us know when she needs to poop, but lately she can't hold it and it just goes in her underwear. Is this a side affect of the virus and her diet? We've never seen her stool so dark before and usually is quite firm.

Has she been diagnosed by a Dr?
If not, get her to a Dr before this gets more serious than it already is.
There are RX out there that can give relief for her mouth.
Get her in to see a Dr.
Please call her doctor to ask this question! If she hasn't been seen by a doctor make a same day appointment. We are just mom's and can only give our experience which may or may not relate to your daughter's symptoms.
I looked up this virus and learned it can cause a more serious illness. Also, it is very contagious. Call her doctor.
As an adult, I had sores on my tongue, gums and throat. It was a fungal infection that is treated with antifungal medication. If the doctor hasn't made the diagnosis, your daughter must see the doctor.
Liquid diet makes liquid stool. That's not abnormal. When you have liquid poop can you hold it all the way to the toilet? She can't because she's only 3. She's still learning to walk and talk and hold her pee and poop and think through ideas.
The sores should be gone if she's on medication. The black color suggests blood so I'd have her to the doc the second time it came out that way.
