Does she wash her hands often? It helps to wash hands to rid them of
germs carried from outside public places (schools, parks, libraries, malls
etc.).
Multi vitamin to help boost the immune system.
And getting plenty of sleep.

I have a 6 year old that gets colds all the time and when she gets them she is always nice enough to pass them on to me. A Doctor we see for therapy suggested vitamin D3 to boost the immune system. He uses it and it has made a big difference. So I just started about a month ago giving my daughter 400mg - and I am now taking 2000mg every day. She got a cold a few weeks ago but I did not get it. We will see over time how it goes but I did do some research on it and it is very good to boost immune system.
How well is she sleeping? My kids get sick more often if they aren't getting to bed on time. It's noticeably different for my son if he goes to be an hour later for a few nights and gets run down. We also do our best to limit sugar and eat or juice lots of different fruits and veggies. I have also heard that vitamin D and C can really help.
A vitamin, a yogurt a day, a probiotic.
we started getting sick a lot less when we included fruit shakes into our diet. Now we've gone almost completely plant based and so far so good. I'm pretty amazed at our lack of illness in this house especially having started school this year.
She doesn't need to be a germaphobe, but make sure she washes her hands before she eats/drinks and keeps her hands away from her face. Also, make sure she is not putting things her her mouth..pens, pencils, toys, her hair.
You can give her Vitamin C everyday. If you buy the 1000mg, break it in half and give her half in the am and half in the pm. And I would recommend that she get a flu vaccine.
Lastly, have you spoken to her doctor?
Vitamin C tablet seem to help us during the winter season as a child. Didn't get sick alot.
I admit being a germ-phobe. Having said that, I've always taught my DD to keep a safe distance from people and to just not be on top of anyone - you know what I mean. Girls sometimes get overly friendly. We are also a family of hand washers. We wash our hands when we come into our house - 1st thing. We also wash before eating anything. I try to disinfect the door knobs - especially front door - regularly. As a rule, we don't touch our face unless we've recently washed our hands.
I realize nobody can or should prevent every illness but we try to avoid as much as we can as she has asthma and any simple cold can turn ugly fast. DD does get a decent amount of sleep and eats well and exercises.
Be sure she's eating well balanced meals and that she's getting at least 10 hours of restful sleep ach night as well as exercise. Read up on nutrition to see if her diet is healthy. Add a good multivitamin with Vitamin C and a probiotic.
Make sure that everyone washes their hands often. Good idea to have kids wash hands when they first get home. Use tissues and toss after each use. Do not share utensils/dishes when sick.
And be sure all of you get a flu shot.
Personally I think a lot of 'common colds' are allergies so you may want to rule out that possibility. A doctor that actually knows what he/she is looking at when they look up your nose will be able to tell the difference. (With allergies the nasal passages look like saran wrap - with an infection it looks like raw hamburger meat)
I have found zinc and a probiotic tablet can go a long way to boosting your immune system.
I take one zinc tablet daily but do take extra when I am starting to feel sick. Depending on my sinuses I will also add 1 REAL Sudafed every 4 hours. Within a day or so I feel fine again.
I was just reading an article that when kids go through a growth spurt (which can certainly happen at 13), their immune system is compromised since the body is diverting all of its resources to growing.
This might be what's happening. I also notice that my dd seems to have years when she well all year and years when she's sick a lot. I'm guessing that her immune system builds up when she gets sick and then she'll have a good year since she's built antibodies during the sick times.
Once summer goes away that's when everyone starts getting sick. It's because were not getting sun. I bet her vitamin D3 levels are low, which contributes getting sick. You should have her blood levels checked. I would start giving her 5,000 units a day of vitamin D3. I get the liquid drops from the health food store. I also give my kids a probiotic and whole foods vitamin C with spirulina every day. You can get it at the health food store. When I feel sickness coming on, I start taking 1000 mg of C every 3 hours until either diarrhea hits (I've never even had that happen), or the symptoms go away...and they always go away within 24 hours. I do this for my kids too! I also chug lots of water and make my kids do this as soon as they feel sick! There is also a wellness formula you can buy at the health food store or online. My husband use to get sick twice a month and be down each time for a week. He started taking the wellness formula at the first sign of illness and he hasn't been sick now for almost 2 years. It's amazing!
