Grrrr. I successfully warded off sunburns in all my kids for six full years since their births with diligence. So what happens on DAY ONE of their visit away from home to grandparent's first time ever with just their dad? Despite my plea that ALL I ASK is that they are careful in the sun about sun block with all the outdoor stuff planned? Yup. My daughter gets a severely sunburned nose. I picked her up from the airport today and 7 full days after sun burn, it's still very painful, bright red, and peeling. It's a bad burn. Fortunately only on her nose. Fortunately the other two kids are burn free.

So. There is nothing I can do now. Please reassure me her nose is not permanently damaged to be prone to cancer when she's older. PLEASE. :( And if anyone has advice for best natural cream to put on a bad peeling sun burn..I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I got an awful sunburn on one of my shoulders as a kid - it was practically a second-degree burn, blistered and scabbed and everything. It's now been 30 years and I am still fine. You can try aloe, or maybe silver sulfadiazene cream (good for burns of all kinds), since it helps with healing and to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

She will be fine. I have had many a bad sunburn.
Put Aloe on it. It you have an aloe plant you can break, that would be best. If not they sell Aloe at the grocery store.

I am very fair and burn easily. We always used Noxema to cool a sunburn. As I got older, aloe worked too, but Noxema *felt* better. If one sunburn caused cancer, I would have died long ago. We didn't even HAVE sunblock when I was kid! In any case, keep the skin moisturized, because the dry peeling skin itches. She'll be fine, if a little uncomfortable for a while.

I have burnt my nose pretty badly in my youth and I am alright. We always slathered on the vinegar. It stinks to the high heavens, but it gets the burn out by the next morning.

Aloe Vera...I'm not a doctor but one sunburn is not going to bring on cancer.

The links says that five or more sunburns increases the chances of skin cancer.

If you have baby sunblock, use it now! Likely, other sunblock will work as well - seems the baby version was a bit thicker a lotion. It sounds odd, but it will help - tho I'm not sure how much if she's been burned for several days. That is all I use here - and I'm now raising a grand-girl! (this trick came to us when we were out w/o any other thing like aloe - and seemed to work better than the aloe when we got it later)
