I am looking for info. I had 2 d&c's and an endo ablation and i am still bleeding. I am trying to decide if a hysterectomy is my only option as norethindrone doesn't agree with me (acne, weight gain, upset stomach) has anyone out there had similar issues? I've alway had bad periods, but it is out of control now. I only have one ovary left and it seems to be working lots of overtime.

What can I do next?

M.,
Sign up for hystersisters.com - an amazing online resource. I had a hysterectomy in June. They left my ovaries. Mine was a vaginal hysterectomy. I spent 1 night in the hospital. It was easy! And I have no bleeding now!

Thanks
R.

There is a wonderful book called The Hysterectomy Hoax by Dr. Stanley West. He outlines many of the reasons women end up with hysterectomies and possible alternative solutions.

There is no doubt that many many women have ended up in a better health sitation for having one, but there may be a less drastic approach that will net the same result. One of the reasons Dr. West is against hysterectomies is research that concludes a greatly incresaed risk of heart disease for women who no longer have a uterus.

I battled fibroids and horrible bleeding for years, and the thing I learned was to take everything my doctor said and put the words "In my hands" at the end of it. If your doctor does not specialize in what the condition is that is causing you to bleed so much, then that doctor is probably not the best one to treat you right now. I'd suggest finding the best doctor your insurance will cover and get an opinion from her/him.

Good luck to you!

My sister-in-law was having alot of bleeding and her dr suggested the iud mirena. They are still waiting to see if her insurance will pay for it, but I have one in for birth control purposes. I used to have really heavy periods and now I barely get them, if at all. I did spot alot for the first six months or so, but nothing compared to my periods. May this is an option for you?

I guess I'm late in responding but I had the edimetrial ablasion done with no success so I eventually had the hysterectomy. I was 34 when I did that. Best thing ever! I was bleeding for 10 days, had 10 days off and then bled for 10 days.. it was awful. I still have both my ovaries though. I only had a full hysterectomy, not a radical. I would talk to your doctor. If you don't need all the parts, why keep them? =)

Good luck!

M.,

I am 50 and had the same issues, I had a hysterectomy, but they left my ovaries it was the best thing for me! The doctors (and there where many) tried just about every drug, nothing worked.

I suffered with the same issues you have and was miserable every single month.
I put off the idea of a hysterectomy for years because of fear and a whole laundry list of reasons.
I finally had the last straw when i was 44 and spent 4 days basically changing pads and double tampons hourly.
I had the surgery about a month later. When I had recovered I could not believe the change in how I felt-I really was a new woman, I never realized how bad I had felt my whole adult life until then. I just assumed how I was was how it was supposed to be. I couldn't have been more wrong. I kicked myself for not having the surgery earlier.
I realize any surgery should not be undertaken without serious thought, but if you have tried every other solutions with no positive outcome, then perhaps it is the right thing for you to do.
I know I was never sorry I had it done.

Have you looked into nutritional support and supplements as part of your treatment? There are many natural options as far as that goes.

I had a Kryoblation (sp?) a few years ago & no more bleeding! The freezing was a bit painful, but it worked.
