Hello S. -
Check your son's eyelid and determine if the stye is at the edge of the lid or deeper inside the lid. If it's at the edge, it's a stye which can be solved through warm (not hot) compresses used a few times a day. Another thing to try is use a little baby shampoo on a q-tip to clean the eyelash area if it seems like it's a little crusty. If it's deeper inside the eyelid, it's a chalazion. I know this because during pregnancy and afterwards I had a chronic case of them, four surgeries later, I found a cure. I started to take TheraTears (found at CVS) that contain flaxseed oil and fish oil. This changed the viscosity of the oil glands and allowed them to drain. (Hormones were the culprit in my case)I had to take TheraTears for at least 4 months to see results, but when I got pregnant again, I immediately began taking it and no chalazions again. I would take your son to Dr. Lois Townsend in Plymouth - she is a pediatric opthamalogist and is wonderful. She's operating on my daughter's clogged tear duct next month. Good luck! E.
