Parties for a 1 yr old is an adult party because the child has no concept of what is going on.
That said.. have fun with a more adult theme, beer garden sounds fun!
I thought an Alice in ONEderland party would be cute but a friend of mine beat me to it :( any other cute ideas? For a little girl btw.

We had a monster theme for our older son and held the younger sons first birthday at an indoor carousel. Best first birthday party I know of was held at a beer garden. It’s really not about the kid anyway.
Party is for the adults at that age. (I mean that in a nice way - nothing wrong with it!!)
"Hole in ONE" at a miniature golf place?
Or just some drinks and snacks someplace.
I know of a first birthday party in New York City that is happening at a very swanky place with open bar, lol. It's for the parents' friends really.
I'm totally not into theme parties (especially not for a 1 year old). That being said, what about "She's a wild 'one'?"
For my son's 2nd birthday we did a Sesame Street theme that was sponsored by the number 2 and the first letter of his name.
One in a Minion. We did that for Valentines Day once. We used Twinkies and made Minion Goggles and said, "Valentine, you're one in a Minion."
Watermelon theme. One in a melon
Twinkle twinkle little star. One year old is what you are!
I love the beer garden idea lol fun.
I think one of our first girl birthdays was a fairy theme (but for slightly older - when she could remember it). It was very sweet. You can keep it really simple.
Lots of good ideas on Pinterest.
You'll find tons of cute ideas on Pinterest. I like fanged bunny's beer garden party idea LOL!
How about “it’s a ONEderful Life”. Maybe do a Christmas theme?
Have fun!
I am not sure what is meant by a theme, what you decide to do about a cake decoration, I assume? I would go with something cute. I had baby blocks with her age on display, or you can have some blocks that spell out her name, a teddy bear, or some other toy she likes. I'm sure your local bakery can make a design out of pretty much anything you propose.
So what if your friend had the same theme? There is no law that says you can't...
There are so many cute ideas when you google it. I would also be cautious of a theme that may make people think to buy something related (Mickey Mouse or Winnie the Pooh theme may invite tons of that clothing and toys with these characters).
The very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle is a personal favorite since it has a lot of primary colors and a butterfly. This makes cute cakes/cupcakes and decorations. I also like this because this may be the last year you can do gender neutral for a while. I had had a lot of girly themed parties for preschool-elementary. That being said, I still had a lot of pink for my daughter's first bday.
Alice is Wonderland is great for any age. I have seen it used for older girls (10 years old) to have a tea party.
ask your child what she likes and go with it.
What does your 1 year old like?
My son loved fire trucks when he was 1 so I made him a fire truck cake. :)
Cat in the Hat
Peter Rabbit
Little Bear
Circus
Does she like animals? A certain cartoon? A certain toy?
Have fun deciding!
