Hi moms,

I just came down with my 5th cold of the season. Despite my best efforts I get EVERYTHING my daughter brings home! Are there any products out there that actually kick the common cold? I've tried quite a few things, but my last few colds have lasted close to 2 weeks.

Ahhhhhchooooo!

What can I do next?

Google oil of oregano. It has changed my life this year. I was taking antibiotics 3 to 4 times a year. I only had to take them once this year because I was taking it daily as an immune booster. You can get it in capsules or liquid form & can get it at GNC or any vitamin store.

I swear by home made chicken soup. The more veggies in it the better. I add Onion, celery, parsnip, carrots, broccoli, peas and chunks of butternut squash. It is delicious and I think all the nutrients and vitamins in the soup help kick the cold a little bit faster. Hope you feel better.

I start using a neti pot and salt water gargle at the first sign of a cold, and continue at least 3xday until symptoms subside. Doesn't prevent the cold, but makes it milder and shorter. Extra vitamin C has been shown in studies to help, too.

I agree with the chicken soup idea. I make a home made chicken noodle soup and we swear by it.

At the same time, if I feel something coming on I use Airborne. I swear by that as well. I am at the school often subbing and I've not caught any colds or flus this year. I also use probiotics. I love Danavtive, I get it by the case at Costco (24 bottles for $11). I drink at least 1 daily.

My issue is allergy and sinus and for that the best thing that works for me is the Nasal rinse

Good luck and maybe you'll find your magic potion!

I haven't found a cure for the cold, but here is what I do to shorten it.

As soon as I feel sick I take 3000mg of vitamin C. Then I take zinc losenges like Cold-eeze or a generic brand. I continue that day taking 1000mg of vitamin C three more times, and the zinc as recommended as well. The next day I also take 1000mg of vitamin C 4 times that day and continue with the zinc. I also avoid candy and sugar because sugar decreases the immune system. I am a big believer in green tea with honey (the only sugar I allow myself).

I also take a look at my life and see if there has been any unusual stress. Stress=getting sick.

The last time I got a cold I did this and it only lasted 2 days.

When you're not sick I recommend Emergen-C. You get it in packets at Target or the grocery store and mix it with water. Take at least one to two a day, that will boost your immune system! I also love Emergen-C because I take it to restaurants and mix it with the free glasses of water. You don't have to buy a drink and you know you're getting your vitamins along with a tasty (free!) drink! I love the pink lemonade flavor!

This cold/flu season has been horrible, hasn't it? We all got our seasonal flu shots, plus the H1N1 shots, yet we've spent all winter sick with every other stupid bug that's come around. It seems like as soon as I get everyone in our family healthy, someone gets sick and spreads it to everyone else again.

I don't have any answers, but am curious what answers you get. Maybe they will help me, too. Right now I'm pounding Robitussin and Mucinex and wrapped in a blanket. Bleh.

When I feel a cold coming on I drink LOTS of water. I'm talking 90 ounces in one day. Believe it or not, that is usually pretty effective in kicking the cold. And when I do get the rare cold it doesn't seem to get as severe or last as long when I drink a lot of water for the duration. Pair this with catching any extra sleep you possibly can and maybe it will help?

My husband used to get colds that just wouldn't quit with a cough that would linger for weeks. Now he drinks a product called MonaVie and his last cold lasted 3 days. (I can't get him to drink the ridiculously large ammounts of water like I do! : ) If you are interested in this product let me know and I'll get you some more info. Or you can go to www.monavie.com.

I've had a cold for the past 3 days and it's almost gone. I am taking Tylenol Cold Head Congestion day/night tablets and drinking lots of water. Aside from the capsules, I use my NetiPot twice a day to rinse my sinuses and at night, I put pillows under the head of my mattress to stay elevated so that my sinuses drain downward at night. A few months ago, I heard on the radio that if you feel a cold coming on, take Zicam as soon as you can and it is suppose to shorten the duration of the cold. I tried Zicam a few months ago when I felt a cold coming on, but it didn't work for me--that cold lasted over a week. It may work for you though, but I just went with the Tylenol and the NetiPot this time.

I hope you feel better:)

They are flat out fabulous and backed by EVIDENCE BASED RESEARCH (also supported by renowned Pediatrician Dr. William Sears and son Jim Sears of the popular show "The Doctors") that they improve the immune system. More great news is that you can get it FREE for your child (between 4 - 18 yrs) when you add JuicePlus+ whole food capsules to your diet! Such a deal!

Please check out my website www.vineripejuiceplus.com (a picture is worth a thousand words) or feel to contact me for more info ... it would be my pleasure!

I love to take Advil cold and sinus at the first sign of a cold. I work on a school bus but I hardly ever get sick. Fortunately, my kids went through the entire winter without being sick. I just spray the bus seats down with a disinfectant at noon and then at the end of the day. I also take vitamins and probiotics. I also give my kids probiotics along with their vitamins. It seems to work and sometimes prevention is the best remedy.

Hi A.,
I used to get sick alot before I started taking Shaklee vitamins. Now it is rare. Their echinacea product greatly shortens flus and colds. It is a soft tab that can be used as a lozenge that will know out a sore throat almost immediately. They can be crushed to make a tea, or just swallowed.
NutriFeron boosts the immune system. You can read about these and their other products at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife
Hope you are better soon.

Hi A., We are never sick and take a liquid vitamin/mineral suppliment that costs about $1 per day. I can sit here and try to explain it but really you just need to see it for yourself since you wouldn't believe it otherwise! http://www.yummyliquidvitamins.com My daughter is 10 and has only missed 2 days of school...ever! And it's been YEARS since my husband and I have had the flu. Check out the website, take the tour and let me know if you have any questions!

Boost up your immunity by taking vitamins and probiotics. You can look for foods that are high in probiotics, like yogurt, but I suggest taking supplemental probiotics. Florify probiotics are great supplements and VERY affordable, compared to others on the market.

Also, I am a BIG proponent of chiropractic adjustments for everyone, including infants. I have been seeing a chiropractor for years and totally believe in the benefits of chiropractic care. I got adjusted during both my pregnancies and my children have been adjusted since they were days old. We have given our chiropractor the title of our primary family physician and we see him before we go to the medical doctors (that’s how much we respect his expertise!). If you go this route, be sure that you see a pediatric specialty chiropractor for your kids…there are chiropractors that will adjust infants and children without specialized training and it may not be a good experience.

Thymunose from Anabolic Laboratories. It is vitamin C with thymus and herbs. I take it right when I start feeling something coming on, and it kicks it! I sell alot of it at my office. It is sold through health care providers. It costs at my clinic $19 a bottle for 90 tablets. If you are interested in it, you can email me and I can send you some or I can give you the contact # to find someone in your area.
