Cube Steaks

I bought some cube steaks the other day but I don't really know how to prepare them. They are machine tenderized but I'm thinking of putting some meat tenderizer on them anyway, I remember having them as a kid and they were very chewy. Can I just flour them a little and fry them up? Was thinking kind of like chicken fried steak just not deep fried.

I am just not a good cook. I can bake with the best of them, apple pie, cheesecake, basically anything sweet, but dinner is a different story.

Thanks, M.

I made cube steaks yesterday. Flour them and lightly brown. Put in the crock pot. Sprinkle 1 package Lipton onion soup mix over them. Then cover with Campbell's mushroom soup. Cook on low for about 7 hours. They come out Fork tender. I sprinkled a little garlic and pepper on also. Served with noodles and salad. Not one bite left over.

I use them to make pepper steak, in a dutch oven with a ton of green peppers, and onions. Flour them, sear them, let them simmer in a little beef stock for at least an hour hour and a half, use liquid to make a gravy, serve with rice or pasta.

I've never tried cube steaks, but now I think I will. The crock pot recipe from Sherry sounds really easy and good!

I put tenderizer on them andsome seasoning (season salt and peper) then pound them - I find that when I don't pound them, they are a bit chewy. I then dip in flour, then egg, then flour again and fry them up. Family LOVES them. Serve with mashed potatoes and white gravy and it's delicious!

like you, i find cube steaks on the tough and chewy side. i get out my kitchen shears and cut them into very small pieces, and toss the bits of gristle that seem to like to insinuate themselves into this type of steak. if you've got time, marinate 'em for a while, which seems to tenderize 'em a little. then cook them however you like. i generally saute them lightly with some veggies, and serve it all with rice.

I always make country style steak. Basically, lightly flour steaks, fry in oil just until brown (don't cook through). Then, make a dark pan gravy and stew the meat in the gravy for a hour (the longer the more tender it will be). You can also stew the meat and gravy in a crock pot too. Serve with rice. Delicious!

I simply fry them in a pan with a little bit of butter, they're really good and very lean.
