I would get a big towel that could tuck around the mattress. Then if that's not enough you could lay the cloth diapers underneath the towel.
my 6 month old son is teething and when he sleeps (on his tummy - which dr says is fine- he rolls) he drools huge wet spots on his crib sheet. I have a waterproof cloth pad under the crib sheet, and am wondering if there is something absorbent that I can put on top or under his crib sheet that will keep the moisture away from his face.
P.S. Would cloth diapers be a suffocation hazard? Could he get one bunched up around his airway?

Try "The Ultimate Crib Sheet". They sell them at Babies R Us. I like them because they are easy to take off and throw in the wash. They are also really think and absorbent.
I would try getting a lap pad to put into his crib. It will absord the drool and keep his sheet cleaner.
put some rolled up towels UNDER his mattress near his head so the mattress isn't flat. Then the drool will spread out more and dry up instead of making a big puddle.
There are pads with ties on them that attach to the crib rails that work great. They are called 'sheet savers' and are also perfect for babies that spit up a lot. I have used these with both of my kids. They are about $7 or $8 at Babies R Us.

We always used cloth diapers for burp cloths, and while we never had a drool problem, I would always lay a burp cloth under my boys' heads because they spit up so much. It would work for drool, too! They're very absorbent, and soft, too!
My lap pads aren't absorbent, and I think they'd actually leave his skin laying in the drool, but they'd definitely protect the sheet.
I liked to use puppy training pads. You can find them in the pet section of any grocery store. They are soft and absorbant on the top side and lined with plastic on the back so they wont soak through the sheet. Plus, you can just throw them away so your laundry pile doesn't get too huge!
Just an idea although the cloth diaper works but I just ordered a shammy from Shamwow and they are super absorbent. Don't know how soft as i don't have them yet but that might also work.
Sorry, par for the course. I had the king of slobberers, hee hee, I probably had to change his shirt three times a day!
He was too a tummy sleeper and it was hard, I just would move him a little out of the spot before I went to bed, not waking him but scooting him over. He was a sound sleeper so that worked.
I put on a cotton mattress cover under his crib sheet which did absorb more but had to be washed frequently too.
Keep aquaphor on his face if a rash develops, but it will stop when the teeth start rolling in. Just means teeth are on their way! :)
We use lap pads. You can usually switch them out without disturbing the little one, especially if you stack them and just remove one. They're cheaper, too, than the crib sheet protectors. I use Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Dream instead of Aquaphor for the rash. It doesn't burn, and the rash is usually gone in the morning.
