Hi moms! I am in desperate need of some help. I just agreed to be the team mom for my daughter's cheerleading squad. I will be great at the organizational piece of it, but I am not the most crafty person :-) We are responsible for 3 gifts for each of our football players throughout the season.

Some of you moms out there who are crafty or who have sons that have played football, do you have any cute, inxpensive ideas? I want to do something that will stand out and not look cheap, but I don't want to spend a fortune either!

I would appreciate any ideas you ladies can give me!

What can I do next?

I was a cheerleader and we did lots of different things for the guys, but is was usually something that we did in the school as opposed to gifts. Made them baked goods (their favorite).

I think one thing that would be neat is to get football stat cards made (like professional baseball cards) for each player. Have the girls go and take pictures of the guys in their uniform against a nice background, and them use that to have the cards made. A mini interview with the coach or players for their stats or even things like "favorite band" "favorite saying"... to put on the card would work too.

Kinkos can probably help you with this, I know we had some made when we were younger through a local photographer (they used our own photos to save money).

Or, go here and ask for a custom request, and people will bid on the job:

My son played football last year and the cheerleaders gave them snack bags before the games. (Small school with 6-man football) His favorite one had a sports drink, nuts, and m & m's in it. If you need something bigger, you can get the decorator bags and go to a candy store that carries m & m's by the color (I know there's one in Abilene so I'm betting there's some around the metroplex) and get candy in the school colors and layer them in the decorator bags then tie them with curly ribbon. You can use these alone or in larger gift bags, buckets, baskets, etc. You can also make pennants from felt in different sizes decorated with fabric or puff paint. You can do sm ones that you glue to a magnet for the guys lockers with either their team name or number on it or larger ones glued to a stick with the guy's name on it or the whole teams names on each one. Depends on what you need at the time. I'm sure I can come up with more stuff with a litle sleep LOL so pm me (if I can help more) with more specifics of what you need.

Boys always love food! Get the girls to help out and bake cookies or cupcakes, they will be devoured! Be sure and get an email list of all the cheerleaders and their parents so you can get ideas from them, too. You could find another mom who may have not been comfortable with the organizing part of the job, but is wonderfully crafty! Good Luck!

Not sure I can be of much help. When my daughter was a cheerleader, they had the same thing, but that was a number of years ago. A couple of things that they did, were:

Make "tootsie rolls" of T-shirts that they decorated or bought on clearance at Wal-Mart. The guys seemed to like the sleeveless ones the best. They would roll them very neatly and tied them with curly ribbon in the school colors.

They also made "tootsie rolls" out of toilet roll holders, tissue paper, paper ribbon and filled them with candy.

Another idea, was that they took inexpensive water bottles and decorated them with permenant markers and sometimes puff paint with the football players info and then fun sayings or things that personalized them to the player.

Be sure to also ask for input from the girls and their mothers, you never know what resources are right under your nose.

those are the ones that I remember, hope this helps.

I was team mom for my daughter's squad and I was at a loss too! Our team was called the REDSKINS, so I found a bulk lot of Washington Redskins trading cards on ebay and the girls handed a few of them to each boy after every game. They loved it! The coach said they looked forward to seeing what cards they'd receive and they had fun trading when they received duplicates or wanted a particular card. Involve the cheerleaders in the crafty part.....my girls made adorable pennants for the boys w/ our team name and did a great job! I had a friend who could monogram, so we monogrammed sports towels for them. Good luck and have fun! :)

Go to ms pineapples cheerleading website (www.mspineapple.com), there are TONS of great ideas on there and I'm sure you'll find something neat to do. We usually made something simple, like a small sign with a slogan on it and a bag of candy with lots of ribbon or a helium balloon tied to a bag of candy, something like that.

I live in a small community, but our local flower/gift shop has small inexpensive gifts for sports season to give to (secret) players , you might get ideas from a shop that isn't expensive. I think one was a cheap mug with little suckers in colors of the team turned up where they made a design. Off hand can't think of some of the others, but maybe you could get ideas off the internet.

My sons are both still toddlers, but I worked in a gift shop as a teen and we did all of the cheerleader and drill team gifts for the football players and various school occasions. One neat thing we did was to take a bottle coke and tie bags of candy to it with ribbon in the schools colors, then hot glue football helmets or similar decorations to cover the ribbon knots. Then either paint the name or jersey number down the side. These can be inexpensive to make. Another thing we did was to do snacks like chips (shaped like Texas of course),brownies, candy, etc. and make small gift baskets/buckets for the guys. Hand towels like you would use at the game with names/numbers painted on them - stuff like that. I love crafty stuff so hope that helps :)
