I'm looking for creative learning tools for a 15 month old to learn abc's and 123s! Fun creative things you don't necessarily need to go out and buy! Being a SAHM, I dont want to loose my mojo and keep things fun and spontaenous. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

When my 1st dd was that age, I used to make letters/numbers etc.from different textured fabric (silk, terry cloth, velvet, sandpaper, shag) If you sew,you can do a basic stitch around them, sew them to washrags or other fabric,or make small pillows.I also used to make homeade play dough and form letters with her and made highchair placemats with colors, abc's and numbers. You can count everything with your child through the day,and mention colors ( look, there are 2 socks! socks begin with "s") I would suggest counting and doing colors ,abc's separately at this age (then say look, your socks are red!) reading lots of counting, abc books helps a ton! Now I am excited waiting for my 2nd dd to be this age :) She is 9 mo.Hope this helps!

My kids learned their ABC's and numbers using the foamy bath letters in the tub. When they were real little we would bathe with them, as they got older, we just put them in the tub and would point out what color they were, what the letter was, and what the sound it made was. They learned, it was very low key, and they had fun.

Our boys learned their letters pretty quickly, but what really put it over the top was the leapfrog letter factory videos! They learned all the letters' sounds after one viewing, and started putting letters together to make words by age 3. We started with Letter Factory, then Word Factory, then Code Word Caper, now we're on to Storybook Factory and Let's Go To School.

Signing Time is another good video series.

You shoudl be able to check these out from the library (that's what we did....then I went ahead and purchased a few of the leapfrog videos later).

My boys loved to count the steps as we went up them. Making learning fun is the most important step for creating a life long learner and it sounds as if your child is very blessed in having a mom like you! Let him cook with you, too!
