Creative Ideas for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is right around the corner, and I have no idea what to get my mom. It seems like she already has everything. She has always been a great mom, I really want to show her that I have noticed, and that she is appriciated. But what do you get the woman that seems to have everyting (that she wants)? She is very simple (when it comes to her taste in anything), she very rarely wears jewelry or gets dressed up. If anyone has any ideas on what to get her I would really appriciate your input.
Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all very much for all the ideas....you all gave me a lot to think about. I have decided to do a few different things. I am going to have my kids make her some t-shirts with the hand prints (she loves t-shirt). I am also going to make her a card and write my most fond memories of her in it, and also help the kids make her some cards. I also talked to my dad and she has been needing a new gas cook stove so we are going out this week to find the right one for her. Once again THANK YOU ALL.

anything from the heart would be wonderful. Perhaps a tee shirt being made. Use Fabric paint to paint the childrens hands and imprint them on the shirt with their names underneath as well as make her a card. My mother always melts when she gets her mothers dayand birthday cards that my children (3 and 2) made themselves

I know what you mean. My mom is also hard to buy for. I make my own bath and body products, sugar scrubs, lotions, bath fizzies, etc. My business is Essence Of Elegance and you can email me for a brochure.

If she likes simple pleasures, this is the ticket. If she likes to go out to eat, take her out, doesn't have to be expensive, and enjoy lunch together and then give her a bath and body gift basket. I can make it especially for her. I know that no matter how old you get, our moms always like something from us that we've made. Or make her lunch at your home that she and you can enjoy(without the kids, if possible, so you both have that time together).

For the woman who has everything, give her something that's one of a kind.
This isn't my idea but my best friend did this for me because she wanted to give me a birthday gift to show me how much she loved me but didn't have a lot of money to spend.
She'd went to a Dollar Tree store and bought a small pretty journal. On each page, she glued a photo of everyone in my life that is important (my mom, kids, her and her kids, etc) and then on the page opposite, she had those people write a little note to me. Either words of love or a favorite memory of me that they had or had the little ones draw a picture. She decorated the front with a glue gun and ribbons and that is the most wonderful gift I've ever gotten. The whole thing cost her less then $3.00 but I wouldn't take a million bucks for it.
My mom past away back in February and looking through this book has been a great comfort to me. These people in the photo's are what I am leaving behind when it's my time to leave this earth and if this is the only thing I leave behind to show how much love I've had, then it's enough.
I've gotten a lot of things over the years but nothing can compare to the journal of my life book that she made for me.
Good luck and Happy Mother's Day to you.

D.,
Like your mother, I prefer the simpler things in life. I seldom get "gussied" up or wear jewelry.
One of my favorite gifts of all time was a plain cotton blend hoody sweatshirt jacket with my children's and neices and nephews hand prints all over it.
I love it! I goes with everything and is light enough that I can wear it year-round.
Here is what my sister did:
Purchase clothing item (My Mom and I got hoodies, my Dad got a denim shirt)
Purchase fabric paint from WalMart or your local craft store
One at a time let each child choose a color and paint their hand with a foam brush.
Let them make their handprint on the clothing.
You can let them choose or you decided where each one should go and direct them....
After all the handprints are complete, and the paint is dry, iron the item to "set" the paint.
Or follow the setting instructions for the paint you chose.

I have also seen this done where the adult added leaves and stems and made each hand/foot print a flower...

Very cool and not too hard -

We have a place called Doodles in Mobile, AL. It is located at Hillcrest and Grelot. For Christmas I took my daughter, soon to be 2 now, to Doodles and we painted plates and put her hand print on them. Our parents loved them. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

WOW you have a lot of hats (responsibilities) to take care of. HMM Suggestions for mother's day...have your kids color a picture and frame it for grandmother or take her to get a pedicure or manicure. she may not get dressed up but i bet she would feel great after a massage on her legs and arms. Or write of the times that she made a difference in your life. For someone that seems like they have everything, the littlest gifts can make a world of a difference. Or if you have pictures of you and your mom hanging out or doing errands or whatever make a nice collage with the pictures. Or take pictures of you and your kids or even pictures of your mother and your kids and make some really cool picture frames. parenting.com or parents.com are great for giving ideas. I hope this helps.

I don't wear a lot of jewelry either, but I now have two necklaces that I wear almost always. One is a locket that my husband gave me. It has 4 picture holders instead of the typical two. I absolutely adore it. I can fit the pictures of my kids and my nieces and nephews in it. I have seen lockets similar to this in all types of places from Wal-mart to nice jewelry stores. The kids love seeing me wear it too. They like to open it up and see there pictures. Just a thought, and good luck.

By the way, you should be very proud of yourself for taking such good care of your family. I'll pray that you are able to find a good job!

Hi D.,
You seem to have a lot of great ideas already. Anything with pictures is usually great for people that have everything. Whether it is a nice picture of the kids, or a small album with pictures of the last year...you can do tons of things with pictures. There are websites like snapfish.com or kodakgallery.com, or winkflash.com that can help you put some together with digital pictures. Or you can do you own with an inexpensive photo album and pictures that you already have.

Something I did a few years ago for my mother, and turned out to be something she really loved was a book of poems. I actually got the book at Cracker Barrel of all places:) But it had poems about and for mothers. Then I went through the book and made notes next to the ones that really seemed to highlight our relationship at different times in our lives. I also think my mother is amazing, and has just about everything she could possibly want. I hope this helps!!

I LOVE to scarpbook. I think it would be great if your could get some candid shots of her grandkids and frame them. You could do one scrapbook page and put it in a great frame. What grandparent can resist pics of their grandkids. Or another idea is to find some pictures of you and her together doing things when you were little and as you were growing up.

My favorite mother's day gift, as a mom who pretty much has "everything", is a day at the spa. the full-blown treatment with massage therapy, pedicure, manicure, and hair styling. It is expensive. You can purchase different packages or you can find a massage therapy school that has reduced prices that are very reasonable and just as good as the high priced places.

I have done two different things that went over very well, one is to make a little "brag book", go to hobbie lobby and get a wallet sized photo album and fill with pics of the grandkids for her purse. the othe is a little different, I go to a book store and find a kids book that talks about moms or loving moms ect. I go through and add on little messages where I can that would be sweet and personal. you have to look for the right book for you but it makes a very special gift. I've done it for fathers day as well.

Why don't you sit down and write your Mom a heartfelt letter? Let her know what kind of a wonderful person you think she is. Tell her how much she's loved and appreciated. Go into detail. She'll appreciate that more than another "thing." Take the time to say to your Mom what most people never do and only think about when it's too late.

I typically get my mother things that are sentimental to me. I have embroidered the grandkids names on a throw, a loving phrase on a bible cover or a tshirt with the kid's names. I also let my kids fix cards for both mothers. If she likes gardening, fix her a basket with gardening tools and gloves. Perhaps she enjoys reading. Get her a subscription to her favorite magazine. Find out what she enjoys doing and plan the gift according to the things she enjoys doing. Good luck!

I can definately relate. I am a mom of a 2 year old and have custody of my 17 year old neice. What an experience. Every year I rack my brain for creative ideas.

I have gotten all the grandchildren together for a picture. We all pitched in and it hangs on the wall. (Grandma's most prized posession). I have gotten nightgown and house coat. Old people always want something nice in case they end up in the hospital.

Something crafty that the grandkids have a part in. A flower pot with hand prints. A stone for the flower garden.

A massage, trip to the salon. If she is into taking pictures, Photo paper or something for her camera. Good Luck.

How about a picture book! I made one for my dad last year for his birthday and he loved it. You can't buy it in a store, and they will ALWAYS love it. It's unique, because they are your memories. Best of all you can go online, upload your pictures and bam you have a book. There are several companies you can use online, even Yahoo has their own.

Hope this helped.

Iam a SAHM so money is always an issue around our house, so this year my gift to my mom is a free house cleaning. It probably sounds stupid to some people, but Mom loved the idea. Or you could give her a day at a day spa. Or maybe a long letter about how much she means to you.

It looks like you have a ton of great ideas! Here's one I saw on T.V.

I was watching Talk of the Town today, and they had a neat idea for Mother's Day. Meryl Rose (one of the hosts) and Ms. Cheap (from the Tennessean) were at the Beauty Institute in the Cool Springs area. Apparently, you can get spa services and stuff like haircut and style, manicures, pedicures, etc. for very cheap there because the services are performed by students there at the Institute. The work they showed on T.V. was very good quality spa treatments. Check it out at News Channel 5's website.

My mom loves gardening, and she says everytime she looks at one of her plants, she thinks of the giver, which is us, her daughters. Maybe your Mom would like a similar gift.

I hope you find the perfect present!

How about a photo of the kids in a nice frame?

Go to one of those make your own pottery places (Fire It Up) and have the kids make her a plate with their handprints on it or they could each make her something different.

Give her some plants/flowers to plant in her yard.

How about gift certificates to her favorite restaurant or to get her hair/nails done?

Hope this helps.

I saw a really cool gift idea for Mother's Day at a little shop near my home yesterday - I think I'm going to give one to my mom this year. It's called a Blessing Ring, and it is a silver ring embellished with ribbons and beads. It has a card attached that has a Bible verse relating to motherhood, and the description that comes with the ring says, "Each time someone encourages you in a word or action, place it on your ring... A card, a letter, a token, a Bible verse, a photo...punch a hole in it, string it on your Blessing Ring." You and the children could each make cards or write notes, and you could even have your dad write a letter to your mom telling her what it has been like to witness her be a mother to his children. String the notes on the Blessing Ring, and then add more each year. I inserted a link (below) I found online that sells the Blessing Rings, in case you wanted to check out what they look like, but you might be able to pick one up at a gift store near year. Good luck!
