I caught the tail end of this and just read how you did it all and I think it's absolutely PRICELESS!!
How wonderful, congratulations to you ALL!
I JUST found out I'm pregnant, and I'm looking for a unique, sweet way to tell my husband. I have been reluctant about having another baby (we have two that are mine from a previouse relationship, but he already has names picked out (even though we weren't planning this)! This is definitely our "love" child, so I really want this to be extra special...but I dont think I can wait until Valentine's Day to tell him. Any ideas???
Thank you all so much for the creative and adorable ideas! I don't know how I held out, but I did wait until Valentine's Day to tell my husband and the kids of our new arrival. It was amazing, and I'm glad I kept my mouth shut. So here was the day, from (top to bottom).
a.m:Kids had gifts waiting downstairs. My 5 yr old daughter had a big stuffed teddy with a little pink dress on the teddy that I had put BIG SISTER on (the dress) for her to wear to school. My son had a T-shirt that said BROBRO (thats what my daughter always calls him) around the collar (I didnt want to make it to childish because he wouldn't have worn it). It took them a minute, but when they figured it out they were ecstatic! I had to keep them quiet because my husband was upstairs and I wasnt telling him until dinner. He had offered to drive the kids to school because I was tired (which I never usually pass up), but they couldnt be trusted not to tell, so I drove them anyway. They were proud to wear their shirts to school and when I got there for my daughters VDay party the teachers were all excited and congratulating me right away.
Skip to dinner: Kids were all bundled up, instructed NOT to take their jackets off until he opened his gifts. My husbands Mom's sister JUST happened to be in town w/ her family (my husbands favorite 9 year-old cousin), which was really special because his mom passed away last June. They joined us for dinner at our favorite Sushi place (no raw fish or saki for me). First gift had the card outside of the tissue paper. It was a very special card where the test fit perfectly inside. He just said very quietly...OMG you pregnant?? And it was like the world stopped and we all cried and laughed, the kids took their jackets off and proudly dispyed their customized shirts.
Then the gifts: First box had two black 12m T's. One was a Beatles shirt (his Mom's fave) and the other one said "I do all my own stunts" (my husband has been skateboarding since he was 11 and went pro again last year). Then of course other random T-shirts and bibs that fit our personalities.
Next box had 5 onesies that I put the text on myself:
1)baby elephant (are called punks, and that what we always call the kids)
2)lil' punk (is a baby elephant)
3)pooper (what my husband always calls babies)
4)parcell (his last name)
5)daddys lil skater
He was in shock and elated all night (still is), and could not believe that I was able to keep it a secret. Then eveyone started calling to find out how it went. We were able to laugh at all the almost slips-ups over the last week and a half. He was glad that I surprised him.
The day could not have been more perfect or amazing, thank you all so much for your ideas and notes of encouragement!

What a beautiful name BTW. :) Congratulations! That is so exciting! Have you thought abt a personalized onesie? I have always thought that was a cute idea. They may have one at a local baby store that would work. You could put something fun on it. You could make a nice dinner and then present it to him. :)
Blessings,
K
Hi S.,
This may sound a little cheesy, but they have personalized fortune cookies you can get online and I thought why not get one and insert his special 'fortune' inside of it. Put something like, "I see the birth of a new baby in the near future." I think it's pretty neat, the more I think of it!
A great site for this stuff is www.personalizationmall.com
But it's all up to you...and congrats on getting preggers!
Take care!
Hello S.~
Congratulations!!!! 7 years ago when I found out I was pregnant with our last child, and we already had one that was only 4 months old at the time. I really had to come up with a creative way to tell my husband that we were pregnant again so soon. I chose to get a baby stuff that related to him in some kinda way that would be neutral. I found some of the cutest things at a local childs store in our area called "Once Upon a Child" its a consignment shop. If you live in Salem Oregon that would be a great place to go. I also made it a scavanger(sp) hunt. It was alot of fun. When he got to the final hunt he was still a bit clueless, then when he saw the baby outfit that was neutral for either for a boy or a girl he was able to put it all together. He was delighted and yet as worried as I was as to how we were going to manage 2 babies so close in age. It was not as difficult as we led ourselves to believe. Quite frankly we wouldnt change it for the world.
Hope this Helps
God Bless
A. :)
I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A PAIR OF BABY SHOES AND A BABY PHOTO ALBUM WRAPPED THOSE UP AND LEFT THEM ON THE SEAT OF HIS CAR SO WHEN HE GOT IN TO GO TO WORK HE HAD TO SEE THE PRESENT.. ITS WONDERFUL CAUSE HE WILL COME RUNNING BACK IN AND START ASKING LOTSA QUESTIONS WITH A HUGE GRIN..
I'll tell you how I told my husband.
I wrapped three gifts.
One was a daddy jacket. We always joked that daddy's wear flannel jackets so I rushed out as soon as I found one and bought him a daddy jacket. He didn't get it.
So he opend the second gift. A baby picture frame with the word baby on it. I bought it years ago...maybe get a frame from Michaels and paint your baby names on it with question marks.
He started to catch on but once he opend the test...he knew and said...You got one in there. It was sweet and he still talks about it.
Find something personal and make it your own special way that he can remember forever.
ohh congrats...I got chills it sounds so wonderful!!
mmm you could wrap a pair of tiny socks and give it to him at the end of the day. Or hang a onesie in the closet for when he gets his clothes in the morning it is hanging there..or put in in a drawer he will go into...
how wonderful!!
I'm not sure if you've already told your husband or not but what I did when I found out i was pregnant with our second child was sent an invitation in the mail to him at work......Inside it read.
You are invited to the birth of your second child 6/11/06
at Kaiser Hospital South Sacramento
He called me as soon as he got it.....he was showing everyone. It was a complete surprise.
I am sure you have a great idea by now but I just thought I would tell you how I told my husband when we were pregnant. I went out to the store and bought a stuffed animal monkey (because I always called him my monkey...he rock climbs)and put a bib around the monkeys neck that said I Love My Daddy, tied the pregnancy test to the monkey's hand and a balloon that said congratulations. He just stared at it for a few minutes and then was in disbelief ..."really, you are? No really?" stuff like that. Have fun, and let us know how you did end up telling him, and how he took it.
I've always thought it would be fun to drop little hints... buy a little outfit and leave it laying around and then act like you don't know where it came from, etc. I'm not a romantic person though!
However, I did have a friend who told her husband by filling their bedroom with candles and balloons that said "It's a boy, It's a girl, congrats", etc. and then left little foot prints leading to the bedroom where she was laying on the bed in a baby doll type nighty, waiting for him. I wasn't there, but I hear it was very romantic and got the point across... and he was very happy!
awww - that is so wonderful! congratulations and thanks for sharing such a wonderful and joyous moment for you and your family! so heartwarming!
hi, Congrats!
I think a cute way would to go to build a bear, (don't know if you have one) and can record something and put it in the bear and give it to him, that way it can be the first stuff animal for you baby.
i bought a card from hallmark that was meant for a 'new dad' and taped the test to the inside of it...he didn't even realize until he saw the test inside the card...i wrote something like, congratulations, your gonna be a daddy.
he just hugged me with happiness!
I think it would be cute to have a timer go off in your kitchen and say to your husband "Can you please get that for me?" He would have a confused look on his face when he sees a bun, and you say "Look, honey! There's a bun in our oven!" See if he get's it...he might need more clues. :)
Hi S.,
I told my husband by giving him a sappy dad card, with the test results from the doctor in it. He was shocked and surpised, then very happy. It totally suprised him! We were not planning it either.
H.
Congratulations!!!! I was thinking the other day it would be cute to send hubby to the grocery store with a list and one item would be for a new baby ... diapers, formula ... something like that.
Have fun telling him!
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!!!! I was thinking, instead of "telling" him, or getting him a card, why not cook him a theme dinner....you know serve "baby" back ribs, with "baby" carrots, and "baby" corn, "baby" tomatoes....something like that, and see if he gets it, of course you should also serve some sparkling apple juice instead of champagne. Let me know how it goes, and again, congratulations to you and your family!
I brought home a bouquet of pink & light blue balloons. I had tied the pregnancy test to the balloons. I put it right where he'd see it when he came home from work.
