Creative Gift for My Cousin/ Just Had a Baby

My cousin gave birth to her second daughter two weeks ago and I wanted to get a gift for her. Something to encourage some relaxing alone time. She is having a bit of a physical post partum problem (that was a lot of p's!)that is causing some discomfort. Because of this, bath products would not be a good idea. I also want something more personal than a gift card. Any creative ideas or something you received and really liked would be great, thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the great suggestions. Since I am looking for something for her that she can enjoy by herself, (the baby already got lots of things and we need to take care of momma!) I decided to get her a "take care of you" gift. A mug, some tea, a face mask, a candle, a book, a CD, some chocloates and a blanket to wrap up in. I loved the massage idea, but it's a little pricey and she is not big on leaving the house. I know she'll love being able to "leave" while being at home. Thanks again and take care of yourselves!!!

Hi S.,
you've been given some great suggestions. I agree a mani/pedi is a great idea. If she is experienceing physical pain from delivery however, she may not feel up to getting out and about. Perhaps taking the idea from the gift basket, you may fill it with items she needs for her sits bath? A cute container filled with epsom or sea salt, a gel eye pack (the blue ones you can put in the fridge, an inflatable bath pillow and her favorite scented candles and lotion. I think this would help her look forward to her baths rather than them being so clinical.

Hello S.,

I know how it is having a newborn. Its hard to get any relaxing time. I don't know how you feel about candles, but I love the baby bundle from Gold Canyon. I always turn down the lights, and my kids and husband know when mom wants relaxing time. check out ____@____.com/tonibarreras
I hope this helps!

Hey - I totally understand the beginning is so hard! I make cute and stylish things for moms. Stylish diaper bags, adorable aprons for the kitchen, and AMAZING nursing blankets! (I couldn't live without mine!)
My website is www.dotsnpockets.etsy.com , because I just moved to tucson, it is kind of sparse right now, but most of my work is custom anyway. If you go to the right hand side and click on "Sales" you can see the things that I have sold. Then click on "contact dotsnpockets" and tell me if you would like something! Good Luck!

I didn't read what the other ladies wrote. I received a massage as a gift from my husband after our first and it was awesome for the PPP discomfort. He just got it from a spa, But I think It would be cheaper at a massage place. Good Luck, and you are very sweet to want to get her a special gift.

If your cousin has any interest in having a scrapbook of her girls/family but considers scrapbooking "work" instead of "play" then consider Close To My Heart's Simply Snapshots pages - they are 9x9 designed pages with 2 spaces for 4x6 photos and a space for the who/what/where/when journalling or a name/title. These are great! Love love them - my mom is afraid to scrapbook but loves to use them.

There are also level one page kits in the 12x12 size, those are quick and easy to make gorgeous looking pages.

Scrapbooking is an outlet to some, but a chore to others. So for those who want to have a scrap/photo book but without the "work" I really recommend the Simply Snapshot pages - plus the 9x9 size is *perfect* for little hands to enjoy. Am I allowed to post a link to show you the pages? Email me if you'd like to see - ____@____.com

Another good idea would be to give her a gift cert for a pedicure/manicure and offer to watch the kids. It would give her a short break but not long enough that she would begin to worry.

What about a gift certificate for a massage? Or, a coupon can she can turn in for a night of babysitting with a gift certificate for pedicure?

A great baby gift though would be www.miracleblanket.com It is guaranteed to help babies sleep, stops colic, etc. If she's not been sleeping well with a newborn, it could be the BEST gift she gets - because she'll get more sleep herself!

Best,
C.

Do you know if she is nursing or not? You could get her a nice night gown and/or robe - or maybe some healthy herbal tea and a beautiful mug or teapot - if you know what she likes to read maybe get her a good book - there are lots of options that have nothing to do with bath products. Think of something you would have really liked to receive and get her that.

The best gift I recieved was painted wooden letters spelling my daughters name that coordinated to her nursery set. Each letter was a different color and tied at the top with ribbon-very cute!
I also appreciated when one of my girlfriends delivered dinner and trash magazines (OK, US Weekly, Star)
When my sister-in-law had her daughter I completed a baby girl scrapbook, only needing the photos. I know she loves to do scrapbook but would be limited on time, so I thought I'd do the dirty work for her! Now all she has to do is crop photos and attach.
I'm sure she will love the effort you are putting into this no matter what you decide! :)

You're so sweet to want to do something nice for her! Even though gift cards aren't super personable, how about one for a massage, facial, or a pedicure? You could also offer to watch the little ones for a couple of hours while she's gone. She'd get some much needed pampering, and the time out of the house without little ones is a sure fire way to get the batteries recharged! I'd love it if someone did that for me!!

Maybe you could offer to take her out to lunch with baby in tow. Or you could watch the baby for her so she can get a manicure/pedicure during a time the baby typically naps. Those usually don't take much more than 30-45 minutes. Sometimes during the first few weeks, it's refreshing to just get out of the house like a "normal" person. If going out is tough due to the physical discomforts, you could spend some girlie time at her home together-- give each other facials and watch a fun movie together. I would have enjoyed having some company when my husband was at work and my boys were newborns.

Well coming from a massage therapist, I would suggest a gift certificate for a massage it will relax her body, mind and spirit. You could get one at a school for $30.00 an hour.

I know new mom's have a tendency to be "touched out" all that holding, nursing, being thrown up on, etc.

But someone gave me a postpatum massage at week #2 and it was heaven! She came to my home and even showed me some infant massage after our hour was up.

I would so reccomend this. The stress release and the complete attention on my aching and sleep deprived body had me in a release of tears...but the best kind!

P.S. I forgot to add that my friend stayed while I was getting the massage to watch the baby and she cooked dinner!

Hi S. -

How about a trip to a spa or just a nice massage? If you are in the valley, the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe has a massage clinic - they are students, but I can assure you they are very good at what they do and the price is unbeatable. The address is 1111 E. Apache Blvd. - between McClintock and Rural on Apache.

Maybe you could go with her?????
