Hi Moms, I was wondering if anyone has had that weird crawling feeling in their legs while pregnant and what can I do about it? I've read that too much milk can cause it, but i tried to cut out some milk and it hasn't stopped. It happens in the evening and drives me crazy! Getting up and walking around helps, but only for a little while. My doctor has just advised me to stop working and stay off my feet, so exercise is out. Thanks for any tips!

What can I do next?

Restless Leg would drive me insane. I remember nights where it would wake me up and I would have to pace in order for the crawly feeling to go away. I also remember breaking down and crying because it was horrible. What worked for me was the potassium (bananas) and also having my husband massage my legs.

I hope that helps!

I sometimes have this in the evenings too, and while it sounds like some of the responders have it disrupt their sleep, I found that it was often a side-effect of being tired. Perhaps you should take it as a sign from your body that you need more sleep. It might be hard with an 8-yr-old, but I've found that going to bed helps. Best of luck!

Hmm, I am not sure I agree with your doctor. I had the same thing...it was a form of RLS (restless leg syndrome). The best thing to do was NOT to sit around for a long periods (and I was even on bedrest) and take iron. Ask your doc again or even your pharmacist. I hope it goes away! It drove me nuts!

I had it with my 2nd pregnancy with my twins, but not with my first. I wonder if it has anything to do with the added stress of multiples since you didn't experience it with your singleton pregnancy either. It did drive me crazy, and I was on bed rest as well. I did get some (a little) relief from doing some leg stretches before I laid down and sometimes in the middle of the night when it woke me up. Even just flexing and relaxing my ankles right when it first started helped sometimes. At its worst, I'd take a benadryl (I was also dealing with recurring hives and had been told by the doc to use it) so I'd get sleepy enough to fall asleep in spite of it. My partner also would try rubbing/massaging my legs with lotion and that gave me some relief too. Delivery was the real cure though. You're almost there!!

I also have it. I have it even when I am not pregnant. I try stretching when it bothers me. My calves get tight so I did a lot of stretching and massaging the legs. Mine only happens at night too. It is a good reason to have the hubby give you a foot and leg massage :) Well I just read the triplet part too so that is an even better reason why your hubby should giving you massages. Congratulations.

That drug for RLS is called Requip, and I've had good sucess so far with my patients. Try the lower dose, as the higher doses can make people too sleepy during the daytime. Another reason people can get these symptoms is from iron deficient anemia, potassium depletion, diabetes, or the wonderful side effects of pregnancy :o)

ITs called restless leg syndrome (RLS). I tried eating more bananas (to get more potassium), rest, and when that didnt work, exercise... nothing helped me. I had it during both my pregnancies and I would mainly get it at night when I lay down to sleep. It was HORRIBLE. It went away after my kids were born. My doctor said she has the same thing and tehre is not much you can do about it. Sorry!!

Hang in there.

I agree that it sounds like RLS, I know there is a prescription medication out there for it, but it is fairy new so I doubt anyone would give it in pregnancy. I recently saw an article on babycenter.com about RLS, here is a link to it. It looks like they recommend iron supplements and a few other tips, but other wise you will probably just have to wait it out until after delivery. Good luck.
