Melissa,
Glad to hear everything is all right. Just wanted to let you know I had the same thing happen and my son was born health, no problems.
I am 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow and once in a while I have been experiencing mild period like cramps....is this normal? I haven't had any bleeding or discharge.
Thanks everyone for the support! I actually started spotting, so I went to the Doctor and had an ultrasound, the good news is that the little bean has a heartbeat that seems to be chugging along. The doctor said that was a good sign. He also said that sometimes woman have cramps and spotting and the docs just don't know why.
Melissa,
Glad to hear everything is all right. Just wanted to let you know I had the same thing happen and my son was born health, no problems.
I also had cramps and my dr told me it was the little one just implating itself so it is a definte good sign. Congrats.
hello melissa how have you been?! it is a whole month later since you posted this but i wanted to check on you!
I had Cramping in my 1st 2nd, and now thrid trimester, it usually comes on when i'm doing too much or over doing it. Take it easy. It could just be your body telling you to slow down.
let me know who the you are doing please.
This is something that if it was me I would definitely call my doctor about. Not to worry you but just to make sure everything is okay.
I agree for peace of mind call your dr. office and explain to them what is going on.
I had them throughout my whole first trimester. My dr. told me to not worry so much unless there was bleeding. I did have some bleeding and they got me in for an ultrasound right away. Everything was fine though and we made it through the pregnancy without any other problems. If you feel like they are really strong cramps, I would definately call your dr. Or if you are really worried in general you can call them. Thats what they are there for!
With my first pregnancy, I had HORRIBLE cramps when I was suppose to start, before I even knew I was pregnant-my doctor said that this was not uncommon having to do with my uterus stretching because of the baby. I also noticed mild cramping when I would overdo it at work, in which case I just had to learn to slow down. I would call my doctor whenever I had concerns about anything so don't hesitate to do so-that's what they're there for....
Hi Melissa,
I had the same problem and they (doctor) told me that my uterus was stretching, that's all. Is this your first child?
its simple your body should not cause you pain when all is ok if you are worried and your bodie is causing you pain that early on
seek medical help go see a doctor
and set your mind at rest knowing is half the battle
and stress can cause you and your baby harm
even as early on as you are in your blessing; the uterus swells slightly putting pressure on the ligaments supporting the uterus; (broad and round ligaments) i had this at 9 weeks pregnant with my daughter (now 5) and again in my last trimester from all of the weight; plenty of rest and lots of water and stretching and relaxation methods work wonders. and if that really doesn't "take care of it fully" tyelenol is safe but definately take it as recommended. congratulations and good luck! and the spotting could very well be normal and not a bad sign... some spot the entire pregnancy and the dr's just have no explanation for it. i hope you have a healthy happy pregnancy!!
Hi Melissa. First of all, congrats on your pregnancy. I just had my first baby 10 months ago, and I too had a lot of mild period like cramps. Infact, before I found out I was pregnant I thought I was going to start my period because of all the cramps. Then I realized I was a couple weeks late and sure enough I was pregnant. My doctor said it was normal that it is your body (uterus) moving around and stretching. You will find that you have lots of weird feelings, cramps, and once you get much further along you may experience more cramps from your pelvis shifting. I would tell you to contact your doctor anytime you are worried though. My doctor was always really great and was happy to answer any questions or worries I had and as a first time mom we will have lots :) So just remember that's what they are for and if you are worried be sure to call and ask or ask to set up an appointment. I hope everything goes well for you. It's an experience like no other :)
I am 5 weeks pregnant right now and I am also feeling some mild cramps. I also had them when I was pregnant with my son and I think it is just your uterus starting to stretch and it is normal to have those. Just pay attention to anything that is stronger or any bleeding and then you should call your doctor!
during my last pregnancy, I had horrible cramping, but most of it came in my third trimester. The Dr just kept telling me it was from dehydration. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Congratulations!
Melissa,
I experienced these cramps in my first trimester also. Like the other gals said it's fine unless you are experiencing any bleeding. My doctor told me that the cramps were just pains of my uterus starting to grow to prepare for the baby, I also had lower back pain along with it, all a result of my uterus growing. I wouldn't worry too much, but ask your doctor. Good Luck.

I think its just your uterus expanding. u shouldnt have any worries about it but maybe u should call your dr & ask them. good luck.
Do you have any pregnancy books yet?
I recommend the "Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" and Dr Sear's "The Baby Book" if you don't.
If you don't have any weird discharge, I wouldn't worry too much about the cramps. Your body is changing and it is very common to have mild cramping early on in pregnancy. Ask your Dr, but mine told me that I could use a heatingpad on low for short bouts if it got too bad.
Good luck!

My dr told me that as long as there is no bleeding it is normal. I asked how long it could last cause i'm 7 weeks ans still getting it and she said it could last all first tri. Who is your OB?
I found out I was pregnant with my first-born when I was about 6 weeks along. I put off going to the doctor to see if I was pregnant, because it felt like I was going to start my period. I kept having similar cramps. When I found out, and talked to my doctor about it...he said exactly what was said previously. That it as due to the uterus expanding and changing to accomodate the baby. There really isn't anything you can do, unless you do start spotting or bleeding. In fact, the cramps came back worse in my 5th month of pregnancy. No bleeding, mind you, and the doctor said it was from my stomache muscles seperating down the middle to again..accomodate baby. I had never heard of that before at the time...so I thought I would throw that in. I would say, rule of thumb, if there is no extra secretions such as blood or discharge, or even clear fluid accompanying the pain (later in your pregnancy your normal vaginal discharge will increase), then everything is most likely ok. If the pain continues to increase in intensity...or if you are truly worried...see your doctor. Congratulations! Don't forget to enjoy it...it really is a wonderful thing, try not to let the symptoms of pregnancy get you down. You are going to have a baby! :)
You started spotting, so yeah, smart move going to the doctor. I am very happy to hear everything is well. Congratulations again and Good luck! :)
yes it is normal, I have a 6yr old and 9 yr old, and with both pregnancies I experienced this. More with the first than the second, it is your uterus stretching and making room for the baby. If it is too painful or uncomfortable I would call your doctor, better safe than sorry I always say :) good luck :)
yes, melissa it is common to have mild period cramps in the begaining I did with all of my children and if this is your first baby your wound is not use to the changes that are going on it is use to being pre-preg,I worried to when I first had the cramps with my baby the doctor just said she was growing and my body was trying to make room
a mother of three
I had that too and everything was fine. When is your next dr. appt? I would call and see if you can come in for the peace of mind. Hope you feel better!
