We used olive oil and it always loosened it right up after about 10 minutes and then I would peel it off and use a J&J shampoo....only one that would get the oil out. Good luck!

Hi A.,

When my daughter had cradle cap our pediatrician recommended that we use a dandruff shampoo. (they didn't recommend any particular brand) It helped to clear it up fairly quickly. Also, the dr. said to NOT use baby oil as it can clog the poors of the skin and cause acne and it doesn't help cure cradle cap at all.

I would recommend that you switch to a dandruff shampoo and see if that helps at all.

Hi A.. My daughter had Cradle Cap really bad too. Our Pediatritian recommended T/Gel by Neutrogina Shampoo. It smells kind of mediciney but it works well to try and comb thru your baby's scalp in the tub. Worth a try!

When my daughter had cradle cap our doctor told us to use Selsun Blue. I am not sure if it would help with the odor, as we didn't have that, but maybe it would work for you. I know if I tried anything that wasn't baby oil, it would make her hair smelly and greasy until it was washed a few times and I wasn't using the product anymore. Good Luck!

My son also had craddle cap, his was so bad that he had to see a dermatoligist. It was on his head, back, armpits, and chest. First thing, do not put baby oil on it. That is probably what the smell is. It is trapped under the craddle cap which is still there. Stop using all lotions and oils, it will only make it worse. My dermatoligist had me put Hydrocortizone (0.5%) on his head, just a little bit at a time after his bath. It is amazing how fast it works, in just a few days I noticed a huge difference. He also told me not to pick at it with a comb, just brush it lightly with one of those soft brushes and it will start flacking away. You will notice as the craddle cap comes off you will see liquid seep from there scalp. Nasty I know but it will happen (that is what the smell is coming from). Good Luck and let me know how it turns out.

Mt Peditrician told me to stay away from oil based treatments. Hydrocortozone 1/2 or 1% is what she said to use.

You can wash with selsun blue dandruff shampoo ( be careful-put a layer of vaseline on his forehead first). I did that once on MD advice then I washed with baby shampoo, scrubbed a little with a baby comb twice a week and this helped tremendously. He is 8 months now and it hasnt returned. They usually out grow. Dont use oil based products. Cradle cap is a result of overproductive sweat glands.

I'm not sure what method you use to wash your daughter's hair, but maybe you could try massaging the shampoo in very well, and then leave it sit for a few minutes. If that doesn't work, I wonder consider using a small dab of adult shampoo. Maybe there would be some extra cleansing power in it.

My son's cradle cap always had a strange smell to it when it got wet. Maybe it is natural. It sounds to me though like you need to take her to the doctor. It could be a fungus or yeast that is causing the smell and she may need a special lotion for it. My son is 7 months and his has gotten better, but he still has it a little. Just the regular Johnson & Johnson lotion in the pink bottle has helped with his a lot. And my pediatrican said I could use t-gel on it two times a week if it seemed like it itched him, but it doesn't bother him and I hate to get it in his eyes. So haven't ever used it.

Dear A.,

I am an independent distributor for Arbonne International and they have an amazing baby line - it is chemical free, mineral oil free and I had a friend whose baby had excema all over its body and was on several different prescription lotions. After she put her daughter on our product, she emailed me back and said her skin is like baby skin now.

Following is my website address: www.rmoyer.myarbonne.com

Please take a look at the baby line - it truly is amazing for babies!

Please do not hesitate to call me - ###-###-#### and I will be happy to discuss it further.

I look forward to hearing back from you. I can recommend what your three old can use.

Hi A., I have 3 children. My son had cradle cap and my daughter (the youngest)also had it. Yes it is a terrible smell but you can use the stuff you using. But It will not help unless you scrap it off yourself:(. I thought that was one of the grossest thing i could do as a mom.But found out later it wasn't. :) well heres what you can do. You know those combs that men use to comb there hair or the salon use to cut womens hair. after you use your winnie the pooh cradle cap stuff just massage it and comb it off. you might not get it all the first time but you can do it everytime you bathe him. Or when u r holding the baby just little by little pick it off. hope this helps.

Hi A.. My daughter had a little bit of cradle cap when she was born.. all i did was lotion her head twice a day and use the soft baby brush on it over the tub, so it wasn't going everywhere. It cleared up really quickly.
