Good Afternoon, i cant seem to get rid of my cracked heels!!! I exfoliate once a week, ive tried scrubs and soaks does anyone have any suggestions? TIA
apart from the scrub, that which also works is the athletes foot spray.. yes, believe it or not.. it appears that that dry scaly skin is not just because of the elements but also fungus.. I tried the spray and low and behold, it really helped a TON.......... I tend to like to wear sandals which I do think contributes to the dry heels, but once I used that spray as well, I was amazed at how much better it worked than when I just exfoliated.. give it a try.. you can get it at target or drugstores.. best of luck

Sometimes those pesky cracks are actually a form of athletes foot. Try some athletes foot cream and see if that helps! My husband needed Lamisil pills for toenail fungus, and noticed that the cracks in his heels healed without doing anything extra or special (such as lotions or exfoliating).

Heel Balm by Flexitol worked for me. I got my tube at Walmart. I noticed a difference in 2 days! Before that I had tried exfoliating, vasaline, foot lotions, etc and nothing worked.

Call your local Mary Kay consultant and ask them for a sample of the Extra Emolient Night Cream. Then apply that, wrap your feet in saran wrap and let soak in a tub of fairly warm water for 20 mins. Remove the feet from water and remove the saran wrap, wipe off the excess cream and your feet should feel MUCH better.

Coconut oil. Go to the cooking oil aisle in a health food store or any grocery store that has a natural or organic section. One jar should last you quite a while, put it on at night and wear some socks if you want to it wont stain your clothing. As an HHP I massage all my clients with coconut oil and it is very moisturizing without being greasy. I love the texture and my clients love that their skin is getting the best moisturization possible.

I agree with Leslie. I've tried every cream, lotion, vaseline, oil, etc. I've done pedicures, got a ped-egg, etc. I've made myself wear socks for months, even though I'd rather be a flip flop girl. Ultimately, my best friend's podiatrist told her it was a form of athlete's foot and to use anti-fungal cream and she suggested I tried it too. After two days of using it I noticed a huge difference. No more cracks, bleeding or white, dry feet. I have been using it off and on for the last 6 months or so, now needing it no more than once every other week. I get the generic from Dollar General for about $2 and a tube lasts for months.

Ped-Egg is really great! But if your heels are cracked to the point of hurting, I'd start with lotion for a few days before using it. I also use Sally Hansen's Cracked Heel creme. You can get it at pretty much any major grocery store. It does more for me than the expensive cremes.

Lotion twice daily, and wear socks and lace up sneakers all the time. Use a good all natural lotion, too, with plant oils in it.
Plus, if you always have your socks and shoes on, you'll always be ready to go anywhere you need to!
Go have an adventure!

I use a natural cream called Shea. I get it from Wildflower Soaps. It is wonderful. It is also called Shea Butter. It is the hottest ingredient used by high end cosmetic companies for a good reason. I'm quoting the brochure that I got from them. Shea Butter is a superb moisturizer and if left unrefined, contains remarkable healing properties for various skin ailments.
Shea Butter is extracted from the nut of the Karite tree (shea tree). Most cosmetic companies use a small amount of refined shea in their products. Refining creates a cheap odorless product stripped of natural healing properties.
What is it used for? Here's the list:
Skin Cracks- so this will work on your heels
dry skin
skin peeling after tanning
blemishes and wrinkles
itching skin
sunburn and other minor burns
tough or rough skin-feet and elbows
stretch mark prevention
insect bites
eczema and dermatitis
skin damage from radiation treatments
skin allergies such as poison ivy and poison oak and it is says on the brochure much, much more!
Note: it is not a skin lotion. It could better be considered a balm for problem areas. The smallest amount is sufficient for the biggest job. The information in the brochure in not intended to be professional advice or treatment.
I bet you could possibly check a health food store or somewhere that carries organic or natural type products. I've used it for about 1 month and my heels were a little bit cracked and very dry. They are no longer cracked or dry. I still have a few calluses that I am working on. What I have done is put the Shea Butter on (small amount goes a long way) my feet and then I put on socks over that and in the morning they are very soft and even now they are still soft. I used it every night for 1-2 weeks and now I have cut back and am not using it as much on my calluses. I also use it on my elbows. There is no chemicals in the too shea. Hope this helps!
I've also heard Castor Oil can be good problem areas on the feet like warts, not sure if it will help cracked heels.

Bite the bullet and get a pedicure! I know it can be embarrasing to go when your feet are really awful, but trust me, they have seen worse! They will fix your feet, plus you get to relax for a while and have somebody else pamper you! Totally worth the $35!!

Start with a file or a pedi-egg and get rid of all that dead skin. Not just once a week, do it every day. Next use a cracked heal cream. A recommend Avon, but there are lots of them available.

Use the exfoliate tool at every bath until you get the results you want, then cut back to every other or 3rd day. Also use a hydrating moisturizer on your feet daily. Creams work better if you put socks on immediately after.

I use Heel Balm, a creme in a tube, by Flexitol. I buy it in the general cosmetic area of my Fred Meyer grocery store...just look for other foot products and it should be right there in most stores.
One week of use and you won't recognize your feet. I continue to use it daily to keep them looking soft and pretty.

K exfoliate once a week but that should be enough. I have from bath & body works their sugar scrub. I rub that all over my feet every other day in the shower. It's got oils in it that really lock in moisture. Then morning and night I use bath & body works body butter lotion and just rub that on them. Doing all that will really help. Then once they are nice and smooth/soft you don't have to do as much for the upkeep. Just exfoliate once a week and put body butter on them once a day.

I had tried everything. My feet were cracked and so dry that they would bleed. A friend recommended getting pedicures.(my lady soaks my feet, uses that little metal thing to scrape off the dead skin, soaks again, then puts lots of special lotion on my heels and then wrapped in a hot towel) I was against it at first because of the cost and I didn't think it was a necessity. Well was I wrong!! It took about 4 or 5 pedicures. My feet started healing nicely and it didn't hurt to put on my shoes, to walk, they were not bleeding anymore, my stockings were not snagged etc etc. And one huge plus, the pedicures make my feet look great and I get time to sit in the massage chair and be pampered. It is the best 20 dollars I spend. Good luck.

I read several responses and didn't find the cure that I have found works best. Vicks Mentholatum rub. (generic works too). Slather it on your feet really thick and put on a pair of thick cotton socks. Do this after a warm bath or foot soak while your feet are damp, not wet but still moist. It really works. It also keeps my feet from hurting so bad after a long day at work. Try it and let me know what you think.

I saw on a morning show one day that you should rub your heels with a Stridex pad, one per heel, and then slather with a thick lotion like Udder Cream. Then put on socks. It should take about a week to see results. The women demonstrating said that if you use the Stridex pads, you will never have dry, cracked heels again (I find that hard to believe). I have been wanting to try it but I never remember to buy the Stridex pads. If you try it, let me know if it works!

Geesh, I thought this was a problem isolated to me. I never ever had a cracked heel problem until I was pregnant with my first child. That was 11 years ago. Since I had such dry skin throughout my pregnancy, I just assumed it was a pregnancy thing that never resolved itself. I've read through many of the posts and can say that I've tried just about everything everyone else has suggested. I regularly give myself pedicures at home; I've splurged when I can afford the luxury to get a spa pedicure. I've slathered my feet with just about every cream and lotion and oil out there to no avail. Still my heels are cracked. Scrubbing with scrubs, sea salt, even one of those cheese grater/filing tools doesn't make the cracks go away. I guess this is a common problem among us. The ONLY thing that makes them less noticeable is keeping my feet moisturized and putting socks on every night. They always look better in the morning, but the cracks never completely go away.

This will sound weird to some people, but glue the cracks in your heels together with super glue. Works great on fingers too when they starting cracking from dry skin due to the cold weather. Once the glue has dried, use a foot sanding wand and smooth them out. My husband's heels would crack so deep that they would bleed. That doesn't happen anymore. Good luck!

My husband has this problem, as well, and we have tried EVERYTHING on the market. He used to use this stuff called Zim's Crack Cream, but they quit making the formulary he liked. He recently started using Gehwol (you can get it online at either Footsmart.com or Drugstore.com) and his feet look a lot better.
Do get checked by a physician to rule out any kind of fungus problem because that is an easy fix. If it is not any kind of fungus, then just try experimenting with different products and find what works for you.
Super-gluing the cracks does work, but it doesn't really fix the problem. Foot shavers work great, but sometimes you can make the problem worse by getting rid of too much skin. Be careful if you do this. Sometimes just putting a petrolatum-type product (like vaseline or aquaphor) on the cracks and wearing socks at night will make a tremendous difference.
HTH!

I have a PedEgg and would advise using it as a last resort. Once I started using it, I noticed my cracked heels got worse so that I'd have to use it all the time to keep my heels smooth. The cracked/dead skin seems to be thicker now. Yuck. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I think it's better to try the alternatives first. Good luck!
