It's the fact that they can't fully digest the milk and could cause intolerance later. It has nothing to do with if they can walk or not.
All moms out there i need the truth! How many of you waited until the age of one to start giving cows milk? My oldest son started drinking cows milk at 9 months!i just cant see keeping my babies on formula until one year old! I've been told that my kids progress very fast, my oldest son was walking a week before he turned 8 months and he had 8 teeth by the time he was six months, my youngest is progressing pretty much the same way! please give advice!

I waited until 1 year.
Doesn't matter if they're walking...it's the stomach & digestive issues.
Wondering how "organic yogurt" = not cows milk?
Yeah, Denise is right. It has nothing to do with milestones or how many teeth they have, some kids can be lactose intolerant or allergic and introducing it too early can trigger it.
Both of my boys really don't drink cow's milk. It's really not necessary like once thought for calcium. Cow milk is for cows not humans. Formula gives them the extra calories and nutrients needed for their first year when they are growing quickly. After that they really slow down with the growing spurts and don't require it anymore since their diet consists of more solid foods.
My first son didn't walk until he was 17 months old and didn't cut his first tooth until 10 months old. I was fine with it since I enjoyed having a baby around. lol
My 2nd was different and began things alot earlier than his brother. In the long run it really doesn't matter they all get there when it's time for them to get there :)

The biggest issue is that cows milk is designed to support the growth of COWS who have VERY different nutritional needs than humans. It really has little to do with allergies - many formulas are milk based and a kid with a strong milk allergy will react to formula too. However, most pediatricians recommend human milk until age 2 due to the nutrients needed for the rapid brain development in the first 2 years. Formula is the next best thing. Both of my children are under 2 and neither will have cows milk until their second birthdays. Formula is expensive and a pain in the rear, but kids are expensive and you have to budget and plan for these things so that your child can have the nutrition he NEEDS.
I started giving my son cows milk at 11 months if I remember right, but I didn't really have a good reason other then I was tired of paying so much for formula, he did fine. The reason for waiting until they are a year old is because starting them on milk too early can increase their chance of allergies I have heard and also it's hard for them to digest the cows milk protein and it doesn't have the nutrients that formula has. I have a 5 month old and definitely plan on waiting until she's a year old since she has a milk intolerance and has to drink soy formula. They say they usually grow out of these things but I won't know for sure until I try giving her milk. Just because your son is progressing fast, doesn't mean his stomach is ready for the milk yet! I would talk to his doctor to get more info.
I actually waited until 15/16 months before even introducing cow's milk in any form. But I had a preemie and was exclusively breast feeding and allergies run in my family. I myself have a severe milk allergy. It's all about the stomach and gut and how they mature. Some kids can handle it earlier and some not at all. Luckily my daughter had no problems with it and I'm very glad I waited.
The most important reason to wait until a year (which I did with both kids) is that if you start too early your children could get severely anemic. They get iron in their formula and don't in cow's milk. Please wait!
I waited with all 3 of my kids. My youngest can't have it at all as he is lactose intolerant. Still they don't drink much cows milk. I don't like the way its processed and they keep cows pretty drugged and hormoned up. That can't be good for anyone as I am sure it comes out in the milk. Don't care for soy either especially with little boys as it is proven to lower testosterone levels. Just food for thought.
I agree...physical milestone development has NOTHING whatsoever to do with how they process foods. Milk is not advised until after a year because of the problems it can cause. Milk, doesn't contain the nutrients that formula contains which rapidly growing babies need, can cause tiny tears in the lining of the stomach, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, allergic reactions, etc.
I waited until a year old. The amount of teeth and how early they walk has nothing to do with it. Formula or breatmilk has a lot more nutrition then cows milk and formula and bm need to be the main source of nutrition for the first year.
Edited if your other questions refer to your youngest I don't think I'd be in any hurry to give milk
My Mother snuck my breastfed daughter cows milk around 9 months and caused her to have a horrible upset stomach and severe diaper rash.
She never had cows milk again until after 2 years old.
Another species breastmilk is not necessary for human development - tho we've become accustomed to drinking dairy (I never got on that bandwagon, I think milk tastes horrible) but a great alternative to just milk is organic yogurts, cheeses and goat's milk/cheese. Much MUCH healthier.
Reaching milestones at an early age doesn't have anything to do with allergies.
I began mixing cow's milk with formula around 11 months and exclusive cow's milk by 12 months. This is what their Ped. recommended. Their kidneys are not able to process the protein in cow's milk until a certain age, so I've always heard it's better to wait!
my duaghter was actually completly off of formula at 11 months, we started giving her milk around 9 months i think. i dont think its a big deal if they can handle it and are eating other foods to get their vitamins and such
