For a 6 year old, DS lite. My almost 6 year old daughter got one for Christmas and it was a hit! Even my 2 year old caught onto it right away. It's a lot of fun! I find myself wanting to pick it up when the kids are in bed.
Hi All,
I think Im going to get my daughter a Nintendo DS next week for her 6th birthday. Shes saying she really wants it. I have heard there are a couple different kinds and dont know which one to get? Help!

The DS Lite is pretty basic, good for her age. But you might be better getting a DSi. This one has a camera and acn connect to the internet. Then there is DSi XL, larger DSi. My brother's stepson has one and loves it. It allows him to play multiplayer games with his sister and they can both view it. Whatever one you get, look into also getting the armor. It will protect it if it is dropped.
DSi XL.
It is bigger. It has a camera and a voice changing/recording application along with a lot of other preset games/functions that your child will love.
I 2nd the opinion to get the 'armor'...if your gonna spend that kind of $ on a toy you might as well try to protect it the best you can.
~I have 6 boys and we have gone through ALL the 'video games' handheld or console. My youngest son received the DSi XL for his b-day this year and him and ALL the other boys (teenagers) agree that the DSi XL is by far the best one yet....(well, there were 2 votes for the PSP still being superior) but only for the older kids...the DSi XL is 'IT' for the lil' kids!
My kids were so tired of me always borrowing their DS's that they got me my very own for my birthday. I LOVE IT!! Of course, I play boring games like Scrabble, BrainAge and Prof. Layton's Diabolical Box, but there are tons of fun games for a six year old.
I have a DSi XL and I do recommend it. It takes pretty good pictures and the larger screen really makes a difference. I recommend the armor as well for a six year old.
Hope this helps!
We bought the DS Lite for both our 5 and 7 yr olds, it has the double screen and it plays both DS games and the older games (which are cheaper). Hopefully this helps, they are both able to play it very well.
Tks T.
Get her a DSI. My 5yo son has a DS and my 8yo daughter has a DSI. If I had it to do over again I would have gotten him the dsi instead. Also - over the holiday's I played my first game on her DSI - wheel of fortune, I'm hooked - but I limit myself :-)
Right now many places, Game Stop, Best Buy, Target, Amazon, etc.. are selling the 25th Anniversary edition and it comes with a Mario game and two puzzle games. It is red and I believe it is 179.99. My Mom who is 70 just bought this one for herself - haha. I think it's hilarious that she is now playing. Oh, my Mom bought her self the DSI XL (it's just a little bigger and has a bigger stylus pen).
Best wishes!

The kids have a DS. Then I found some games that I like to play but the DS screen was too small for me. I bought myself a DSI XL which has the larger screen and I love it. I am with Karen on the Professor Layton games - they are awesome for adults (older kids too). I also play Suduko. The touch screen on the kids old DS doesn't work very well now so we all use the XL. The bigger screen makes all the difference in the world. Also, the camera features are fun to play with.
