Could My Daughter Be Allergic to Fruit?

I was wondering if what my daughter is experiencing is normal. She seems to have very loose stools after eating fruit. She LOVES fruit, it's good for her so I try to feed it to her often but I can't figure out why she has such dirty diapers for about a week after eating it. She has no stomach issues just the DIRTy diapers. I am about a month away from her 2 year well child check up so I will ask my doctor then but was wondering if anyone had any issues like this. We were doing great on potty training too until I had added a little more fruit to her diet

What can I do next?

Fruit creates loose stool, it's normal. My son has fruit every day and it he has loose stools, but if we also make sure he is having vegetables every day that helps his stools become solid.

It sounds like your daughter is pretty normal to me. Our four year old still does that with fruit juice. I'd check with your doctor, but it really does sound normal. Fresh fruit will probably be better than canned, at least it was for our ds. I remember at two a serving of canned peaches meant absolute blow outs for him. Just limit it and you should be fine.

Hi L.,
yes your daughter could be allergic to fruits, however if she is eating alot of fruit, drinking juice, and eating sweets thats alot of sugar content which can make her loose. I go through this with my daughter so I give her probiotics in her milk each day and it helps with the bad bacterial that seems to cause it.You will still have a few loose stools but not as many. I hope this helps and gl

Yes. I would cut back on the amount she eats. Also, do one fruit at a time to see if is all fruit or just certain fruits.

She certainly could be, but then again, most fruit works really well as a stool softener. (Bananas are one exception- they are binding). It doesn't seem too likely that she would be allergic to all fruit, but it bears asking your Dr. about. Meanwhile, adding more bananas to her diet could help slow things down a tad. Or just cut back some on how much you give her. I think at that age, I just gave my kids a maximum of 2 servings per day. Good luck!

my son responds the same way and i think he is very sensitive to the sugars in fruit and fruit juice. we have tried to steer clear of the fruit juice and keep the fresh fruit to a resonable amount.we just had him tested for food allergies and he is not allergic to fruit. i tink he just has a sensitivty to the fruit and fruit juice sugars. hope this helps, N.

I have a friend who's daughter is allergic to fruit--the citric acid in fruit. She gets a blistery rash on her bottom after going poop, and it is very painful. Your daughter may just be having trouble processing the amount of fiber in the fruit. If you are worried, ask at the well child check. But if she isn't uncomfortable or in pain, I would just cut down on the fruit and see what happens.
